Great song from an Epic album. Went to a music store picked up this album and double vision. Couldn't choose so got both. First ones I bought with my own money. And my vinyl collection began. Thanks. Harry. Aka Lowrider.

American & British band. It's how the name came to be: no matter whether in the U.K. or America, some members of the band would be Foreigners. First singer is the guitarist Mick Jones and later when the power comes through it's Lou Gramm .Love this song - Thanks Harri.

Foreigner put out some GREAT tracks - Even in the 1980's AND (surprisingly) the 1994 "Mr Moonlight" album The latter album received NO fanfare or promotion (except for the brilliant lead-single from it "White Lie") There ARE at least SIX "masterpiece" tracks from their 1994 "Mr.Moonlight" album folks ARE unfamiliar with. Same goes for the SUPERB hard-hitting track "The Beat of My Heart" from the 1987 "Inside Information" L.P It starts with a stunning 'Spanish Flamenco' guitar from Mick, then descends into "nasty" Hard Rock chords. One of the true GREAT tracks that gets (got) tragically lost AFTER the peak of their success (Agent Provocateur) "Hole in My Soul" , "All I Need to Know" , "Rain" , "Running the Risk" , "I Keep Hoping" = ALL deserve recognition... Those tracks I've mentioned (above) are ALL from the unknown 1994 Mr.Moonlight album, went under the radar It also contains some of Lou Gramm's finest work & was THE last time that Mick & Lou would record in studio... To ANY Foreigner fan worth their salt, go check it out AND listen to the songs a few times over, to appreciate them Harri' - In the vague remote hope you DO get to read this, please listen & give those unknown songs a review Very very memorable hooks , vocal lines & guitar riffs, they ALL deserve attention. (& "Beat Of My Heart")

"Speed increasing, all control is in the hands of those who know, Will they help us grow, to one day be starriders" - that part was sung by Lou Gramm. The rest of the vocals were sung by Mick Jones.

This is a great deep cut from Foreigner. Love that spacey guitar riff in the bridge; it reminds me of the guitar sound from Manfred Mann's Blinded By The Light. I believe Headknocker is the next track off the debut album and it is a real hardp-edged rocker, one of my favourites.

Great choice, Louis, and great reaction, Harri! I don't remember ever hearing this song before. Wikipedia says that the lead singer on "Starrider" is Mick Jones, one of the rare Foreigner songs he sings lead vocals on ... and not Lou Gramm, although I can hear Lou Gramm in certain parts.

I think there's also a difference between beginning to hear a band in their later work, loving a song or two, and going back to their early work and loving that too. When you grow up with a band and they make a sudden change, it's a lot easier to be critical. Like slowly growing up with someone who moves away for a year and when they come back, they're completely different. Your friendship is usually not the same.

Foreigner had both American and British musicians. Thanks Harri. MTV, which at the time it was new, had a lot of bands doing these cheesy videos, that had nothing to do with the actual lyrics of the song, turned people against the bands music, imho. ☮🖤🤘

For me, overall, Foreigner is a GREAT band. A band (again for me) who had more misses than hits. However, If you look at their catalog you'll see they put out a TON of music in a very short period of time. The entire first through fourth albums were truly excellent. I thought their second album (Double Vision) was almost as good as their debut. I felt then and do still now feel "I Want To Know What Love Is" was not a sell out but overall a terrible song - including the vocals. Lou Graham is easily one of the greatest ever rock vocalists. And the reason there are zero good or even decent covers of their songs. As far as intensity is concerned, Graham has no equal!
@hawnyfox3411
@hawnyfox3411 Жыл бұрын
Wouldn't be remotely SO BAD "if" you could even get the lead singer's NAME right, F.F.S !! His name is "Louis Grammatico" (Italian/American) shortened to "Lou GRAMM" = not "Graham" [sic]

Harri, I didn't much like them in the mid 80s, but loved them in the 70s. Most of the bands I loved in the 70s became dreadful in the mid 80s if you ask me. I feel like it had to do with MTV, where they just needed content, so bands churned out subpar music just to stay relevant and IMO suffered greatly for it. Can't think of anyone who improved in the 80s. Not that I'm dwelling on it, though.

I agree with you 100%. I've been saying the same thing for years, to anyone who cares to listen to my griping about how MTV ruined so many great bands of the 70's.

@@rodjohnson2632, THANK YOU! I'm used to getting into arguments about this and people bring up bands that I just don't like, so it's not much of an argument from me, but you know people.... Mind you, I LOVED MTV, but certain bands and certain videos. My preference is to hear a song and have my mind create the images and then see the videos and judge which is better (usually my imagination), but there were some epic videos back then too. For the most part, videos had nothing to do with the music and detracted from the music. Harumph.
@rodjohnson2632

@@elysehfm8797 I don't hate everything from those days on MTV either. Some bands and solo musicians owe their careers to MTV, but it really stunk for me to see so many of my favorite bands go with the wave and produce sub-par music. The music took a back seat to the visual spectacle. There were some great, creative videos done for sure, but that's not what I'm looking for in music. I dropped so many favorite bands in the 80's, and never looked back.

Problem with ""𝕀 𝕎𝕒𝕟𝕟𝕒 𝕂𝕟𝕠𝕨 𝕎𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕃𝕠𝕧𝕖 𝕀𝕤" arises from the fact it's "Hacked To Death" = Overplayed by far That's THE exact point as to why many U.K "Foreigner" fans loathe it so much - Like "Oh No, Not THAT Yet Again" After you've heard it 6-million times (Radio/Supermarket/Mall etc) it starts grating on ya - (As it does with me) Exact same thing with Boston's track "More Than A Feeling" - overplayed on Radio (Yawn) & Television Adverts Barclay's Bank hacked it to death around the year 2000 (T.V advert) when it had ALREADY been hacked on Radio Phrase = "Over Familiarity Breeds Contempt" So applicable in this instance with "I.W.K.W.L.I" (above) "Starrider" never gets played, so, never suffers under the over familiarity axe Many of their 1980's tracks AND even 1994 tracks (the forgotten Mr.Moonlight album) are GREAT too But they definitely lost their initial charm once success bit down hard I can't over stress the top paragraph enough, speaking myself as a lifelong "Boston" & "Foreigner" fan. Public at large think that those two (famous) tracks I mentioned (up top) are ALL these bands ever did - (sad)
