@@marmaduke0262 Caught sockeye in Idaho for decades when they were spawning and guided salmon in AK and lived right on the Kenai Riveer for about 30 years. Caught thousands from the ocean to near their spawning beds. All salmon that have turned colors are not bad to eat at all, but all bad salmon have turned colors. Not the same at all. Some ocean run salmon will turn red before they even come into the fresh water. It's a falsehood to say all sockey that are red are bad to eat. Not true!

I run most of my drift downstream of where I stand (60-80' avg drift but will run the whole line if the run is long enough) ,not a lift or "trout set" but upstream and low to the water, or else it'll pull out,often using the current to pull it into the corner of the jaw,rarely hook them elsewhere.I keep a 4'x4' loop of line downstream of the float so when I set it's a downstream pull.The loop downstream also lets you mend w/o affecting the drift.After the hookset keep the tip low and sweep toward the bank behind you till you come tight...30 years of doing it this way,I got it down.I've had all kinds of ppl tell me,"that won't work",till they see me do it.

Fish are facing upriver so it’s best to fish and work your way upriver. That way you come up behind them and you have a better chance of not spooking them. Usually you’ll only want to work your way downriver if you are swinging/skating flies. Just some helpful tips. 😊

Cool video, that Okuma looks like a great "foot in the door" setup for fly fishing as most setups are really intimidating from a price point. As someone who generally prefers fly fishing it's great way to fish when you don't have to cast very far and you have a good idea where the fish will be. Keep up the good work.

Great video! However, you jumped right over how far from the split shot is the egg, and how big of shot obviously. Also is bead size you use there for trout eggs, looks to me those are salmon so eggs are much larger? I want to fish where trout are spawning so I would assume that eggs are much smaller.

@disaksen72385 жыл бұрын
Decades ago, if you ever fished with an old Winona reel, you were fishing with a true center-pin reel. Big difference was that some Winona's came with a small leather piece you could use to control the drag, without burning the heck out of your thumb or busting your knuckles on a hard running fish. I still have the two I used for boucou years. Remove the drag from today's fly fishing reels and you have a center-pin reel. Casting methods are a bit different but the rod actions are very similar (single or two handed methods.
