As a note: Nate put together the Believe sign and painted the tear lines with gold to mimic kintsugi, the Japanese art form where broken pottery is mended with an adhesive that includes gold dust. The finished product does not hide how it was once broken, but shows how it is renewed and often becomes even more beautiful because it is mended.

PS: I love that Rebecca sold the shares to the fans. The bit where Bas, Paul and Jeremy referred to her as the mom they never clearly made an impression! And especially after that episode where she rebukes the other owners.

Didn't realize until a second watch, but Rupert's downfall isn't the loss of the club - Rebecca always pointed out that no one saw him for the monster he was, and finally everyone not only saw it, but called him on it ("Wanker!")

This show broke me but in a good way. Is that even a thing? What an incredible journey. They set up like 3 different spin off possibilities but I honestly don't know if I want to risk ruining perfection...

You heard Beard, perfection's boring. Unless it's something like spaghetti bolognese, or Grace Kelly's eyes. I'll be honest, I just want more, but Ted Lasso should definitely end here. A sequel series just called Richmond would be fine by me, and it'd mirror Trent's book at the end.

One of the other comments mentioned how the the "Believe" sign is now a mimic kintsugi, repaired using gold dust to show with beauty in something broken being made whole again...I think that works with people sometimes

This was SUCH a good episode. The Ted and Nate scene was what hit me the hardest. The perfect apology scene, conveying all the emotion without wasting any time or overdoing it. I also LOOOOOVED Sassy at the end of the game when Rupert is being chanted off the field. So good. Loved that they played Nate's false nine, and Jamie's Oscar-worthy performance "give me the ball"! And the callback to Kintsugi - the Japanese art of mending something with gold to make it stronger and more beautiful. Nate used gold to reconstruct the BELIEVE sign. MY HEART.

What a great conclusion to an incredible show. They wrapped everything up so much and still managed to keep it open to spinoffs. We saw the Ussie guy, team singing and dancing to Sound of Music, Dutch guy and his daughter, Jamie and Roy being best friends, Willis is Beards name, Colin kissing his bf, Ted back in KC, Jacob being an ass, the Believe sign, Roy in therapy, Keeley being independent and starting KBPR, Nate reuniting with the team, Coach Kent and hanging Phoebe's boob picture, Ted's dance, Roy joining the Diamond Dogs, Sam on the National team, Ted learning offsides, Richmond Women's team (a new potential spinoff), and Rupert being basically booed off the field of his favorite childhood team after losing everything. Just so good.

Ted Lasso was luminous and inspiring It reminded us of the bedrock of ethics, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. Not to be confused by this new dark rule, “do unto others before they do unto you “. Life is hard and the path forward is often obscured by our own clutter. Do away with all the unnecessary layers of drama and prejudice. Let in the light through the cracks of humor, kindness and love. If you find going through life is easy, you’re not doing it right. I wrote this before the final episode because, whatever happens then, nothing short of a plane crash will dim my love for this show. It’s not about the wins and losses , they’re now all better versions of themselves (except Rupert) and the best is yet to come. We will miss those characters but I won’t mind if the story telling stops here. We have the gift of imagination, let’s use it to make them live on in our hearts. RT Montréal PS Kudos to JS who clearly followed his gut in creating this show but we should also have a thought for the Apple exec who gave the green light.

Ted's time at AFC Richmond is done. In his mind, it was always temporary. First it was his attempt to save his marriage. When that didn't happen, he refocused on Henry and getting back to him. 12 year olds don't stay 12. Eventually Henry will begin his own journey. The good news is I don't think Ted will be alone. Dr Jake did little endear himself to Henry and Michelle, maybe even hurting his own cause. I was never crazy about his lapse in ethics. The new Ted (the one who told his mom to f* you) will be more engaged with Henry and her. It was an amazing 36 episodes filled with laughter, tears and warm hearts. If this is all we get, so be it. It has the virtue of being the right show when cynicism is at an all time high. Before we judge, remember, we don't know what's going on in the other guy's life.

Ah- thanks for spotting the wanker Rebecca dated at the beginning of the second season. I knew he had to be a callback, but I couldn't place him. He was the instigator for one of Roy's best moments in the series, IMO ("Don't you dare settle for fine"). Also, you were right about the "Cat" in the song 30:06 , altho it's not "Cat's in the Cradle", it's "Father and Son" by (now) Yusuf Islam, who used to be known as Cat Stevens. Bit of trivia- the song they close out on is Flaming Lips "Fight Test", which is so similar to "Father and Son" that Yusuf sued the band and now gets 75% of royalties for it, so he was paid twice for this epi! And like you, Roy's final moment in the show is the one that hit me the hardest.

