Thank you Nancy I just got the GE ultra vent 850 and I'm loving it. Thanks for showing me how to remove the tray. I had some fabric softener left over after the wash. Now I know what to do if I run into that problem again.

Thank you for your comment! Does vinegar work when you’re out of detergent? I mean, if friction and water clean… it could work.

I've also realized please be careful when you're using powder because if you remove the tray the powder gets jammed and all clogged up so be careful with that I would recommend just dumping the powder in with your clothing and washing it like that like a top load washer I would not use the tray because it will clog up and jam your washer overtime I have been putting powder just in with my clothing like a top load washer and it works great I do not use the tray because it gets clogged up if you were using powder

think you hit on it at the end of your video. A "thin" fluid is more likely to go right through. Practically every front loading washing machine I've ever used in the past 20 years has that type of dispenser. I think its called a greedy cup siphon. My old Maytag top loader had a similar set up for the fabric softener qnd bleach. If i overfilled it would go right through (as designed) but if i poured the bleach out too quickly it would also syphon right out into the prewash. In the end i got a thicker non splash bleach because im lazy and decided i couldn't be arsed with pouring slower.
@fixthishouse3303
@fixthishouse3303 2 жыл бұрын
Good idea getting non-splash bleach. Thinner liquid detergent can usually be thickened by adding (table) salt. I’m not sure it’s worth the effort for laundry. (I have thickened dish detergent though.) Thanks for your comments!

Help! I just bought a GE 650 series last week. I am noticing residual water standing in my bleach compartment only. My softener and laundry soap area of the dispenser has a little bit of water after a wash, but my bleach is almost filled to the max. What I have been doing is after washing at the end of the day it’s got a cup of water and pouring it in quickly and it causes a siphon to drain that water. Is there something that I need to do to help it drain after washing so it empties out more like the softener side? ❤ your videos. Thanks for making them.

Love ur videos!! Thank you Nancy! I have the same washer and have been spending so much money on different detergents, specifically tide and persil trying to perfect the ability to have amazing smelling laundry. Do you think you could make a video on the settings you find best to use on the washer and dryer to achieve this? I say dryer because I know if you scorch your clothes it will make the detergent scent a lot less noticeable. Thank you!!!

Hi, thanks for the note! I love the smell Tide leaves on clothing (our friends’ clothing… I can’t justify the expense.) We use low-end detergent and add bleach or OxiClean when needed. My favorite fabric softener for good smelling laundry is Suavitel in a blue bottle. I’m currently using a Suavitel “Complete” Field Flowers variety with “easier stain removal.” We’re running a soap business from our home, so the laundry area already smells highly perfumed so I doubt I can be of much further help :) Thanks for the interesting question!

Have you tried those "scent beads" in your wash with an unscented dryer sheets? They work pretty well at making the clothes hold that detergent / fabric softener scent

I have used those beads in the past when they were on sale/super inexpensive . They did work really well, though I haven’t tried them in this machine.

@@fixthishouse3303 I’ve got a question that flap thing for the powder, aren’t you supposed to lift it up so the detergent can go into the machine? I see you didn’t lift it in the video

Yes, you should lift that flap for powders. I probably just forgot/didn’t realize it was down. Thanks for pointing that out!

Does your washer squeak in the beginning of the wash cycle when it’s using smart dispense? You have the regular water fill sounds. Then is spurts it adds detergent “smartly” everytime it squeals on me. Also the water softener reservoir j have found to still have most of lot all (watered down) softener still in the reservoir. Any thoughts on that part too? Thanks!
@fixthishouse3303
@fixthishouse3303 2 жыл бұрын
No, ours doesn’t squeal when the smart dispenser is working. Your fabric softener should be completely gone by the end of the cycle.

I’d follow the directions on your detergent container. (Maybe use a little less.) There are too many variables (brand, concentration, etc.)

Hi, my dispenser drawer is really hard to pull out and push in and the fabric softener area immediately runs out on the clothes. Any ideas?
@fixthishouse3303
@fixthishouse3303 Жыл бұрын
Is it lined up right? Email GE customer service if your machine is under warranty and/or the tray looks broken. For the fabric softener, it shouldn’t dispense immediately unless you overfill it or the machine isn’t level. I guess the SmartDispenser could be cracked.

Very helpful information. I have the same washer and dryer and have been facing a problem with the softner section. I do not use softner but after every load I find the softener section filled with water. Do you have any idea what might be the problem that the water keeps fiiling up and doesn't get emptied from the softener section. Thanks.
@fixthishouse3303
@fixthishouse3303 11 ай бұрын
The softener section is flooded with water each time the washer runs. My softener section empties, but my bleach section is normally full of water. I suspect it has to do with how level the machine is. I shake the drawer in and out to make the water drain. Not the best answer, but maybe someone else can help?
@31dinie
@31dinie 11 ай бұрын
Thanks for your reply. I watched another video on how this would lead to odors if the water is left in the softener section. Today I didn't fill the smart dispenser and I used the manual method of adding detergent by following the steps in your video. This would help me in emptying the collected water after every load. Just a temporary fix!

My sister has another washer brand (LG?) without the SmartDispenser and she removes the whole dispenser tray between uses… just puts it in her utility sink. You’d have to stop using the SmartDispenser if you decide to do that.

if each time I run laundry and find my fabric softener still there, what would you recommend?
@fixthishouse3303
@fixthishouse3303 10 ай бұрын
Wow. I’d remove the SmartDispenser tray and look at the water hole above the fabric softener dispenser. Maybe it’s clogged. You could also start a load with the tray out and see if water floods above the fabric softener compartment. Confirm that you are using a clothes washing cycle vs the Self Clean cycle.

When I add bleach to the bleach section...it does the same thing. Is it supposed do that in the bleach part also?
@fixthishouse3303

Only fill it to the max line. The bleach will overflow into the compartment that leads to the washer’s drum.

I got mine a few months ago and am noticing the exact same thing! The dtergent, bleach and fabric softner are all draining out! You can see them floating down the glass door before I start a load. I actually paused mine tonight, added fabric softner (literally LESS than a table spoon) shut the drawer and seconds later, fabric softner streaming down the inside of the glass door until it was empty. It doesnt make sense that all of the products are being used in the first cycle. I'm going to do some more research tonight and possibly call GE in the morning. Have you found a solution?

@fixthishouse3303

Mine always has leftover water in it. If I want to add bleach I need to shake/slide it back and forth to get the water out before adding bleach.

Does your machine fill up with enough water to wash clothes
@fixthishouse3303
@fixthishouse3303 Жыл бұрын
You don’t actually see excess water in the machine. I believe the concept is that friction cleans. I actually learned this about 5 years ago when a nurse friend explained that soap is nice, but it’s friction that removes dirt and germs.

This is why you read the owners manual. It tells you to “add the desired amount of detergent”. Nowhere does it say to just pour in detergent without measuring
@fixthishouse3303
@fixthishouse3303 7 ай бұрын
"the desired amount" hardly qualifies as a precisely measured quantity.....

The way I was explained that flap is actually for when you put powder in, then flip it up. The people who invent this stuff i swear never use the stuff and don’t do there own anyway.

@fixthishouse3303 5 ай бұрын
Interesting idea. There are lines for measuring, but they aren’t reliable for liquid detergents. Maybe flipping the flap after adding powder detergent is the best explanation.
