Adding AUX to Toyota Yaris 2007 - W58824 radio

Adding an Auxiliary Input to Toyota Yaris (2007) with the W58824 radio by injecting digital audio into the CD player input.
You need an Analog to Digital (SPDIF) audio converter in order for this to work.

Have tried this but not working. No sound going through. :-( UPDATE 2 days later. Yeah Boiiiii. It works. This is where i went wrong. I had an audio converter at home so didn't need to buy one. Fitted as per video but wasn't working. After a sleepless night in thought that i had to convert analogue into the car stereo converting to digital. Next day, checked my converter & found it was Digital to Analogue & NOT what was used in the instructions. Simply ordered an Analogue to Digital converter, easy swap over & hot glue into place & BOOM.....it works. Very happy!! Thanks for the video instructions. ;-)

I'd love to see how to make cds still play! Edit: I figured I could just cut the trace on the PCB and connect the digital audio trace to a two way button to switch between the converter and CD player, did it tonight and seems to work just fine. Just a question: I see pin 7 is labelled CDon, perhaps shorting this to either ground or 5v would enable the input without necessarily having a CD in the player? Just wild speculation and I did not want to try ir out of fear of frying something.

took me 3 attempts to get it right and it works superbly. Attempt 1 I got a DAC instead of a ADC, attempt 2, I slightly bridged terminal 3&4 together which shorts the radio and attempt 3 works fine.

How's the audio quality through the aux ? does all the sound settings work on it?

@@ravjayakodi2746 Everything works fine and the sound it great, just make sure you insert a non readable disk or a disk upside down in the CD player so it activates the CD play and allows you to use is as a audio source. I also did mine a little different, I glued the ADC on the inside of the dashboard on next to the center console with the power cable & coaxial RCA cable hanging out of the head unit (because my head unit didn't seem to have enough space for the ADC with cables). There is also a little square cutout next to the 12V port in these yaris which is where I had my 3.5mm jack hanging from.

What exactly happenedwhen you bridged 3 and 4 together? Because In my case only the left speakers are working for sound, right ones dont work completely. Do you know whats wrong maybe ? thx

@@niik8211 When I bridge contact 3&4 together, it shorted the 5v to Ground causing the head unit to do nothing. Im not sure why only the left speakers are sounding for you since the mod seems to be a mono wiring. I would double check the soldered connection to make sure u haven't bridged solder where it shouldn't be. If ur only getting the left speakers sound on all inputs whether its, radio, CD, aux, have u checked the balance settings, have u checked the speakers, speaker wires and the wire terminations for the speakers, if they are all fine than it could be that your head unit is dying which happens when they get old.

Great tutorial! I wanted to add bluetooth to my Yaris radio so I bought a bluetooth board with a SPDIF coax digital output. After a lot of diagnostics, (the first suspect of course being my soldering), it seems like the board is defective, so I did the same thing as in the video and used an analog to digital convertor and hooked it up to a bluetooth board with audio out. Works perfectly!

i "just" dumped the radio and put a amp next to the AC, works the same, less soldering and work tbh - maybe some years in the future i will finalize my own headunit, but as they say "makeshifts hold the longest" more than a year so far

Nice video, thanks for taking your time to explain this process and to film it. Do you know if its possible to replace the factory OEM radio for an aftermarket 1 din/ 2 din radio?. After some search, I found out that this radio is actually bigger than any other aftermarket radio so any replacement would like a gap between the plastic housing and the radio. I would appreciate very much your help and opinion on this matter. Cheers ;)

You could use an adapter frame for a 2 din aftermarket radio. I think the problem lies with the converter itself or the RCA cable. You can test if your radio does work with two sides when playing a CD. If so, you can plug in the RCA cables into a different radio with aux input and test if the RCA cable and your phone/mp3 player functions correctly. If everything works, then the converter is the problem.

ShakespeareCafe Auxilarie input is NOT available for this radio model. Not native and not via the CD changer port. The error is intended and caused by to the flipped CD. This way the CD input of the radio is activated but no sound is played from the CD itself.

Why do you need the analogue to digital converter? In this video (kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKGQpWqZocSNidU) he just solders directly to the PCB. Is it cause in that video he solders to the radio's PCB, which is analogue? And in this video you solder to the CD player, which is then digital? If that's the case, why would you not solder to the radio instead here?

Good question. My radio doesn’t have an analog part. Perhaps because of the CD player. I did check the datasheet of the controller for if there was something similar available, for examplr for an auxiliary input, but there where none. In the case of the video you sent me, it might have been easier for him to solder at that spot.

Not in this particular way. You could if you make a switch between the SPDIF (pin 1) and converter or a switch between the 5V power and the converter. Personally I only listen to songs via my phone, so I don't need the CD player.
