I was very fortunate to be able to attend that exact performance of Giselle with Marianela Nunez back in 2021. I was blown away and was even more thrilled to find out it had been filmed! Interestingly, Marianela has said that she specifically requested to dance Myrtha as she felt she wanted to revisit the character (that, as a principal, she hadn't danced in over a decade). It was a great choice, not just because we get to see a breathtaking Myrtha. This cast had Yasmine Naghdi as Giselle, in her late twenties. So the contrast of Giselle, young, fresh, heartbroken, vs Myrtha, older, wiser, strong, was powerful to see as an audience member. It's not that older principals can't dance young or vice versa, but there was just something meta about the experienced principal "welcoming" the newer principal in Act 2 that meshed together with the Giselle narrative in a way that was emotionally stirring.

Jordan, Eden, you are both such *EXCELLENT* Educators of The Ballet! The work you're doing is *so* much more important than you could ever realize NOW, but 20 years down the line, you're going to be hearing from *generations* of people who would otherwise have never had an interest in dance who instead know LOTS and lots of things because of YOU TWO, and that will be INCREDIBLE! THANK YOU!!

The most spine tingling 15 seconds in ballet are the final moments in Act 2 of Giselle where Giselle slowly descends back to her grave in a foggy mist … not all productions end the act in this way, sometimes Giselle simply drifts off stage which is not as effective dramatically. The production featuring Diana Vishneva & Mathieu Ganio is a magnificent example of a magical grave ending. Please include it in your next episode of magical ballet moments ?

The puck moment was undoubtedly my favorite, addictive and comical. HAPPY NEW YEAR GIRLS, I hope this year brings us exceptionally beautiful things ❤️✨🌹. One of my all-time addictive moments is in the pas de deux of Giselle act II with alessandra ferri and mijail barysnhikov kzbin.info/www/bejne/joCkd6aLZ9CKhtksi=P3bT7i4TGb5ZpBB9 (actually the ENTIRE pas de deux is full of addictive moments xD) but my favorite of all is in this moment: 4:40 - 4:49. I hope you see it and react to it, I LOVE YOU GIRLS ❤️✨

I saw Cynthia Gregory many, many times in many roles at the height of her career and she was always thrilling to watch. Such an amazing ability to hold her balance beyond what was expected - and the audience holding its collective breath until she was done! Forty years later, I still remember her dancing the Black Swan and wiping the floor with Bujones during the grand pas and it went on from there (I was not a huge fan of his - sorry, Ballet Nerds - but he always came across as too mopey and not enough princely for my taste!)

Wowww you are so lucky to have been able to see her perform so much! ✨✨

@@balletreign It may seem obvious, but take the time to see as many of the dancers you love as often you can (even if you have to sit in the "cheap seats" - just bring opera glasses!) and it will bring you joy for years to come. I was lucky to be living in New York City for many years and got to see most of the great dancers of the mid to late Twentieth Century (I am sometimes amazed at the list of the greats I have seen, some of them when I was only five, six or seven!). My BFF and I made sure we would see everything NYCB and ABT did every year and as many more performances we could get to when other companies came into NYC.

Just to share some of my favorites: A true dead ghostly girl jumping (Osipova as Giselle): kzbin.info/www/bejne/eIDIoWyQms6LfZI and one of my favorite dancers of Dutch National Ballet ever: Sofiane Sylve, doing pirouettes in the coda of Nutcracker and Mouse King (end of the video, I watched this live. The amount of risk she took was breathtaking): kzbin.info/www/bejne/b6KpdJmapKl2sKs And for sheer joy , charisma and brilliant technique: Young Gyu Choi in Raymonda (especially the drops to the knees from 1.29) kzbin.info/www/bejne/gKbNq2aQbap3etU

Le Corsaire is one of my favorite ballets and I love Medora's fast variation. Iana Salenko has a wonderful musicality in her version of it. 0:20-0:41 kzbin.info/www/bejne/j4vdcmyGnN1jq7M The Queen of the Dryad's variation is another of my favorites.
