[Link in description] Unlike with most trumpets, the A8 valve block was actually designed for the human hand! Adams has leveraged modern manufacturing techniques to combine the offset second valve of the Olds Recording with the angled first and third valve of the Selmer Radial.
Update: this horn has sold but you can still order a similar configuration here: www.austincust...
Give us a call at 816-410-0826 or email info@austincustombrass.com if you would like help customizing you own Adams A8!
The A8 also includes a threaded integral mouthpiece system! The threads are quite fine so it does take a while to change mouthpieces, but the result is an incredibly centered slotting and evenness of pitch throughout the whole range of the horn. It's a zero-gap receiver setup. We actually make mouthpieces for the A8, so you can play this horn with any of our ACB designs (or we can scan a mouthpiece you like and build you a custom piece based on that).
Recently refinished at the Adams factory. A brand new gold brass bell has also been installed, and we also had the bracings between the bell and leadpipe revised for extra durability.
The brushed finish of this horn is combined with some beautiful polished accents. Such a great looking trumpet!
This horn has the beautiful richness you'd expect from a heavyweight trumpet, but it can also get surprisingly bright if you want!
The note targets on the A8 feel fairly large and very secure. A lot of that is due to the solid nickel twin-tube leadpipe and the finely threaded integral receiver. It's not just for looks!

Trent as usual you create a great video. One comment you made that made my antenna go up is when you said there was no mouthpiece gap. All of my 50 years of playing I tried to adjust the shank of the mouthpiece to find the right gap between the end of the mouthpiece and the beginning of the leadpipe. Do you think there should be no gap? What did you notice being different between a gap and no gap eg slotting, resistance and intonation? Thanks again John D

On my trumpets I personally prefer a .115 gap but on the a8 zero gapping makes total sense. The sleeved leadpipe and zero gap create a super solid response.

Gap is a super subjective issue of course but when you're dealing with the threaded integrated trumpet it also changes the spectrum in my opinion and what we've tried zero gap felt the best!

Just out of curiosity, do you notice any subtle difference in sound, between metal mouthpieces vs acrylic? What about 1 piece vs 2 piece (threaded) mouthpieces (like with exchangeable rims, vs a solid piece of the same rim/cup/material configuration?) Thanks!

There is a difference in feel, slotting, and projection for sure!

I currently play a wildthing trumpet. Which Adams model is most closely comparable to the wildthing & is there an improvement in projection, intonation, stability, etc...? I like my current instrument but I am curious to know if there are instruments out there that can make my playing any easier
