One of the few games I ever got to play with my dad. Thanks for the memories.

I friggin' love DOS golf games. Dunno why, but it's _the_ most appealing way to play virtual golf to me.

brings back memories of my dad, grandpa, and uncles all playing this game. One time they were in the middle of a game and it was dinner time. i finished early, and rushed back to the computer and took my uncle's shot from 2 feet from the pin with a driver apparently, and it hit the pin dead on, and did the weird animation where it just ricocheted repeated off the pin and went in. (I was 6)

Ahh...I'll never forget the time I got a slam on the second stroke of a par-5 hole. My jaw dropped...I couldn't believe it was possible! They only talk about these things in legends! It slammed straight in the hole, no bounces. It was just unbelievable!!

Links Golf and Microsoft Golf were my childhood. This game I never went into, because I was more into newer and more realistic looking golf games at the time I got my start in PC gaming, which I believe was back in early 1991.

Unti you mentioned the CGA composite support, I was initially giving it a bit of an odd look with those chunkier graphics. I do have to admit, I really did dig the faux-rotation of the view - I don't really remember many golf sims from the era which actually did that…
@Pixelmusement8 жыл бұрын
+hellfire64 I don't think there's any. I'm, fairly certain this was also one of the first games to have a properly rendered 3D view, as opposed to just faking one, but that was harder to determine which is why I didn't comment on it. :B

You can use woods from sand but it is pretty rare, hybrids are common now though. Deep rough is always more penalizing than sand though in real life, so that's accurate. I like the power bar and how it's harder to gauge perfect distance 80% and above. That's how it is in real life, it's hard to take just a little bit off a shot.

The Tandy 1000 SX was my computer for years. Now I suddenly remember that I wasted countless hours playing Leaderboard Golf. Other games like Quest for Glory ran also, but barely. 7.16 MHz of RAW POWER!!

+Still Gaming Ours had a 286 Express Card built-in, which essentially took over the functions of the 8088 CPU and ran twice as fast... at least until we later upgraded to DOS 6.2 which wasn't compatible with the software to use the Express Card. Whoops. :P

The "two greys being the same" could be related to composite CGA. When using the standard CGA composite mode, the is in fact only one shade of grey (bit patterns 5 and 10 both give a 50% grey). If they did the composite CGA mode first and then based the EGA mode on that (choosing the closest EGA colour to each composite CGA colour) that could explain it. However, that doesn't explain why the two greys are represented by different colours on RGBI CGA. Weird!
@Pixelmusement7 жыл бұрын
+andrewmjenner There's probably a perfectly valid reason which will remain a mystery for all eternity. :B

Can this game be played on Windows 98 in DOS mode? Anyone who knows?
@Pixelmusement6 жыл бұрын
+Niklas Pihl It should work, but the sound effects may not play back properly and anything transition/animation related may go super-fast. :B

Thank you for your answer! Which type of computer are recommend to play these kinds of games? Does it works better with an 486DX22/66? Cheers!
@Pixelmusement6 жыл бұрын
+Niklas Pihl I actually recommend just using DOSBox on a modern system since if you want to go with real hardware you'll need multiple setups if you want to cover the whole spectrum of DOS games. If you MUST have a real system, but don't have the room/money for more than one, put one together that will more closely cover the era of DOS games you enjoy the most, or most want to have real hardware for playing.

Have you heard about PCem? That's the best PC emulator along with its derivative 86box right now, on the rare occasion DOSBox has inaccuracies you can rely on PCem solving your issues. I would also suggest to make a review of that program, there isn't much online yet.

You may want to invest in a 5' Floppy Interface Cable to USB Cable for your older games. I bought one years ago for 30 dollars and you would be suprised at how often I still use it (Mind you it also supports IDE and SATA).
@Pixelmusement8 жыл бұрын
+Doiteify It's not really TOO imperative; I have access to most of my 5 1/4" games through other means. That said, when I started ADG almost seven years ago, options for connecting a 5 1/4" drive to a computer were severely lacking, but that's definitely improved since then. :B

Funny, I'd never heard of this golf game - and I had (and still have the disks for!) a bunch of different golf games back in the MS-DOS days. (PGA Tour Golf, Links, MS Golf...) Yet, I never learned to play golf for real! (Tried a couple times, was *TERRIBLE*.)
@Pixelmusement8 жыл бұрын
+Anonymous Freak I know how to play golf for real but I wasn't too great at it, plus due to unrelated knee injuries from when I was a teenager I'm not able to do a proper golf swing without collapsing to the ground in pain so... probably never going to learn to play better.
