You two are such a blessing, I am a lot older than you, but I still learn things through what you say, we are all here to help each other as we learn new things, we can share as a child of GOD to everyone that wants a good change, me being older doesn’t make me wiser or smarter sometimes it takes people many years to get what it is they are suppose to learn, because we do get distracted as you said, but when we are ready to really listen as you said we will learn things that helps us so that we can help someone else, so in saying this, thank you for what you’re doing on this podcast keep trusting God and he’ll lead you the right way so that you can keep helping others. Thanks again for being a blessing.

Such a good conversation! I think it hits home for most of us. Key is intentionality on all points of life. Earlier this year, I retired from a very demanding career and you would think that I would have so much more free time but it’s so so so easy for screen time to fill too much time in our day. I’ve been striving to be diligent with my time to honor the Lord in all that I do! .... by the way, I’m listening to the podcast as I’m canning tomatoes which is a new skill that I’m learning in retirement. 😊 Be blessed in Jesus’ name! ❤

This is SOO SOO good! This whole episode is filled with such wisdom. Thank you for sharing in such a way that encourages us to self correct and does not put down. Even sharing your own areas of challange and growth in wisdom in this area. And yes, that statement " I'm much sweeter when I'm not on my screen... aren't we all lol" - YES and Yes . I've been there as a wife and a parent and as a friend and my husband and I saw the same in our teens and implemented boundries to find other ways to engage with the time we're given.

OMG reading a book or the paper is AS MUCH of a distraction than a screen. I grew up with a father who always had his nose in the paper, a book or the racing form, and he would ignore us. I can't believe you said reading a book is NOT a distraction, and that only screens are. Bizarre.

I can relate to Jeremy at 26:05. I have this moment that lives in my head. When my son was an infant, he hated the car seat and screamed the whole time. The first time I ever took him to the grocery store by myself, he screamed the entire time. I purchased like two items and rushed out of there. As I was looking around for the cart return, my baby was turning blue from how badly he was screaming. I left the cart and rushed back to my car. As I was sitting in my car, holding my baby, in tears, texting my husband about how overwhelmed and incompetent I felt because I couldnt comfort this new baby. A woman walked by my car and yelled at me about being too lazy to return my car but having time to be on my phone. I felt so helpless and crushed and so angry at that lady. I wanted to roll down my window and yell back. I wanted to defend myself. I wanted to tell her that I always return the cart and that I'm a good person!! Looking back, I realize, like Jinger said, I have looked at situations and judged. So I always think back on that moment and remind myself I dont know all the details. I also now offer to return other mom's cart whenever I can. 😆

I'm terrible w distractions. I recently did a 40 day fast from KZbin and it's incredible. I can hear God's voice w clarity when I'm not constantly being distracted. He is always wanting to speak to us but how much of our time do we actually give him to do that if we are constantly taking Satan's bait and living in distraction. I only made it through the first 6 min but I'll listen later. Love you both, thank you!!

Sometimes, I want to be distracted with comedy because I am alone 99% of the time and my mind can go to a bad place. I don't watch TV and I'm not on my phone all the time. I intentionally do my laundry at the laundromat for some social time. I pursue God and his son Jesus every day and throughout the day.

I'm 65 & luckily I don't have phone distractions. I'm of the generation I get my "stuff" done so at night I can sit & do whatever. TV, IG, YT etc. I listen to podcasts or vlogs while I'm doing dishes, cleaning the house, cooking dinner, changing sheets etc. Everything in life doesn't have to be black or white. It's kind of like go clean ur room so u can go outside & play. I love watching people at a Dr's office or a restaurant NOBODY is talking to each other. WTH? I can't stand it! This is definitely a younger generation problem.😅😂

I don’t carry a phone, or own one. That being said distraction can come from anything. But to be sure throwing in death and judgment along with everyday distraction is a very far REACH. Solomon said there is a time for everything. In the words of Keith Green he sings make my LIFE a prayer to you. It isn’t necessarily about setting aside a time to pray, but, being on the ready to pray when listening to that still small voice. John Piper isn’t exactly someone I espouse to listen to……

