I bought the Tapo plugs. Used the Tapo app to put it in and while it worked great I can’t seem to get it in Home Kit. Can you walk me through how you got yours into home kit? Thanks

I’m looking for a way to schedule a plug to turn on and off randomly between two different times in order to simulate someone being in the home. I also need to be able to control it via android AND iOS devices. Which brand do you recommend?

Very nice vid! I currently have over 30 Kasa devices in my home. They are my go-to, hands down. They work with both Google and Alexa without incident.

@@ChrisCaledon Lights are my main usage. I also use one on my coffee maker that turns on with my Google "good morning" routine. No need for an expensive coffee maker with wifi. Something else to consider is getting smart bulbs instead of outlets. Get one and start tinkering. I love TP_Link Kasa outlets but have not tried their Tapo line. I assume they would work the same.

Recently swapped from the headache-inducing Meross mini plug to the Onvis thread plug. Setting them up was super simple, and I've been happy to not have to fidget with them after the initial setup; very stable and reliable so far. Glad to have less Meross in my life!

I bought 6 Onvis plugs while they were on sale during 4th of July and I'm experiencing those same reliability issues. I reset them multiple times and they still go offline with No Response in the home app. I might be switching to TP Link Tapo after watching this video so thanks for this great comparison!! I wanted most of my devices to be thread instead of wifi, but I don't want to fork out the money for Eve Energy. If wifi is reliable, then wifi it is!!!
@AdamsTechLife Жыл бұрын
Onvis has had reliability issues but I heard they recently released a new batch of matter smart plugs that are more reliable (found this out after this video). and tp link is excellent for the price. I'm surprised eve is more expensive and doesn't work nearly as well!

Nice video. I would agree with your assessment of Eve. I have their HomeKit smart plug and it’s slower than meross and TP link, it has a slight buzz to it when it’s on and is the most likely of them all to be unresponsive. Eve feels a bit overhyped in general for their price… I haven’t enjoyed their smart plug, I’ve sold all 6 Eve Aquas I had, their light strip isn’t great but got on prime day for $20, had to return the Eve Weather I purchased. I’m just not sold on them.
@AdamsTechLife Жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Yeah, I've tested a lot of eve devices and for the price, i expect them to work better than more affordable devices but that hasn't been the case for me. I'm surprised Meross and tp link work better than eve tbh. Thanks for watching! 😊

Hey Adam…So long term follow up…My Eve plugs are absolutely unusable…I have reset them several times and frankly the thread network is way overhyped…I regret spending the money on those….I’m mainly using Philips hue plugs and wanting to add TP link Tapo or Kasa or maybe even looking at aqara….Which has been most reliable for you? Thanks for all the great content 👋🏻…..
@AdamsTechLife Жыл бұрын
I'm sorry Eve hasn't worked well for you...though I'm not surprised. Literally everything by Eve (plug, camera, contact sensor and more) I've personally tested and reviewed has been hot garbage. For smart plugs I've used Meross (non matter version) for years now because I don't need energy monitoring and they work well. I'd recommend tp link tapo/kasa/aqara if you want energy monitoring. all have worked well for. philips hue works well too, a bit overpriced for me compared to meross that I found to work as well but to each their own. glad to hear you're enjoying the review videos!

Interesting. While not directly relevant for me (240V, different socket) I have found the non-matter, non-HomeKit version of the Tapo plugs to be quick and reliable when used in conjunction with HomeBridge. I'm looking forward to the Matter version hitting our market here.

I bought a 4-pack of the Matter Kasa plugs and have many issues with reliability and speed. All our homes are different, but at the same time I also bought an Eve Matter plug for comparison which has performed substantially better. Hoping the Kasa plugs improve over time as they are much cheaper.

I just want the energy consumption feature so it boils down to Kasa or Eve. I like that you don't need an account with Eve. I looked at the Kasa app and it may collect data (not linked to you, wink, wink) purchases, financial info, location, contact info, user content, identifiers, usage data and diagnostics. Seems a bit much. I wonder if there are any workarounds, vpn, etc?
@AdamsTechLife11 ай бұрын
Eve "collects" the least amount of data but tbh..its nearly impossible to avoid data collection from any company. even apple collects your personal data if you use their devices...like iphone ;) just keep that in mind

Nice review - very helpful! Q: in your opinion, if I was to make a power strip smart, would it be reasonable to plug the whole strip into a smart plug or would that be a bad idea?

I purchased the Meross, Tapo and Kasa Matter smart plugs but I am unable to get any of them to work with HomeKit. I get a variety of issues such as "This accessory is not responding" to "Unable to Add Accessory". This is my first time with Matter devices. My HomePod mini and router is in the same room and I have excellent coverage around my house. I have resetted the devices, rebooted my homepod and even updated my iphone. I'm not sure what else to try.

i'm not that surprised. matter devices are still buggy. i'd suggest a non matter equivalent version a those tend to work better, or keep resetting the device and maybe restart your network too

Maybe I’m stupid or just want the simple things in life. But when trying to find the Kasa smart plug to buy there is no information on the box or ad that it is using matter. It just says that it works with all 3 eco systems which leads me to believe that it is matter but as a nub makes me hesitant to am I purchased the wrong version?
@AdamsTechLife8 ай бұрын
look for the "matter"name in the title or logo on the box. if you don't see it, it doesn't support matter. tp link makes a version with and without matter support.

I was wondering if anyone had a problem with the TP link Tapo I have one and it works by turning it on manually from Apple home, but it will not work over Siri or any voice recognition. It tells me that product is not added to my home, no matter how many times I’ve reset it or reset the HomePods. It says the same thing over and over.
@AdamsTechLife8 ай бұрын
if it works in the home but not via siri, sounds like it's a name problem and siri thinks you're talking about something else. try changing the name of the plug in the home and see if siri can control it then.

It has been years of headache trying and failing to keep up with "automation" in a house that has 40 plus switches/dimmers/motion sensors/plugs/etc. Those GE enbrighten switches never last more than few years. I have a hubitat C4 and I cannot trigger a wifi smart switch on with a z-wave motion sensor, or vice versa. So, now if I upgrade to a C7 hubitat (matter supporting) and change out all wifi smart switches to "matter" compatible ones, everything can talk to everything peacefully without me being a programmer? Do I need to upgrade my wifi motion sensors to "matter" ones? It has not been worth my time and effort to keep up with this home automation task. Too much wiring inside each electrical boxes unless I use the kind of switches without needing the twist nuts... Motion sensors running out of battery somewhere every week....etc...
