Le Train des Pignes 2017

September brings our annual holiday to France and a pleasant Sunday excursion to visit and film the Train des Pignes up in the hills above Nice. In contrast to previous years when we have filmed in hot sunshine, the day we filmed in 2017, 10th. September, was cold and largely overcast. The train runs on the metre gauge Chemin de Fer de Provence line featuring 1923 built Mallet no.E211 which was owned by Portugeuse Railways. The train operates during the summer months between Puget - Theniers and Annot and the video sees the train at various locations on both the outward and return journeys. Not substantially different to my previous videos of the Train des Pignes due to the same loco having been used for several years and new locations are hard to come by but it is a record of the day and this year we managed to include some shots of the loco movements at Annot.
Thanks to the G.E.C.P. association who operate the steam trains over the line.

Thanks Bob, it's a leisurely day really as the train leaves Puget Theniers at 11 and arrives in Annot at 12, then there is a three hour break until the return, enough time for a pleasant lunch!

Thank you. It is well worth a visit. You may not know that it isn't just a preserved line but a working railway from Nice up to Digne les Bains in the mountains using modern railcars. The steam trains only operate over a small part of the line

Thanks Alan. There were quite a few autumn tints about both here and in other places we visited. I assume because of the long hot summer, the trees shed their leaves early to protect themselves

Très belle vidéo mais déçu de notre circuit de juillet 2017 qui a été un cauchemar ! Le convoi s'arrêtait tous les 5 kilomètres à cause d'un problème de chaudière de la loco et nous avons littéralement cuits au soleil dans les wagons si bien que nous avons préféré pour le retour rentrer avec la micheline de la ligne régulière avec la clim dans la rame... Sinon, la ballade est sympa (quand la loco avance) et le paysage est super, ça vaut le coup d’œil !
