XP-Pen Artist Pro 14 (Gen 2) Review

I have one of a similar build to this one, it's 15.5 inches version. Great pen display, honestly. Works like a charm. I've been scared to death of scratching the display, because my pen feels a bit flimsy, but the higher pressure sensitivity allows me to just lightly touch the screen and have a reliable result in line weight. It's super high quality for the price, I'd recommend it as an entry level pen display

Happy to see you showing XPPen some love. Their line has become my go-to recommendation. Sure, a Wacom will always have better specs BUT once upon a time the difference between them and the competition was *so big* that it was more than worth the price difference. These days, the quality gap has massively shortened but the price gap, not so much. I have an Artist Pro 24 which cost less than 1/3 of what an equivalent Wacom would. I’ve had it for 4y now and couldn’t be happier with it. Back in the “in office days” I had a Cintiq at work and felt 0 difference drawing on it at work and then at night on my Artist pro. The only thing was the color profile which I quickly adapted to

I know at least one person at XP Pen 🤦🏾‍♂when they saw their tablet resting on a competitors tablet stand, and it got worse when that stand got the recommendation over the 4 they offer, but the Parblo stand is actually the better one out of the available options from the two companies. XP Pen only offers that style on their larger products and it would be welcome on smaller sizes. It looks like they are dropping the 16-inch version of this product, but it still relies on the angled feet with no VESA mounting it seems. I'm personally holding out for the 22/24" version should that come along.

great review! i got the same one in 16' a couple months ago. the buttons are on the side instead of separate, but overall it's pretty much like you said. i really enjoyed it and fully recommend it :D

first of all a BIG THANK YOU to Link for allowing this video to be made. Great review Adam. as a hobbyist I have an XP-Pen tablet, the non-graphical tablet, because it fits my budget, I like the feel and responsiveness of the pen in Photoshop. it is light weight and well built. edit: after watching this review and checking price on this tablet I will purchase this in near future edit: you must have received an early pre-release one, I just order it, based on your review, but pre-order and it won't ship until mid-August but I did get an early bird 10% discount. as a cat dad, I too have the kitty glove. 🙂

Oh, look what I came home to: Another cat video from Adam concealed as a review. Really digging the pen case. Smart design solutions like this one make my inner Monk do a little happy dance. And the way it clicks 😩 gosh, have mercy! But let's be honest for a second... It's the glove that sells the tablet. Have a huion and the mini keydial. The driver of the keydial appears to be searching for my personal breaking point... Still hoping for an update.

I have the older version of this, a bit larger. It's pretty good, but this looks like it's even better. One of the things I like about it is I don't have the same software issues I had with wacom tablets, which were infuriating.

Really interesting review, the editing is also wonderful. One question that I always have regarding non-Wacom tablets - how does the initial activation of the pen compare to Wacom's Pro Pen? I used to test xp-pen tablets and had the impression that I had to put a bit more pressure for the stroke to apper despite same sensitivity level, but I wonder how the situation is with their newer models.

From what I know, it's quite similar to the pro pen 2. Pretty good. I also am very aware of the IAF, and from all the tablets I tried, the older grip pen, that I still use, from wacom, has the lowest IAF, starting at 1gram of force. I don't know why wacom has higher IAF on the latest models, but there's that. To make a comparison, older xp-pen's had around 10-14grams of IAF, and the new one has 2.8grams of IAF.

Really interested to know what you think of the XP Pen Magic Drawing Pad. Looked great on an add I just saw. Possible drawing tablet alternative until Apple hopefully make one. Don't know if iit has pen hovering.

HI Adam, I really appreciated this review and to see you finding it fairly positive was so encouraging. I am wondering if anyone has tried the Artist Pro 16 (Gen 2), I am thinking of purchasing it rather than the 14 that is reviewed here just to get the higher res on that model. It's 2560x1600 high resolution so not 4K but there are no 4K options in the new generation with the X3 chip. I am looking at this price bracket not a proper cintique because I also want to get an iPad pro in a few months time. I have chosen the iPad as I really want the benefits of not needing to be chained to my computer and desk. BUt I want a drawing tablet of reasonable quality for my desk set up. Really wondering what people think of the resolution on the Artist Pro 16 (Gen 2) model. Thanks

Feature rich as they are, unfortunately these Xp Pen and Huion Screen Tablets simply do not last. The failure rate compared to cintiq is atrocious. Lines in screen, ribbon cable fails, no screen, etc. And worse yet, it seems to happen after the warranty ends for most I've seen. Hopefully this changes, but until it does, I cannot recommend them. I know so many that went back to their cintiqs. ): The non-screen based line is fine though. For screens I recommend cintiq , ipad pro, or samsung Galaxy Tab S line. If you really feel you must buy a kamvas or artist, get a 4 year protection warranty!

I have 15.6 pro, it's not that good, even tho most of the reviews were positive. I have it for the last 4 years, and it's on it's last breath, a lot of cable problems, sometime it turn off and glich. Pen is kinda buggy with the tilt. and glass screen covered with scratches, screen protectors last for 2 months max. So yeah wouldn't recomend to deal with xp-pen

I am curious as to how do you compare a 2019 device to a 2023 device released about 2 months ago? (4 years for technology is massive) Do you have experience with multiple XP Pen Displays? Do they all have common issues? Do the laminated screens today scratch like the non-laminated screens (they don't mention full lamination on the tech specs on their site for the 15.6 Pro, so I assume it does not have it)? Genuine questions by the way as I am looking to buy a pen display and came across the XP Pen. I was originally looking at the Pro 16, but felt it was a bit large for my desk space, so decided to look into the Pro 14 (2nd Gen).

I have the Xp pen 13.3 Pro for the past 2 years or so and it's still fine. I do have a couple of scratches on the screen but they were mainly from my own doing (accidentally dropping my earphones on it, etc).

The quality control of XP-Pen is a joke, I have the Innovator and half of the time it doesn't display anything and then it will randomly flash seizure inducing white lights with skips of a fraction of a second, followed by image retention (which thankfully goes away after a bit), DO NOT BUY anything by XP-Pen, I have a Wacom, used it for 7 years and still works flawlessly, if money is an issue get a Huion or something else.

Not that bad actually - a simple lint brush takes care of it easily (I also brush my cats all the time)

if you use it for just drawing, i rather get a Tablet Samsung Galaxy Tab S S7 FE with S Pen SM-T733 12.4" 128GB 6GB RAM which i pay a bit more. I dont know if you are bias cause you are getting paid to advertise the product, also honestly having a laptop plus a drawing tablet it becomes less portable. I believe there are some laptops for a bit more money which are kinda 2 in 1, you pay a bit more, you get a drawing tablet, plus it can be used for blender or other 3d programs, or well do more general things you do on laptops, without having extra stuff, i feel like the more minimalistic way you go , less devices to plug into other devices the better. I do have an xp pen 22 inches 1 generation, i do trust in the product, i just dont like wasting money on things which might not be good for me. plus if you dont have a laptop this wont work, and i dont have a working laptop.

Some people, like me, just prefer using desktop programs and not mobile apps. I could get a Samsung S8 Ultra but would I use it as much as my drawing tablet? No. It would feel constricting

I’m curious on how you found the Canadian site for it, because when you go to search for it, there’s nothing, and it’s not even in the list of digital displays.
