I really think it’s something fundamental about each comic. Garfield minus garfield works because the base comic is bursting at the seams with bad vibes. Jon and his semi-illusory cat with unknowable powers are stuck in an eternal groundhog day type situation, with garfield’s boredom turning into malice. Heathcliff is about an orange cat with strange powers that is not trapped or subtly torturing anyone, but making friends and living his best life.

This is a good prompt! I can't help but imagine what I would've done: Nathan's: Caption would read "I think it's normal to be emotional in this situation." The Meat zeppelin would be headed towards the south tower. Jacob's: Zoom in on Heathcliff, his face inscrutable. The caption reads, "Do it, I fucking dare you." Karina's: The two old guys would be sloppily making out. The caption would be "We must adapt or die."

this suggestion has been floating around in drawfee's comment sections for years at this point and there's an easy reason it shouldn't happen: what does a nonbinary person look like? many nonbinary people look like normative women and men, because it's a wide spectrum. some non-binary people look hypermasc, or hyperfem. so I don't really understand how this could work as a visual theme unless you go for stereotypes,,, which, as a nonbinary person, I beg they don't.

The perspective on the MEAT blimp comic goes in a nearly complete circle. The blimp is presumably flying out towards the city almost directly away from us, Heathcliff is facing away from us at an angle not quite towards the city. The blimp is drawn fully sideways. And then the people who appear to be looking at the blimp are just a little off angle of facing towards us. Nathan's idea is funnier, but the illusion is neat. I'm Merobiba!