This is something I really needed to hear. I scroll thru my social media (YT/tt) when I get home from work to decompress and the next thing I know, hours have gone by and I haven't gotten anything done. I'm gonna share this with my husband so we can talk about it together and come up with a plan that works for us. Thank you! ps- I'm with Jinger.. once and done. I'm not into tv shows or movies. Once is more than enough for me. I even find music to be over-stimulating lately and gravitate towards calming nature sounds or instrumental music. Does that app give notifications/reminders too? My husband desperately needs it as he has the memory of a goldfish. Lol Blessings💛

I’m in my 60’s and in our home while our son was growing up, we had cable TV. My husband and I realized how much we were parenting only during the ads! So I cancelled our cable tv. It was us that had a tv problem, not our son. In hindsight we didn’t miss out on much. He doesn’t even own a TV now as it is unimportant to him. Not only are we all becoming addicted to our phones now, but it is what we are modeling to our kids and grandkids! Yikes! I may just have to be the grown up again and take all these time and attention wasting apps off of my phone. Addiction to distractions is sneaky, starts small, then consumes your desires. Sometimes I imaging Jesus sitting beside me while I’m doing “whatever” on my phone and wonder if he would be as captured by it as I am. That helps me stay in balance….kind of. I may still have to take all the apps off. Sneaky addictions!!!! Bless you both. You have a wonderful ministry.

I just started watching so I'm not sure if this is covered but I started distracting heavily in 2020. Not because of the pandemic but due to grandchildren alienation. Again not due to covid. I prayed for God to take me home. The agony felt unbearable. I almost immediately started Christian therapy which I am still in weekly. By the grace of God I have come along way. It's been the hardest 4 years and counting, no pun intended, of my life. I started to notice at least a year ago that I was running from silence. Aka wanting distraction. What would maybe have been an ok coping mechanism short term it has now become long term. It scares me that silence scares me. Writing it out like this sure seems like an addiction. Lord I need help. Btw im 63 live alone and disabled. Any tips welcome

@@greenbean8826I am not religious. But looking at it as objectively as possible, you can see it as showing the hardships of doing that and of being a single mom. Great show, great acting in my worldly opinion. If you want to be very strict about it, you would not watch anything except specifically religious shows because anything else this day and age will have extramarital relations, But many of these shows are 'regular', with many good parts, they are not all totally outrageous. So, if you only watch amd read religion related stuff, why even comment on others' opinions. People will like tons of shows and books that are more worldly and still be good people. And Gilmore girls was so great, again. Great lines, and the actors speaking them so fast and so well is awesome.

@@tarastreasure I try to imagine Jesus sitting next to me when I am watching a show or a movie or listening to music. If I don't think he would approve then I don't watch it or listen to it. I do not watch tv anymore. I only listen to K-love and I don't watch movies anymore. The movies, tv and music are there to brainwash the masses. I also don't listen to mainstream news either. It is there to brainwash us and cause division between everyone.

I think the idea of talking about distraction is great. It brings up many, many different thought processes. That being said, there is an abundance of excuses to carry a phone 24/7. I’m sure you have done sermons on being a slave to sin. Have you ever considered being a slave to that phone that’s in your pocket right now? You literally are wearing an invisible chain to it. I had a phone, it drove me crazy. I have an IPad. It stays inside my house. I’m not even thinking about notifications, deadlines, who called, game apps. A pastor, as your dad can attest to can do without a phone glued to his inside pocket, car caddy etc. I don’t even think you realize your absolute slavery to your device. There is a recent study done on twenty teens who had I hr of screen time a day for a month, or three???Their lives completely changed. They did it again whilst camping the absolute engagement in life was astounding. You’ve heard of fasts obviously, why not try a complete phone fast for three weeks. Only using emails for communication for work. Ginger has a phone she can communicate necessary emergencies. Maybe that lady with “baggage” was a message from God. How smug to assume she was the one with the issue.God does use the ordinary person to convey messages when we refuse to listen to him in our arrogance. She definitely got your attention.
