I would remove the countertop and cut it back where it’s level with the rest of the countertop and then add a 3 drawer cabinet since there’s not many drawers in the kitchen and those drawers can hold whatever you want or you could add a wine fridge or a smaller fridge for soda/water/beer or whatever & it could be great for grand kids too for snacks to grab in go but if it were me I’d do the 3 drawer cabinet and level out the counter top so it’s all even but I’d definitely replace the countertop and get something more updated or redo them with a different color.

The little railing is a plate rail. You put decorative plates behind and it prevents them from slipping. They were big in the 60s and 70s I think.

Hi Addy! An amazing redo from the 70's to current date! I think the coffee infill counter desk piece was where the old fridge would have been and the new fridge was too wide. I am seeing this more in old kitchens where the new fridge widths are an issue. I'm not really loving the new fridge placement as it is right where everyone walks through the kitchen but that can wait for the day there's a big tear down and new floor plan. It's such a brighter and inviting space now!

I liked everything, except that you took say the spice rack above the stove. I'd have left that, but I'm an avid cook and love having my spices nearby. That would have been a prefect way to display pretty jars. But, I'm glad yall find a way to fix up the desk area.

Love what you did I want to paint mine and wanted to make sure I understood the process. So the first can of paint you said was sticky is that the first one you painted with then did second can. The picture looks nice there.I would have made it a little functional.maybe little shelf for coffee mugs and accessories for coffee.Black counters would be a great accent.Over the sink I would do a small pendent light that hangs down,also a hidden doorway to laundry room that looks like a bookshelf.And a garden window for your herbs at sink area.😊❤

I have that same kitchen! My stove & hood are where the desk area is & my DW is on the other side of the sink. LOOKS GREAT! Would love to know how to make the hidden hinges work...I think I have to add a block inside.

I love how your mom's kitchen came out. I have the exact kind of non-wood cabinets and painting them and not using that Valspar primer made my paint come off quickly especially around my cabinet hardware. I also have those railings up above that you removed. I may decide to do that too. Doing it under $100 is incredible. I'm always afraid of remodel or updating because of cost. You inspired me to do it without worry about money! Thank you!

FYI - since this is a mobile home, I found if you remove the strips that hide the wallboard seams and fill them with caulk or spackle, then paint the wall, it makes it look more like drywall than the wallboard.
