Adding factory trailer brakes to 2014 Ram (4th Gen) Installing and programming with Alfaobd

Just trying to show people my experience with adding this factory feature.

Went to my dealer for my 2021 Laramie they wanted to charge me 169.00 plus tax to flash the brake controller on, a total rip-off, so I got the OBD Max Plus like you. The only thing is I had to buy online for 25.00 dollars for the bypass for the PCM computer to access it with the OBD MAX PLUS, doing it tomorrow. Good video helps other Ram truck owners and saves money for them.

This video was very helpful, but it would have been even more helpful if you could have shown all the detailed steps! I know it's hard with just one hand and no one to hold the camera or a Go Pro or something. We looked up another tutorial that helped us with the difficult detailed parts. This tutorial was great for the walkthrough of how to program it, though. Thanks very much.

update......just got mx+ in from amazon, plugged it into truck, followed your directions, trailer brakes are now enabled.....thank you!!!

What are the 4 wires for in the bottom plug for the module? Red is hot, but what are the other 3?

I believe they are 12v power, brake light trigger, ground, and the brake wire.....that goes to your 7 pin. I'm pretty sure because that's the only plug to use with aftermarket brake controllers.

@@russvz6911 I’m pretty sure there’s something wrong with my existing wiring. It says “light electric” with the camper plugged in and “heavy electric” when towing nothing. There is no power going through to the trailer brakes. I do have brake lights and turn signals, just no power in the trailer brake pin on the receptacle on the back of the truck.

Thanks so much for the information. However, you forgot to put the link to the description! We couldn't find the module for that cheap anywhere. We got a pretty decent deal on Ebay, but not $60 good. The video was very helpful, really appreciate it.

what are the buttons that have arrow up and arrow down - how did you add that?

That would be rams 4 corner air suspension. I did not add that it was factory. Some trucks had it but most did not.

Barrett - thank you for posting this video. We just picked up a 2014 RAM Tradesman 2500 Crew Cab 4x4 w/18,000 miles on it. I will need to install this module in our (new to us) 2500. I am also trying to find videos on the module for cell phone (hands free) as well. This isn't the upper end like others but we are going to get many, many years of good service out of it. I am excited to replace our 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 Crew Cab 4x4... it has been a great vehicle for us.

This is actually easy to do it after pluging in the module I put the button in and took a matter of mins to program it to the truck. This is not a long install very easy.

I definitely want to do this and also the remote start on our new to us 2014 RAM Tradesman we just picked up. What manufacturer to you purchase this unit from? I am looking into the remote start and there seem to be a few manufacturers out there - or - should I just go OEM Mopar? Not sure of the amount of cost involved.

I didn't add a link because there were a dozen sellers on ebay with them that's why I only said I got it from ebay all of them had good ratings I just don't want to promote a specific seller on something that's widespread as this.
