What do you consider to be "high blood pressure"? What is considered to be "normal blood pressure"?
@alaskacpu10 ай бұрын
I do Keto (my way for years due to HBP) - low carbs 30 carbs or less along with OMAD (one meal a day) with Intermittent fasting, 5.9, 164Lbs and average BP 114/75 to 105/78. Anytime I eat over 50 carbs, my BP goes up to 125/81 or higher. I'm 67 years old, feeling great, Blood Test - Ketones around 2.0 to 3.0 and Glucose around 90 to 85 every day. I average around 1000 to 1400 Calories per day, and working myself slowly get to 160Lbs in a few months. Anything below 158Lbs makes me look like a skeleton. I feel my best between 160 & 164. I fast walk 3.5 miles 5 times a week, take a break 2 times a week. Posture & Small Weights training once a week. My vitamins are Non-Synthetic, with good foods making the bulk of good sources of vitamins. My Keto is a lifestyle, allowing me to keep my numbers in check. Might not work for everyone, but every year my doctor is amazed at my annual blood test results. No Ultra-Processed Foods and No Sugar. It sucks not to be able to eat breads, oats, pasta etc. But what I gain is far more than a single meal. It's living life to its fullest! God Bless. 💞

I was diagnosed with very high Blood Pressure years ago, Since going on a near Keto diet and upping my exercise regiment (Walking and some weight lifting) I was able by my Doctors permission, To reduce my Blood pressure medication. I hope to keep going, loose more weight and eventually get off all my BP Meds. I am 67 and glad I found about KETO

My 85 pound weight loss while living keto didn’t really lower my bp by much but I was diagnosed at the age of 18. My Dr suggested it had to do with anxiety issues because they can’t put finger on the real cause. BUT! I was able to reverse all the other issues such as pre-diabetes, high triglycerides and low HDL. My cardiovascular health is amazingly good for 54 years of age. I ran on the treadmill, clear echo and calcium score of 6. I’m somewhat sad that I must stay on meds but I’ll never leave the LCHF lifestyle. Thanks y’all.

Same here. If I stop obsessing about the BP, maybe I can ditch the meds. Was on 3, got rid of one at least.

I'm sort of dealing with the same issue. My keto diet hasn't reduced my BP even though I've been on keto for two months. I still hope there is a chance it will drop over time as I lose weight and I can stop using BP meds.

Same here, lost about 80 pounds in about a year but my blood pressure is not really moving down as I expected it to. Hopefully I will be able to drop my BP medication but it hasn’t been the case so far.

I had high blood pressure at 140/90 and I was eating like 300g of carbs a day without even realizing it. I didn't do Keto, but I went on a carb cycling diet eating an average of just short of 100g of carbs a day (Mon-Wed 50g, Th 100g, Fri-Sat 50g, Sunday 200-300g) and I've lost 25 pounds in the last month or month in a half, but my blood pressure is still 142/90. My doctor has put me on beta blockers today because of no change.

Excellent information. LCHF sorted my BP in a couple of months. I'd had 30 years of trying to keep it below 140/90 with vigorous exercise and what I thought was a healthy diet, ie HCLF. It is now rock steady at 115/65 morning, noon and night. Seems like the body is doing what it's meant to do and has found homeostasis. Prior to changing my life style through nutrition, I was advised to take BP lowering medication. Thankfully, I was saved from doing so by the likes of yourselves on KZbin,

I'm skeptical regarding the idea of sodium and high blood pressure. Mainstream magazines and articles tend to emphasize sodium as a "bad" influence, then magnesium and potassium as a "good" influence; however, it seems to me that the literature shows calcium as perhaps the most important mineral, and of course you have the relationship of calcium and parathyroid hormone, etc, so it makes theoretical sense as well. All of the minerals have a degree of influence over each other, and the loss of sodium can increase the loss of other salts. From personal experimentation, I tend to have "mysteriously" high blood pressure despite "all the right things." It will change quite significantly though from week to week. If I eat lots of dairy for an extended period period of time, my blood pressure seems to go down to low-normal; we are talking several grams of calcium per day in that case, and it does not make much sense that that amount is necessary for a person to maintain a healthy blood pressure. I must assume that there are other nutrients involved; it has been suggested that upon dropping carbs, potassium in disproportionately excreted, so there is one possibility. The last piece of personal evidence is that donating blood (I donate blood every two months) drops it, and it increases gradually up to the next donation; ferritin has correlations, but I am unaware of direct experimentation.

The doctor scared me into it by telling me if I didn’t take medication I would have a stroke and die. He never asked me about my lifestyle. He recommended DASH diet which is high carbs. I had already changed lifestyle and been keto for 3 years when put me on medication. A year later I’m still on bp medication. Still doing keto. I’m active too. Have high stress job. Emotionally I’m a bit high strung anyway. I do still have 25 pounds to lose. But it’s really not wanting to come off. I yo-yo dieted for about 20 years. Been overweight for 30 years. Go to the doctor every year. Help?

My BP is all over the map. I take 25mg of Losartan daily but my bp can be 145/75 one day, and the next day 128/72 the next. I measure it every morning at the same time and I've been on keto for over 2 months. Why the variability? I'm 56 and active so do I have hope to get off my meds one day?
@w.harrison72774 ай бұрын
Make sure the cuff doesn’t vary in height above your butt if you’re sitting when taking a reading. Moving your elbow up or down by two inches can cause this much variation.
@w.harrison72774 ай бұрын
Also, for 56 years old a good blood pressure is 140/90, so to my mind you don’t have a problem. Don’t let them rattle your cage, incentives abound for making you think you need medication and more blood pressure equipment.

I've had hypertension for at least 35 years. Been on drugs most of that time, with little relief. I even went to a hypertension clinic 25 years ago (when my cholesterol was 2.8 - non US stupid units - and I cycled 100 miles a week) but they found nothing) Then I discovered keto 18 months ago, and now carnivore for almost 12 of those. I'm pretty much zero carbs. Initially my BP went back to normal, but since getting off the meds it's back to 150/100 I'm at my wit's end to be honest...

I also had high BP, been keto for a year and now carnivore for 16 months. My BP normalized to around 125/85 a couple of months ago but now is up again to 135/90 and sometimes even more. Apparently it takes quite longer for some people and others can get it normalized really quickly! Keep pushing, you will eventually get back to normal, I know I will!

@@deboramathias3879 thanks for asking. I am now again at normal BP 120/80 max 125/85. Did not add anything to my diet if anything I narrowed it to make it more carnivore strict. All in all I think my insulin resistance is getting better and that is fixing my BP as well as many other issues (who knows how many). For the record: I am 54 started keto at 51, I dropped around 90 pounds in the first 18 months of keto/carnivore/fasting then stalled for 12 months and in the last 10 months I am now dropping again VERY VERY slowly and I still have at least 40 or 45 pounds to drop that I think will take many many years to drop at this pace if I ever drop them all. Hope this helps!

I'm very confused about measuring my blood pressure because it is always higher when I'm sitting down versus standing up. If it goes up snd down so drastically, which reading should I go by?

You should be sitting when taking your blood pressure.”Currently, the American Heart Association recommends that blood pressure readings be taken when you're sitting down.”
@jimspangenberg49763 жыл бұрын
@@AdaptYourLife My doctor also recommends that when seated, your elbow should be on a desk at your side so the cuff is level with your heart. In other words, not hanging at your side.
