Casting for Avasarala and Amos in particular is absolutely spot on. (And two of my favorite characters.)
@er5is17 жыл бұрын
agreed, on Amos anyway. At first I was like no way, but ver quickly realised yes! But Crisjen, whilst well cast, is soooo disappointing because they haven't been able to give her her true personality due to it being a family show :(
@chillinkansai7 жыл бұрын
That's true. I am hoping they will eventually full netfix on it and cast caution to the wind :D Then the true Crisjen can shine :D

Apparently S2 will be unleashing the full brilliance of Avasarala.
@meermeeronthewall7 жыл бұрын
Really? She swears a lot for it to be a family show. And it's on cable so they don't really HAVE to restrict her personality.

"The Expanse" is my new benchmark for hard scifi :) i LOVE this show and i cant wait for season 2 :D
@aikighost7 жыл бұрын
StickyTank “hard” hmm. Not sure I’d class it as hard, lightly fantastical with a call to realism maybe :)
@lyrilljackson6 жыл бұрын
it's got traction, it's not hard scifi. most fans are probably nowhere close to grade school level of science knowledge, there's many engineers and some physicists, but not THAT many who has time for watching a tv show or then become a diehard fan. if you actually showel quantum physics equations at the general audience you would be asking to die
@xBINARYGODx5 жыл бұрын
Ah yes, when convenient, some people will point to softer things about the show to "prove" it's not hard (but then ignore all of the softness in many other "hard" sci fi properties).

love The Expanse, started reading the books during my commutes last year (currently on book 5) and got caught up on the show as soon as it went up Netflix, you guys did a fantastic job translating the books to screen.

I hope this gets suddenly popular and continues past its First Season ratings, or at least, I hope Amazon picks it up if it doesn't. This was also a fascinating glimpse into the creative filmmaking process. Glad Adam enjoys the series as well. :)

I'd rather sell you on the fact that you need to read the books. Once you get hooked on those, I imagine you'll come back to the series on your own.
@fondajames7 жыл бұрын
Kreiger San that's such an overused argument, they should be able to stand on their own quality not rely on the quality of its source. part of the reason to make a book or written story into a show or movie is to bring it to a broader audience. if the version that is meant to be more accessible isn't enjoyable to me then why would the highly detailed version be any better? this is obviously a generalized argument but simply saying that telling someone the book is better isn't gonna work
@aegresen7 жыл бұрын
It wasn't an argument towards the books being better than pointing out that the books are a good point to start from. Truthfully, if you need someone else to make up your mind whether you are to enjoy a product, then it's of no use to try really. If you already gave the show a try and didn't enjoy it, then you didn't. The show has received a good reception because it is a fine product.
@fondajames7 жыл бұрын
Kreiger San yeah that makes sense, just always hearing Adam raving about it and was hoping he'd give some perspective that would let me see it in a new way and then appreciate it but haven't had that yet

Is Adam freaking out for the new Blade Runner movie?
@DanKetchum0077 жыл бұрын
In the very first few minutes of the first episode, they said that the people living out at the asteroid belt were short on water. That's just stupid. In frozen form, there's more fresh water on Ceres alone than on the entire Earth. And I can't ignore a stupid premise, no matter how good the show is otherwise. So I stopped watching.
@STR33TSofJUST1C37 жыл бұрын
Perhaps you skipped the part where Ceres is completely exhausted of its water reserves.
@DanKetchum0077 жыл бұрын
Again, more fresh water than the entire Earth. Those resources couldn't possibly have been exhausted in a couple of hundred years. Look, I'm glad you like the show. More power to you. But I can't ignore shit like that.
@mro21127 жыл бұрын
You're right. Can't ignore the water thing.
@TranOfficial6 жыл бұрын
Mars strip mined all of Ceres' ice for its terraforming project. If that's where you're unable to suspend disbelief, then this isn't the show for you. Spinning Ceres up to an inhabitable 0.3g using Epstein drives would be a more legitimate gripe with the premise IMO. Even if there was plenty of fresh water left, there's no guarantee that Ceres' inhabitants would get unfettered access. Just look at third world countries with bountiful natural resources yet extreme poverty. Geopolitics, corruption, exploitation, and economics are all factors at play here. If anyone knows of other space-based sci-fi shows that respect realism as much as The Expanse, while also delivering on epic visuals and storytelling, I'd love to hear about them.

and we can’t ignore a stupid reason, so people took time to reply to your comment. give it a chance, fact-checking snob.