I love that they didn't quite win - but they absolutely did in the John Wooden sense! I also wondered if some of the end montage is Ted dreaming while he's asleep on the plane. I don't know if Bex would have got the club in the divorce, because in Season 1 Rupert says in the pub that he has learned his lesson, so I think he had some kind of pre-nuptial agreement set up before marrying her. Hopefully she and her daughter are able to move forward with their own journey. I didn't get the feeling that she had the same interest in football whereas Rebecca grew up with it, her dad loved AFC Richmond as a supporter and so she knew and cared about football. What is wonderful is how Keeley and Sassy encourage her at the end showing her that 'she did that' - it began as revenge, but as owner she helped steer the club and the players to be the best version of themselves. She could have fired Ted as others would have done when things were going wrong but she trusted him, and she also could have sold the whole thing as the club had become worth more than it was when she got it because they were now near the top of the Premiership as opposed to hovering at the bottom, but instead just sold enough to give the fans a say in the club's future. I also like that the very nice if not a bit dithery guy that worked at Keeley's PR firm comes back to work for Keeley and Barbara! I love that Ted went home to be with his son - he did the right thing and I feel sure they'll go visit Richmond together. Maybe some Hollywood celebs (Paul Rudd?) will decide to buy/set up a soccer team in Kansas City and recruit Ted to be the coach... *Edit - just noticed during second watch the headline on The Sun in the airport where Rupert features on the cover, in the top corner it says Bex authors a book on placenta recipes & the secretary is going to Lust Conquers All tv show Jamie was in at start of season 2. I only saw the Rupert, Rebecca, Zava and Shandy covers the first time. They really did give every character an ending!

Just picked up on a callback I haven't seen elsewhere: when Ted is first getting to know the team in season 1, he mispronounces "Zoreaux" as "Zorro" - and Zoreaux corrects him. Such a beautiful finale, I love how they brought everyone back who had even minor roles in the seasons - my favourite bring the guy Rebecca used to date and how before they said he was basically a glory hunter so now he's supporting Richmond lol. Roy going to therapy was a great moment for sure, taking Higgins advice about letting others help. I do think we will see more, just a show about AFC Richmond with Roy learning to be a great manager alongside Nate and Beard and actually winning a trophy for the club has the making of something great imo.

I was going to riot if Roy wasn't the new manager. I'm glad the writers realized no other choice was credible or satisfying. There are a few things in the middle of the episode I question, but the last few important minutes were golden. We didn't get an answer to who Keeley picks, if anyone. I'm fine with that. We didn't find out if Dr. Douchebag the marriage councillor is out (although it's implied). I'm okay with that. We DID get answers on Rebecca's fate, and I'm actually very pleased we did. She's the character who we needed to know about. Ted was always going to be fine if he went home. Roy was always going to be fine, if he got that job. Nate seems happy at Assistant Coach. Rebecca accepting that the team really is hers, not just a cast off from Rupert, was the vital thing for us to know. And the family angle with the Dutch guy was just gravy.

Does anyone understand the meaning behind Ted not showing as much of a reaction in the finale ? I’m sure it’s with good reason but I can’t seem to understand. I thought he would be a lot more emotional 🥹😭

I think it was because throughout the season you could tell that he was conflicted on whether or not to leave, but by the finale he had made his choice and finally had peace of mind. Also, I think he realises that he is leaving the team in a better place then where he started.

loved the reaction! Mine was the same! Cried so much! LOL, One thing I won't forgive the show is Ted leaving without passing his biscuits recipe on to Rebecca :D She deserved it.

Alright, I’ll say it: there’s absolutely nothing in this finale that can’t be undone by the first ep of season 4. Just make it a time skip! Lasso’s son is fully into his rebellious phase and wants nothing to do with his father, and the team is back on a losing streak or something and needs him back. Or, better yet, the son goes to school abroad in Britain and Ted follows him. Boom. You get to keep all the emotional resolution of this season, and still get a fourth season. Point is: *GIVE US SEASON 4!!*

I'm glad I'm not the only one who told Jacob to shut up. As far as Rupert losing the club based on allegations, I don't know that would have happened prior to his interaction with the West Ham coach. The fact he's a prick isn't enough to get him canned, since it's still his money. I'm glad to see Keeley made Barbara a partner (KBPR). She knows she needs her to do the things she can't. How much were those shares going for since the Greek Chorus only bought one together? I wasn't a fan of how Rebecca just ran into the Dutchman because he's a pilot but the rules of rom-communism state that all primary cast members get a happy ending. I'm absolutely happy they didn't win the league, because it proved that the winning that all of them did was away from the field. Roy taking over is in line with how some teams promote from within. AFC Richmond Women is actually a Premier League requirement so that makes sense that Keeley would be behind getting that team up and running. I guess Higgins would be making more of the team decisions, or dealing with an expanded board. The only reason Rebecca couldn't go to the full German model is that it's harder to get money in when you have to go through committees for everything. Wrexham was a fan owned club until McElhanney and Reynolds took over. They were able to keep the team afloat before they arrived, but making the money they needed just to keep the stadium from falling apart was painful.

I think Nate's play was called the 'false nine'
@ChicagoDB

The scene wasn’t a callback to the “false-nine”. It was a callback to the practice in which Ted urged Jamie to really “sell” trying to get the ball passed to him…as a distraction/diversion…to open up gaps for the others on the wings. He was doing charades in terms of an Oscar…wanting Jamie to really exaggerate his calls for the ball…Jamie objected back then, to being “a decoy”. The first play that Nate had suggested to Ted.

The offside that Ted noticed is also probably because "Zorro" is so far off his line that he's not one of the last two defensive players. Great little nod to the actual rules and Ted understanding them.
