After reading an update from the participant on a different episode, I can safely say that his food issues were likely wildly over exaggerated for dramatic effect. I’m sure he had a somewhat unhealthy diet and probably didn’t really eat veggies very often, and wanted to change that, but I highly doubt he ate nothing but cookies. That’s what the young woman from a different episode said. She actually ate a variety of different meats, veggies and fruits, but the show made her say that she only eats Diet Coke and white bread. She said they also edited it in a way that made it seem as though she was less successful in trying new foods than she actually was. Knowing all this has kinda ruined the show for me, and I kinda resent the producers for this. Especially because these people apparently get a lot of hate online and in the comments, and so do their families. I hate that they were put in this position for the sake of compelling entertainment.

It's just odd for a chef to be limited to one type of food. I know that eating-disordered people, such as anorexic patients, are often obsessed with how food tastes and they'll cook for family and friends. But due to the nature of a chef's job, I'd expect him to experiment with seasonings and cooking times and to rely on his own palate as much as the feedback of others. He has an eating disorder called ARFID. It's not like other eating disorders which are driven by a desire to improve one's physical image, it's thought to be a partly genetic disorder which develops from ages 0-4 and often stays with them for their life unless they get therapy to improve it. Those with this disorder have an irrational fear of most foods and can only eat certain foods which gives them comfort but cannot stand the taste or texture of other foods.
@gg4ever4142 жыл бұрын
The problem is when you have such a strict diet you also restrict the variety of gut bacteria in your stomach which makes it difficult to digest the foods you have not been eating. It is a real physical problem but can be fixed in most cases.

It’s like people forget that recipes exist. Yeah it’s important to taste what you’re cooking, but in a restaurant where the recipes are standardized, you can get away with not tasting the food pretty easily. I was sous chef at a restaurant for almost 5 years and early on in that time I was diagnosed with celiac disease. That meant I couldn’t taste some of the dishes I was preparing any more. My boss, the head chef, tasted for me or the manager would and would tell me what needed adjusting. We made it work great and had no complaints from customers.

Its scary how ez it is to fall into bad eating habits. Was a point in time i ate nothing but fastfood, id work long hours and just wanted something quick to eat after work. That turned into a everyday thing, i didnt gain much weight but felt tired, got headaches, would get out of breath quick doing simple things and had trouble sleeping. I said fuck it all one day and just quit eating fastfood and have never felt better

I think the reason he is actually a great chef is bcz of his tasting problem...He actually gets others to taste his food making his cooking very good as those that taste his food are different people and as a result can make an unbiased judgement. So this is terrible for his health but really good for his cooking skill as the criticism actually makes him a better cook

@Propfaqs Жыл бұрын
@@kullan6148 from my experience, food is used by parents as a ‘balm’ for all the harm, neglect, the ups and downs of life that lower a child’s mood. And the food makes things worse, increasing weight, dangerously fluctuating blood sugars that further depress mood, contributing to social isolation and bullying. Feeding your kid junk food is probably one of the worst things you can do to him/her.

I'm 23 and have adhd which is part of the autistic spectrum so I understand the struggle. When I was younger I only had fast food, sweets, biscuits, crisps and a few canned foods. Even now I struggle a lot with food coz many of them taste bitter or smell too strong. What I'd do is let him get used to a food by setting aside a time to get him to see certain foods in another light. This could be done through play, letting him make more positive associations by say squishing a grape or cutting up bits of banana for example. As he plays he may every so often put a bit in his mouth. Come to think about it I have just remembered something, ok you should totally watch Jo Frost's extreme parental guidance, there's an episode featuring a boy with glasses who only ate custard creams. That episode has a lot of helpful strategies that should definately help. My idea came from that very episode! Hope that helps!
