I purchased a ‘used’ 2021 TLX with 18k miles, so basically new. The greatest part was that the dealership thought they had a base model and advertised it as such along with the price. Once the deal was made and papers were getting signed, they realized they were selling me the next level up Tech Package! In the USA, you are required to sell at the advertised price, so I actually got a Tech Pkg, black TLX for $4000 off! When does that EVER happen?! I was thrilled, the salesman got credit for the unit, but the manager wasn’t too happy 😂. Got it in black and until I bought this, I was a dedicated Accord guy. After I bought the TLX, I fell in love and then saw the new Accord models and was even happier with my purchase. Not a fan of the new Accords. ANYWAY, excellent video and agreed on all points. To actually answer your question Andrea, most of the competition doesn’t use double wishbone front suspension, the Alfa Giulia is one exception (Genesis, BMW etc. use Macpherson strut). Zach’s answer was something about the old Acura’s had double wishbone and they switched to rack and pinion steering which made no sense. What they switched to is the much more common Macpherson strut front suspension which is what the majority of cars on the road use all the way down to the cheapest economy cars. Rack and pinion steering has nothing to do with the front suspension design. The old and current Acura’s with double wishbone and the macpherson strut cars all use rack and pinion steering. Pretty much all cars on the road use this type of steering besides pick up trucks, Wranglers and some Mercedes.

I always heard rumors they didn't think it could handle the power, but no idea if it's true. Acura is very particular I've noticed.
@robertblack66304 жыл бұрын
I have 2020 ILX A Spec the biggest reason I bought it had the best DCT set up I drove since I couldn't find a premium manual compact that wasn't overpriced. Also the deal at just under 24k was a steal. I drove so many cars and it's the only one that can give you a luxury feel with softer shifts in drive and still give you manual solid shift feel when I want it in S. After having 2019 10th gen Si and being disappointed with the interior, I was looking for something with more premium feel. The ILX A Spec is fun to drive, looks, and feels better then the Si. Honestly looks like a miniature 2021 TLX from the outside seems they may have used it as test platform for the 2019 update. I also had 2018 Honda Accord 10 speed it's nice reliable trans but compared to the 8 speed DCT I don't know why they didn't use a DCT trans in the new TLX if it supposed to be sport sedan?
@alucarus64 жыл бұрын
@@robertblack6630 Allegedly, I heard that they didn't use the DCT even in the v6 tlx because they didn't think it could handle the power. I've been an Acura owner for a few years now and the longer you are around them the more you understand how secretive and particular they are with their choices. You can't find any proof anywhere online why they didn't utilize that dct. Which seems odd since honda designed it themselves and didn't use it in any other applications. But, to your point I can almost guarantee they didn't use it for two reasons in the new tlx: 1. It's cheaper to have the same parts for the base model and type s which gets the same tranny but beefed up. 2. The DCT has a natural jerkiness to it especially in lower speeds that some people don't like. I'm sure they wanted a more refined feel that more people across the board would like. Personally, I do love this dct and could have turned into a great tranny. If I ever add a supercharger to my car I'm really curious how much power it can actually take reliably.

It is true there no info on how much torque or hp this trans can take unlike the CVT junk trans that top out at 230 to 250 lbs of torque before failing.
@robertblack66304 жыл бұрын
@@alucarus6 also in my 2020 I don't notice any jerkiness. Though they screwed up on both ILX and TLX not adding a LSD. When I'm in my buddies car it shifts good when your on it but has always felt jumpy at lower speeds before the turbo upgrade. My opinion they fixed the issue probably was just programming. Because I can't say anything bad about mine and I was always a Manual guy. Now if I could always have trans like this I never go back, just wish they had the manual shift ability on the shifter rather then just paddles.

A tight radius is especially important when trying to quickly turn around on a busy city street grab that ever elusive parking space . I had a 2005 Acura TL that had a noticeably large turning radius that often drove me crazy. I was always under the impression that the big V6 in that car took up under hood space which limited how far the wheels would turn. I guess that wasn’t necessarily the issue at all given it still exists on this new model. Thanks for pointing it out.

Own one first. The buttons are so much better and faster. When you go back to a traditional gear selector you realize how much better the push buttons are. Good review guys, I think you politely hit on my sore points with this car. No pano, the A-Spec is oddly packaged and missing the hud/360 cam, doesn't even really get unique wheels because they are just painted. The transmission isn't that great, down shifts are slow, but anything is better than the ZF9 from the TLX and I had one for 4 years. But the interior is a mess for me. The shifter is a really odd thing to put in a performance car. It's something they put in their SUV's and minivans and is not only ugly, and odd to use, but jus takes up so much space in the dash where other things could be...like a lower closer screen that is touch and doesn't need that awful touch pad. Outside the car is good looking, tires suck, and the plastic radar cover is an eye sore. But, I'm at a loss to where the interior space has gone to. Why so small? This car is massive! its also 4000 lbs! This nonsense of hey, you want a bigger seat, buy an SUV. NO! Just NO NO NO NO NO!. Why would you even say that. A car person is going to buy a CAR. There is a reason why car people still buy CARS not awful SUV's that have become the new soccer mom minivan's of the world. So it would be nice if the back seat was a little bigger Acura. As for the power advantage over the rest of the class, that is negated by the again 4000 pounds! it's also not very good on gas. So getting rid of the V6 saved a whopping 1mpg, got rid of a nice smooth great sounding engine for a buzzy 4 cyl as the only option ( Type S will be limited and will NOT be a loaded car and missing tons of tech and features)
@sachemrock4 жыл бұрын
You make some good points Steve. I even prefer the naturally aspirated 4 cylinder from the previous generation TLX. That was a great package with the DCT 8 speed as confirmed by countless good reviews. Not as much power as the V6 but superior handling from the lighter 4 cylinder engine.

