So I'm about a week late with this one, but I've always wanted to compare the experiences of my fellow Australians over east (Brett and Eddy from TwoSet) to my own, as well as their perceptions of what being a percussionist is like to my own real life experience. Hope you enjoy this week's experimental new kind of video :) I think they're awesome content creators and we don't give them enough credit for bringing classical music to the forefront of mainstream audiences.

Got nothing but love for my fellow Australians Brett and Eddy... let me know down in the comments below if you follow both of us 😆 I've been watching them since they started out on just facebook and love that they are still making classical music more relevant to the general public every day. They also have great taste in memes 😬 Also thank you for helping me reach 1000+ streams a month on my album 'Hope'! You can listen to it on all of your favourite music platforms or at adamtanpercussion.com/hope 🎶 I'm also working on a new 4.3 octave 'funky' marimba solo with some speed runs at the moment, so look out for that soon! #TheStudioFamily

They actually forgot to portrait when we percussionists count a huge amount of rest bars and then we get lost. I remember doing this when starting at orchestra and had to count 119 rest bars, I started to pay attention to woodwinds, then I realized I stopped counting and didn't had a clue of where the orchestra was playing.

True. As a pianist, I couldn't ever imagine myself counting dozens of rest bars, especially with the rapid changes in rhythm and tempo. When I was once brought into the orchestra for a piece, not as a soloist, but as just one of the musicians, I was lost. My part had significant pauses, and I didn't know what to do. However, since the piece had a "clavier" arrangement for a single piano, I snuck it in, and put it next to my part. (this is where having a wide music stand comes in handy, folks!)

I once played an Opera where we pretty much only had one really big place to play, but of course some smaller percussion places. And there was literally no place for chairs, there was barely space for us to even play. So after a while, those of us who were playing the melodical percussion parts just started sitting like underneath the marimba & xylophone on the floor, whilst the snare player sat on the stairs that lead up to the side of the stage xD

I have no idea why he would come in for such a small class. Anyway, he tried to teach me to play the snare drum and lord have mery. i had no sense of rhythm or time. my left wrist would not listen..im like sorry not this instrument.
