Did you catch how the brass feature starting at 8:26 was on all trumpets and mellos - and the low brass switched to high brass horns for the feature?

Interesting fact about the high brass feature after the ethereal exhaust pipe feature... the entire hornline is playing on high brass instruments, including tubas. That was impressive on its own because to go from that low of a range to suddenly having to play an entirely different instrument opposite of what you usually play was astounding

One thing you might not know from the first clip is during the show after the metallic percussion feature all of the brass is on either trumpets or mellophones so the tubas and baritones had to learn trumpet or mellophone for that feature. Pretty amazing that they were able to put that together.
@joshratsch4304 жыл бұрын
Thanks for checking out Crown! I think this is one of the best all-around shows in terms of brass, percussion, guard, as well as visual. Really crazy to think that this show got 5th (one of the strongest years in DCI as of late). It also has my favorite moment ever starting at 8:28 when all of the hornline hops on either a trumpet or a mello and then just tears the roof down. Would totally recommend making it to a show in 2021! Crown in person is even better than Crown on video.

@@Treble_V2 They tune in Just temperament on Bb, which is perfect for these types of horns. Since they're super in tune on Bb harmonics, they sound louder when playing those chords. Definitely gets them Otts every year for a reason.

Arrangers have a thing. Listen to Bluecoats from the past 10 years. Since Metropolis, there's been musical development around a certain sound that came to a head in Tilt. Same with most of the world class corps. There's a set sound concept that comes through in every arrangement to highlight the features in their brass line they focus.

Honeslty, I still think they should've taken it. BD's brass was good, but Crown had the harder book and still managed to sound just as good as them. It doesn't really matter though. When hornlines are that good technically, it really comes down to who's tone you prefer.

Oh yeah forgot to mention one of the thing so as you watch the colorguard every single member is able to spin the primary military pieces of equipment. Which is the foundation of marching band programs it is the flag which represents the groups colors well in today’s performances it helps at the mood. The saber which represents the fence and honor. Which most of the time our blunt at predominantly either white or silver metal but that doesn’t mean custom-made have been made to fit the show. And the last one is rifle which is kind of in balance so we have to rebalance it in order for spin properly as we do with all of our equipment and less kill which is a recent ad on is dance and the ability to separate the top and lower half so were the one moving to done at the same time.

29:46 If you want to get a little more of an idea of how the battery's music fits in the whole show, you should take a look at LearnTheBeats or VicFirthMarching videos. They have videos of the drumline playing with the sheet music of what they are playing. Lots of these videos are taken from In the Lot performances or also include the pit(with sheet music for them sometimes, as well). Very occasionally they have full shows, or you essentially have enough footage to get an idea of the whole show, which is super cool!

Hi, Adam Tan! I know this that my question is horrifically unrelated to this video, but I wanted the best chance for you to see this. Recently my band director asked everyone in my front ensemble to work on a solo for school. Sadly the only marimba I have access to is a 4.0 octave marimba. My question for you (because I really wanted to work on one of your solos..) is whether or not any of your pieces could be played on a 4.0 octave so I know which one to purchase. I also want to say that your channel is a big reason I play marimba and I love the content! If you’re able to go out of your way to answer my question, that’d be lovely. But if not, that’s ok too. Thank you !
