Peru appeals to me too, in terms of South America.

Love that you traveled to different Spanish speaking countries. Good info about their differences. I'm a little skiddish about Columbia and Peru but might be open to visiting Peru. Your thoughts on Argentina?

Loved this conversation! We were originally thinking of retiring to Peru. My husband is an Afro-Peruvian from Callao, and over our almost 40-year marriage, I have been to Lima many, many times. We ultimately moved permanently to Mérida, México in March of this year though due to its relative safety, and its convenient proximity to both the US and Peru. Looking forward to visiting Lima again in Spring ‘25! You’re right about the food in Peru. One of the world’s best cuisines!

Great interview! I absolutely agree most Americans believe wherever we go people will speak English. I had that attitude when I first moved abroad, and this kept me from learning the local language. While many people do speak English, if you want to settle in a country long term, it's good to learn the local language. I'm learning Serbian after living in Belgrade for about 2.5 years, I wish I started earlier.