@@sachemrock Spot on! Def agree that the previous 2.4L in A-spec trim is the one to have - decent for what it really is and to keep the price down. I am an Acura/Honda fan. That being said, I test drove the 2021 ASpec & the looks both inside & out are stunning. If, however, I had the 2018 4cyl ASpec, I probably would have jumped all over the new one. I have the 2018 ASpec Elite V6 ShAwd. The old model V6 feels far superior to the new turbo 4. Numbers might say otherwise but the new car sounds & feels hollow or tinny. It feels like it is struggling and forcing the power! The Type S, I hope, will change that but because of that new 2021 TLX turbo 4cyl I bought the 2020 V6 ASpec Elite. Hate to say it but I also test drove a Stinger & was way more impressed by that. I am not a Kia fan. Although I have nothing bad to say about the Stinger or Telluride. Also have to consider that Stinger is around same price of the TLX. Stinger just seems geared more for performance than TLX.

That drive mode knob is a strange choice. Worse yet, my 2004 Honda Accord had a volume knob at almost that exact size and position. It was one of those little details that made me like the car more. Not a deal breaker. But really, Acura??? Glad, the TLX is a better car this time around.

Really nice looking car, but I still think I like the Stinger more (maybe test driving would change my mind)...I wish more companies did the hatch style back that Stinger has. Good to see Acura deliver a great sedan though.

TLX is a far better driving experience than the Stinger.

Design of stinger is shit. Looks gay. Trying to hard design.

I absolutely positively loved Acura in the 90's. But in giving up their performance roots, Acura is like the Prodigal Son. They left their roots, greedily wanting more, and only ended up wandering around in no man's land, in denial that their true identity and greatest success was back where they started. Even the new NSX is a braggarts attempt to show what they can do (a showroom queen attracting buyers who cannot afford it and don't have any other exciting options in the Acura lineup), while the C8 Corvette is a reality check on what they should have done. Go back to your roots Acura, and do it quickly cause the world is starting to view you as an "also ran" and nothing more.

I have a 2008 TSX. no problems. a great car. I only get 22 mpg. I wish this 2021 TLX got more than 22 mpg. These days you need to get more than that. also the 2021 popup screen is pretty ugly.

They should have kept the atmospheric 3,5 l V6 for the base model and then the V6 turbo for the type S.

Or other way around. 3.0 L base model 3.5 Turbo type S

Drove my friend’s out going standard model, the steering feel was underwhelming. Hopefully this generation have addressed it.

I can guarantee you that the Genesis G70 wasn’t on the radar when the 2G TLX was being developed.

This car is perfect in eye catching interior except one thing. Can they make the push-button start slightly bigger and locate it next to the push button shifter like the VW? I believe the button size will damage Andrea nice nails

Would you believe Consumer Reports gave it a score of 53 % ? Looked at one but too much money for what would be a second car stored for the winter...

I hate absolutely hate how the giant knob @3:50 is the Center of the dash and how this has carried through from the RDX. it’s super ugly and not a Center piece IMHO!

I love it in the rdx. whenever i am feeling rowdy i just flick the knob to the right and it makes the little chime. hehe

Personally, I would be more interested in this car if Acura introduced a cheaper 200hp/cloth seat version with a $2-4k savings. Hopefully, it would help them gain more market share from the Europeans. That said, it may cannibalize sales from the Accord so Acura maybe trying to avoid that. Still, having more Acuras on the road can help Acura build back it's brand recognition.

Newflash: A tunnel-mounted shifter isn't a 'traditional shifter'. Gear shifters used to be predominantly mounted on the steering column. Then they moved to the center tunnel. Now even Ferrari is using buttons, as are many other upscale automakers. Get over it.

Good improvement but the competition is tough, I'd still get the G70. It handles better and is more fun to drive with a FR layout.

Hello everyone! So i have some bad news for everyone that has a TLX, ILX and RDX. Not sure about the MDX but i am 100 percent sure almost all if not all of these models Re leaking from rear main seal! My new 19 ILX did and now my new 21 TLX does. Also had an RDX for a month it suffered from same problem this is not a coincidence. But... guess what heres the sad and toxic part. All of these cars had a slight smell coming through vents. Mostly when fan is on without AC. When motor is started and idling,etc.... get check asap. Look for small amounts of oil near fly wheel cover. And if youve been smelling oil fumes your not going crazy. The first vehicle this happened on was my new 19 ILX from the start,new. I had it upto 16,000km. Brought in for warranty rear main seal. They have to take tranny out to do. And change motor oil. Well... i got home the head mechanic didnt tighten motor oil drain plug! Oil all over lol. I do all of my own maintenence so this broke my heart,and if this wasnt bad enough. Then wife driving it home from work. Massive transmission failure she lost power when driving home from work. They put transmission in wrong. Traded it in for new 21 TLX. Exact same problem. :( pretty sad. What happens next we will see. This is real. Check it out everyone now. They are toxic fumes. Im sure you might find the same problem i have. Yoir welcome and please let me know what you find.
