Almost 50 years after this show was done and I still get chills. I can name on 2 hands Three Dog Nights greatest songs, with more to spare. The idea was rather unique, having three virtuoso singers, pushing each other to get the best sound. If you were alive in the late 1960s you knew Three Dog Night.

I was a very popular babysitter and when the adults went out for dinner I watched their 2 daughters and their friends. One of the friends I watched was 8 year old Cory Ann Wells. This group had some of the best vocal talent in all of rock n roll, and there were three of them!!!!! I put them up there with David Clayton-Thomas, Robert Plant, Steve Parry, Paul Rogers and Annie Wilson, all great vocalists, of the rock era. Corey and the boys could compete with any of them!

I like the original and 3DN versions, but my favorite is the instrumental jazz version by trumpet legend Maynard Ferguson from the M.F. Horn album. IT’s energy always reminded me of this live with the dynamic contrasts of the original. Still, one cannot be disappointed by the remarkable vocals like we hear here. I am one of the lucky ones who was able to see a performance of this LIVE!! They were playing two shows in Chicago, and I got tickets to see the first one. It was incredible!! The performance in this video was taped for a Public TV Station in Chicago either before or after the concerts. It wasn't aired on TV until afterward. I was SO thrilled to be able to relive the concert over and over again, because I bought the video of this Soundstage production. On another note, I recently bought tickets to see them again in a local theater north of Chicago. It's September 12th, and I can't wait. I've seen Three Dog Night well over a dozen times, as they are my MOST favorite group ever. Always an excellent show. I saw them 2 years ago, after Cory passed away. I had tears in my eyes, as he was always my favorite. His handpicked replacement was very good, and a great time was had by everyone in the packed house to see them again. Laura Nyro, I am a huge fan of hers songs, wherever they show up. I went to a Tiny High School..75 of us in my graduating class..in 1972! Someone heard me singing this song..and the next thing I knew, I was intrinsically intertwined with this song. Didn't know I was so popular or infamous that anyone cared what song I liked. Small towns are home....but they are weird. Try Feelin' Alright or In The Country or...Celebrate. For your personal enjoyment "Live at the Forum" sometimes when you have an hour to kill.

I’m 78 now, but I was at my finest when this came out. All the clubs played 3 Dog Night and the dancing was amazing. All of 3DN is and was the best. Make sure you check them out, there’s lots to learn!!! This version is my favorite song of all time but the 1969 is great with a lot of fun and energy. ❤❤❤❤❤

Eli’s Coming was written by Laura Nyro. She wrote the music and the lyrics. She never got the fame and recognition she deserved. She had extreme stage fright. You should listen to her version.

She’s one of my favorite singer/songwriters! Her first few albums contained so many hits- for other artists, anyway. She was really creative , ahead of her time. Yes, she had terrible stage fright. My sister saw her perform in the mid 70s. She only played for a half hour. Yes, I recommend that people listen to her version, as well as other hit songs she wrote.
