I like how you bent the fence over at the top to keep the cats from climbing out. Great work. Thanks for the update.

A truly determined cat could/can pull some gymnast moves and flip themselves out, especially if the fold-over is < 500mm wide, but for generally happy home cats, especially being kept inside during night, it poses enough of a deterrent. In this case I think I've used about 550~600mm wide, just to be *really sure*

Hi Paul, glad to hear to from you. The new fence looks really nice, I'm sure it was a lot work constructing it. You do so much for your fur kids and I know it makes a very big difference in their lives, thank you. I had to put down my sweet baby girl last month, she was just 2 weeks shy of her 21st birthday. It was one of the hardest things I ever had to do. Her name was Ellie. I'd like to make a contribution for the fence or whatever you need in Ellie's memory.

Good morning - very sorry to be hearing about Ellie; and yes, it's the toughest thing to be doing, your rational vs heart conflict and you're always finding yourself wondering afterwards :( Many thanks for the contribution, it actually will be very useful; I'll try also to see if I can make a nice "contributors" board in the property because it's important to remember who selflessly helped. Will try put up more videos soon of the enclosure(s) and house development, along with the furkids of course. Thank you again, and hope you find some things to hold on to during those rough-sea times that come at you out of the blue.

If you're wondering why we don't take the fence out to the property line, it's because ultimately we will replace this fencing with more colourbond (metal) and as such it's easier for us to leave room for that to be installed in such a way that we don't have to disturb the interior (current) fence until such time that it's complete and then we simply tear down the old log+mesh fencing. It's a bit of a waste long term but there's just no realistic way to come up with the extra $40k needed to finish up the property line with colourbond at this point, add to that we want to start putting money in to the *house* again since we've still got two pallets of tiles to install as well as major overhaul of a few rooms and lots of ceilings.

Cats like to walk along the top of a colourbond fence. Ask me how I know. 🤦♂

Wow, that's a lot of work, and expense, I'm sure. You have quite the dedication to your cats.

Escape is not an option. We've had the preventing-them-getting-out mostly under control for many years but lately we've started having issues of other cats (and some dogs!) getting IN to the yard, so now extra work has being done to stop that. Options are not cheap either, the catnet solution adds another $20/m. Our preferred choice would be 6~7' colourbond metal fence with rollers on top but that's about $175/lm collectively (vs $50/lm for the system I'm using here). End of the day, we've not had any real "rest" for a few years now because of the rescues we've done and the above mentioned ingress issue now, and it's greatly affecting my ability to focus on work, which of course means it's costing us real money.

Cats will always find a way out/in Paul. You should know that already 😀

Imagine Mr. Clinton, Blackberry and Oreo had that much luck?

Hehe! That fence would be flattened every winter here. I used some 3mm dia steel mesh and the 2 meters of snow just pulled it down to ground so hard it folded like an accordion. Not sure if I'll take your spiders over my winters. It's a tough choice.

I hope you left a baseball and glove in the 'cooler', but I'd be careful if the cats start asking for more serious recreational equipment, like a wooden horse. Good to see you are ok.

Wouldn't a large ball of string be more appropriate to the kitty cats? 🤭 It too me a couple of seconds to twig to the ball and glove; very clever. 👍

Can you share details of the fencing you are using? Wouldn't mind putting up some myself and that price sounds cheap.

100mm/4" dia kopper logs (treated), 2400mm / 8' long; drop them 600mm in to the ground and affix however you prefer ( rapid set, or tamping with cement+dirt dry mix ). Mesh is 75x50 (3x2"), 1200mm wide (4'), 30m long rolls are what I usually buy. I put the posts in 2400mm apart, some people use 3000mm but I prefer the shorter distance. String up the lower run of mesh at ground level, then the tricky part is the top half. You should end up with 600mm on the post, 600mm extending beyond, which you can then fold down.

Problems with cats coming IN? Sorry, but that's hilarious.
