00:45 in our Hsing-I (Tang Shou Tao) we would just folder under that over-raised right elbow into Horse (Pao/Fire) Even easier here if you are shorter. Or another option is to twist his wrist that you already have, sink your weight backwards while hyper-extending his arm and attack that given elbow to dislocate.

Hsing Yi with Wing Chun sounds pretty deadly. I wonder if it's also possible to integrate White Eyebrow or Bajiquan as well.

White Eyebrow would be an easier integration than Bajiquan. Bajiquan frequently uses side power (side power end with you facing 90 degrees off your opponents center line) so you would need to be fairly selective in mixing it with a predominantly centerline facing art.

He has demonstrated integration of White-eyebrow in his Hakka/Dragon videos, White-eyebrow uses the same power generation as Southern Dragon and Southern Mantis,all are Hakka

@Adam Chan Tai Chi guy here watching with interest. You can barely find Tai Chi Chuan in my country, (It's present in four out of six cities and never in a rural area), let alone Hsing Yi. I just came to witness a style that, as far as I know, doesn't exist in Scotland. Wing Chun I have some familiarity with, but I was never an expert. Cool seeing what are rare styles in my homeland.

If there’s any chance of a one off course detailing standing post mechanics leading to sitting meditation physical structure, that would be wonderful.

I always thought Hsing Yi & Wing Chun complement each other. As a side note, why don't you just call your style Chan Chuan? I mean that's what it really is. One last edit lol. have Chris put a couple of phone books on his abdomen & demonstrate Beng Chuan with real power 😉

Amazing as always. I have stood almost every day for years but never had the insight/instruction/knowledge to sit as well. I know the alignments and feeling of post training, but my instructor hasn't ever mentioned sitting practice. Is it purely meditative or is there a structural component to it?

Both, depends on what you want to stress. One helps the other.

Sitting practice is absolutely structural in nature, just as much as standing. You want to be held up by your energy with minimal muscle engagement. It's something that has to be worked on constantly, through practice like Dao Yin/ Yoga and the like, otherwise as Adam mentioned, you can do some real damage to yourself with positions like Lotus, half Lotus, Burmese etc. I speak from experience. My advice is that most westerners should probably just sit in a chair (properly of course) unless you are serious. Although the benefits of cross legged sitting are myriad

As someone who practices Martial Arts using a wheelchair I was very excited to hear training from a seated position mentioned. Wing Chun is the best system that I have found for use with a wheelchair and it works extremely well with my wheelchair boxing too. Internal Martial Arts are very important when using a wheelchair and I find these videos to be incredibly valuable and inspiring for me. I would love to see some videos focusing on seated training and on moves, principles and techniques that are effective if you have to defend yourself while sitting. Everyone sits from time to time so everyone could be attacked while sitting. While it is different for those of us who can't stand or walk and have to do everything from a seated position this is something that could benefit everyone but is almost never talked about. I find this strange because not everyone can stand but everyone sits and that would be a time when you would be more vulnerable to attack.

Although I completely agree with you I don't think Adam was actually talking about training MA in a seated position. Wasn't he really talking about seated meditation?

no. "Hsing Yi" internal martial arts need to walk and stand when you fight. their practice is storing "kung fu" in the leg muscles through the "chi-centre", "Dang Tin" in Cantonese. you have to keep your "chi-centre" filled up with chi, and keep pumping blood to your legs, then all the power you use to fight is generated from the legs (the roots).

You are completely wrong and your attitude is closed minded and discriminatory. You should realize that there is more than one way to do things and those of us with disabilities are very good at adapting. My wheelchair is connected to the ground and I'm sitting in my wheelchair so I'm connected to the ground. It works because I can do it. I have proof and you don't. You shouldn't comment on something that you have no experience with. Martial Artists must be open minded and willing to accept that they don't know everything and must be willing to learn and accept new ideas. Dismissing something that you have never seen and have no experience with only limits your ability to learn and adapt. Ableism, forming an opinion about someone's ability based on a disability is a form of discrimination. Fortunately I don't need your permission or approval to continue enjoying and improving in my martial arts training and if you were smart enough to ask me questions about how I do it and how I make it work instead of just deciding that I can't do it you might have learned something instead of just looking like a closed minded fool. You lose out on a great chance to learn something new and I keep training despite people like you.

Hsing Yi 's concept is....ok, please open your mind first, don't be that closed minded, otherwise you don't accept new ideas. well, for instance, you don't have to experience "illnesses" in order to be a doctor, this is a very simple knowledge, common sense. now, Hsing Yi.... it's concept...the internal mechanism is the core of this Kung Fu. how it is working ? i simplify it to see if you can understand. imagine you have a balloon as a central air pump of the system, a hydraulic system, this balloon is called dan-tin in Cantonese, you just see it as a balloon will be fine, since this part is no clear definition. and this system runs with the 12-meridians of the Chinese medical theory. in this hydraulic system, when it works, the one who use this Kung Fu, firstly, use the dan-tin to press some blood out from the liver to the legs muscles, then keep the pressure of the whole hydraulic system at this point. then, keep it simple and short, when fight, the pressure ideally will be the same, but the blood of the legs will flow to the other part of the body, where is force and correct movement is cooperating, back and forth, and in and out the liver. the body keeps buckling and stretch, both legs keep buckling and stretch too. and of course in case when the pressure of the system dropped, the inhalation will continue to keep the balloon filled. both legs keep walking, buckling and stretch, the "Chi" starts from the "Roots", the "Roots" is not just something using the ground as the base, the "Roots" is also the pump of this internal mechanism Kung Fu, you must keep buckling and stretch, back and forth, to fight. if you are sitting on a wheel chair, the whole system is not working, or you must change it into another kind of Kung Fu, "External"one. if you use the upper part of your body only, yes, it is "External" Kung Fu. External mechanism Kung Fu use the dan-tim as well, but the Chi and Power are not from the roots. do you understand ? as the messege i wrote, i was trying to help. you must be very open minded to accept the opinion of the others, who explained very clearly to you. well, you can still argue, and trying to do this Kung Fu, but what's for ? by the way, you can still study this Kung Fu, then you will say thank you to me. PS, for instance, you can try the "drill fist first, to study how it gains the Chi from the roots, then you will understand. finally, i advise you to study "hydraulic system" and "pressure pump" too. good luck. i hope you enjoy the knowledge of Kung Fu, not just the physical training. most of all, be open minded, willing to learn, and respect the others especially who just ......"speaking to you"

@@GoldLinus of course you can use your dan tien if you are seated and generally to really build one you should be seated at first any way. Just because he's in a wheelchair doesn't mean he can't do internal martial arts. He may not be able to do what you can understand but what if he can do what you CAN'T understand, understand?

actually Aikido is useful if you used it for what it created, example in Melee combat, BJJ become almost useless 🙄
