4 жыл бұрын

Adam's latest weekend build is a piece of furniture for his home--an integrated front porch table to help organize all the shoes, outdoor gear, and pet paraphernalia that lives in Adam's home foyer. And it's going to be a surprise for his partner--so it's one of the more finished and polished builds Adam takes on during the lockdown!

Hey Adam, I'm not sure if you will actually get to read this but I just wanted to say thank you for taking the time out of your day to do these videos. My wife is an ER Nurse and there are many nights where I'm at home and she is tending to sick people. She has said that the ER is full to capacity with Covid19 patients and it's just been very busy. We have a very very safe ritual at home so no one catches anything. But I wanted to say thank you, there are many nights I get home from work and I look to see if there is a new Adam Savage one day build. It's something that I love watching because I too love working on things. Lately for me it's my guitars and I'm alway looking for reasons to either modify one or do an upgrade. I recently acquired a new digital caliper and luck would have it, guitar work can require the use of one so it's great. Anyway thanks for giving me something to look forward to when I get off work. I really appreciate it! For anyone interested this is how we ensure our safety since my wife has to treat covid patients. It goes without saying at work for her they are very strict when around the patients. When she comes home we have a back door that leads into a laundry room. She comes in there, everything goes in the wash. Then she hits the shower and puts clean things on. Even then we still practice distancing as much as we can. Even as much as I dont get to see my grandkids much and that is hard but I would rather miss them a little now than something worse. So anyway if anyone has a house with a backdoor that leads to a laundry room and bathroom this is a great system. There is a door that leads into the bathroom from the laundry room so it's really a perfect setup. Be safe everyone and we will all get through this.

I love the one day-ish builds Adam is pumping out these days. It's a silver lining for the cloud we're living under these days. I noticed the fun editing changes a few videos ago. I hope it sticks after these weird times are over and we go back to life as normal. -I love how the table saw sound was dampened for us when he put his headphones on and wow, I'd love to see his air-nailing remixed and put to music. The way the legs slot into the box part is genius, very Matthias Wandel of him. Also, It seems odd to refer to your wife as your 'partner.' I think in the past, Adam has always referred to her as his wife. Maybe it's more correct to say it that way?

Dear Adam and the Tested Team. G'Day from Australia. I have been a follower of Tested for many years now but with all the Covid Craziness I have found Adam's Q & A's wonderful to watch but more so your ODB's have been more and more inspiring to me. I think its because of the more "normal" builds and improvements to the shop Adam has been making that has finally sent me to my local hardware store and I have bought my first Table Saw and I already have plans in the future to improve its design (it was a cheap one and the fence and side platforms are RUBBISH). So thankyou Adam for keeping us entertained in these times but more so educating and inspiring me to give things a go and to build on my skills to be able to tackle more and more challenges. Ben P.S. I also personally loved your ODB episode on your office door as I years ago turned a built in cupboard in my man cave into a display cupboard for my Lego and build shelves and installed strip lighting to display it all but the holo doors keep my displayed items hidden but once seeing your video on how to install a "window" I now know how to proceed forward one day.

@jarrettc
@jarrettc 4 жыл бұрын
@@ColossalAmbitions good eye! If you look carefully at the finished item in place kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYSroKKVqc18aLs the wall behind the piece isn't flat. The baseboard (aka skirting board) extends perhaps 3/8" beyond the depth of the vertical battens. This is easiest to see just above the top of the metal pail. The overhang you noticed allows the top of the table to rest against those battens before the legs collide with the baseboard. Another interesting design note is that the angle used in shaping the tabletop matches the angle of the handrail seen just to the upper left of the table.

You can buy it in various places in the US, Bev Mo used to have it but I haven't been there to get it since they started stocking it at my local corner store. The downside? Its the US version. More sugar, less ginger bite. I thought I was misremembering, so I call my mate back home whose Dad worked at the plant (he's from Bundy) and he confirmed that they have a second bottling line for the overseas market which used a slightly different recipe. I was gutted initially, but I resigned myself to it still being better than most of the ginger sift drinks out here.

I was amused to hear Adam say at 33:35 that it looks like a genuine piece of furniture. It's like me saying after doing some diy project, "It almost looks like I knew what I was doing". It's nice to hear that as good as he is (and he's way better at this kind of stuff than me!), it still hasn't gone to his head.

Yeah, the usage of the finish nailer was a bit overkill. Not to mention the flat butt joints, glue and nails is not the sturdiest of methods. I would have gone for rabbeted or half lap joints.

Adam, I am so inspired by your tenacity to keep doing these builds, and keep Tested up and running through what has to be one of the most trying times for anyone to live in. The fact that you have figured out how to do this without the assistance of a the full crew you had before, and how you are not letting your talent and creativity just stifle is uplifting and I applaud your efforts and hope to keep seeing more of this. Thank you sir, for letting us witness your process.
