Heh, I only played one game of new Kill Team (and watched another). It was against Custodes and... it made me not want to play any more... 2 fire teams of 2 Custodi each is way too strong. Death Guard gets 2 fire teams of 2 Plague Marines each, Space Marines can take one fire team of 5 Intercessors... and Talons of the Emperor can bring this :-P Pretty crazy nonsense.

Malcador has long been my favorite character in all 30-40K lore. 31:20 If I recall correctly, the soulbinding-ritual was the method by which sanctioned imperial psykers are basically shielded from becoming a pawn to Chaos - a necessity for them to be permitted to use their power in service to units such as the Imperial guard and Inquisitors' retinues. The "feeding" of the Emperor, however, is left as the fate of those deemed unworthy or incapable of going through the soulbinding ritual

Two observations regarding that ending speech: 1.) I think the entirety of the Black Templars would lose the will to live if they heard that speech, because they could never match that level of scorn. 2.) As much of an Imperium fanboy as I am, yeah, I think I understand where some of the traitor legions were coming from.

The 'firstborn', for they were more than just companions, philosophers, scientists, politicians, diplomats, warriors, soldiers, warlords, historians, artists, and so much more. For they are the first son's of The Emperor himself, they were the first, they preceded the Thunder Warriors, Primarchs, Astartes, Primaris. And for that honor do we call them 'Firstborn', for they where the first and will be the last to stand by His side. In His name do they stand for even in death do they still serve!

I find it rather bizarre that just because they were ambushed, the custodes thought the marines were unfit for purpose. Yes, astartes are below custodes. Yes, they are much more human and thus fallible than the custodes. But being ambushed by the great enemy does not mean they were betrayed from within. The black and white thinking of the custodes will always be perplexing to me. I know they blame the astartes as they should do but purging an entire chapter over such an infraction would be impractical and counter productive, especially given the needs the imperium suffers from now more than ever. I am aware that this is your interpretation of them but I have seen it before as well. If they truly are the peak of humanity in both prowess and teaching, then perhaps they should look inwards and see just how fallible they really are. They may never fall to chaos, but they still suffer from the gift, or sometimes curse, of being human

@@servit0r as I mentioned, that seems how all the custodes have been recently. Even in official gw stuff, they look down upon the astartes almost in disgust. Only when they surpass their expectations are they even acknowledged. The custodes in the Torch Bearer fleets were probably the worst for this. As stated what the custodes are doing is just dumb. They lack the information about the state of things and purging the remnants of a chapter for something so petty may well have just doomed that whole sector because now it is defenceless. Had the custodes known that the chaos forces had already wipes out 3 entire chapters, they may have respected the astartes more for surviving for so long. As they ambushed the chaos forces, by their logic there was a double agent in that chaos warband feeding information to the custodes which quite frankly is absurd. Now that I think about it, custodes vs salamanders or raven guard would be quite impressive to see. Salamanders sheer fire and craftsmanship and the mastery of shadows and deception of the raven guard pitted against the gods of battle that are the custodes. They are by no means Gods of war. The custodes could win a single war if they wanted to but they would lose 3 others across the sector. Without the astartes, even with all their failings and imperfections in the eyes of the ten thousand, the custodes would have nothing to defend except the husk of a galaxy and the rotting world that is terra
