In this video I'm going to break down step by step how I painted and transformed this kitchen for my in-laws with a budget of only $500.
My goal is to show you what is possible with a little imagination, a small budget and a lot of hard work. You can to create a stunning, modern kitchen that updates the look, feel and style of your home and you don't have to spend thousands to do it.

Thanks Faith, yes the labor component was a lot and so if you had to pay someone it would be well over $500 but what I’m trying to show is you can do it on the cheap providing that you are willing to do a whole lot of work. I really do hope it helps them sell the house quickly 😀

Thanks so much Linda 😀 The primer I choose I couldn’t use in a spray gun so I had to brush and roll for the primer and then thought I should just continue using a brush and roller to show people they can definitely DIY it without needing any tools. 👍

Jade, I am impressed! I am not a fan of painted cabinets, and I would NEVER attempt to paint a countertop! HOWEVER, your goal was maintain a $500 budget and prep for resell. I can't believe the transformation! This is incredible! I wish there was a tight close in shot of the surface of the tiles and countertop just to prove that it really looks professional and not a weekend warrior DIY job. Again, stunning transformation and a homerun!

Due to the nature of using rollers and brushes its literally impossible to not have the texture finish vs smooth. But it's a lot better than the previous look! (This is why I haven't attempted to paint my outdated oak cabinets- I want a sprayed finish)

I totally agree the window casing needs to be painted white so it blends in because right now that totally outdated orange colored oak is just popping out at you drawing your attention away from the clean, bright, beautiful, neutral update. Since your in- laws are selling, maybe you can talk them into letting you paint it. It will make a huge difference! You did a beautiful job both painted and explaining the process as you went along. I was also impressed that you painted inside of cabinets because alot of people don't. I guess they figure nobody can see it so why bother but it does make a difference. Each time you go into your cabinets it's such a good feeling that they are as clean & bright as the outside.

This is such an inspiring video. I desperately need to do something to my kitchen. It’s so small I don’t even have a silverware drawer. I put a dresser in the middle of the floor to put silverware pots and pans in bc there’s such lack of storage for anything. My landlord said I could do anything I want to make it mine. Think of the landfill space you have not taken up by reusing the kitchen. I learnt so much from this. Nice job. A lot of tile stores have giant slabs of stone (quartz, marble, granite) called remnants. Remnants are way less expensive than what’s in the show room. The store will come out measure, cut and fit the stone to your kitchen needs. I’d probably update the kitchen in stages. I liked the honey colored cabinets.

It is always best to use delicate surface tape overlayed with painters tape to prep, already freshly painted, area to be caulked. This will give a crisp sharp edge. Excellent color palette and hardware choice. I am thinking, though, what about behind the stove. 😂 Overall nice result.

What a great transformation! Especially for a resale, most people like to get a house and make it their own so it sometimes seems like such a waste to fully redo a kitchen especially if the next person could come in and rip it right out. It's smart to freshen it up so people can see the potential and so that it's functional in those transition periods of moving in and/or remodeling.

I bought 2 mid century modern identical smallish dressers last year from completely different parts of Victoria and those had those exact handles on all of the drawers and they were so difficult to remove, as some had been screwed on and others had been glued on. Put gorgeous paintable wallpaper on the front of the drawers and painted them a gorgeous soft pale metallic Pearl white and they look beautiful. A tip I found for when you need to use a whole tube of something, like you did with the hardener for the primer, is to cut off the other end and pour it out that way. Saves squeezing it through the little 'nozzle' end. The kitchen looks fantastic! Great work.
