Drug holidays reduce tolerance to a medication by removing the substance from the bloodstream. Most Stimulants clear out from the body(undetectable in urine)in 72-96 hours, 3-4 days. If you’re using low dose-5mg once a day, you won’t notice withdrawal symptoms. Which is great!. Stay on lowest effective doses. Its just far safer and effective. If you do increase dose, don’t blast yourself by taking massive doses.

Not sure if you're still reading those, but i have a question: what would you recommend, if your country did not have, say, amphetamine available and the medics use *only* methylphenidate, considering that you almost never felt a substantial improvement while taking methylphenidate? I've actually pretty systematically studied this in myself. I take pretty frequent breaks from my medication, adderall. For a while I would feel pretty much useless and unable to get engaged in anything for about... 2 weeks. I started running regularly about a year and a half ago. I've noticed that when I take a break now, the period of feeling low-key depressed has shortened proportionally to the duration and intensity of my run. For me, the ideal is 7 or so miles per hour, for 30-40 minutes. I'm usually feeling basically myself again in 3-4 days. I actually haven't had to increase my dosage from the starting dosage because when I start to notice the effects blunting, I take a week or two off. Of course, I am significantly less productive on those off weeks, but it's the best balance I've been able to strike so far.

Vyvanse we more calm, made me feel like I did not have ADHD, I could work on a task for hours straight at finish it without having to restart if I did not like is 100%. Methylphenidate worked the best for me, I felt human, ADHD was no longer a major issue, I could focus on a task and still take breaks to sleep, eat and etc. Methylphenidate worked for th best for me and so far after 3 years I dont have a dependence for it, yes I could go without it and my ADHD would come right back but I dont feel 'addicted' or a constant need for it.

I was just diagnosed with ADHD and was prescribed 18mg of Concerta. 1st day, I felt a very calming sensation that let me focus on one thing and not get frustrated and overwhelmed. Day 2, I didn't feel anything at all. My doctor told me to bump it up to 18mg in the morning and another 18mg around lunch. Felt a few hours of calm and then nothing. The first night I slept the entire night for the first time in years. Ever since then I wake up a few times but do feel like I get back to sleep a bit easier. It's now been 7 days, and I don't feel anything at all. Before I was receiving medication, I used to drink a TON of caffeine (soft drinks). As soon as I was on Concerta, I didn't crave caffeine. I messaged my doctor about my Concerta script, feeling like it isn't doing anything. I'm baffled on how the first day had such good results, but they diminished so quickly, even when the dose was doubled. Honestly, it makes me scared that I won't find any relief. 😢

Eating properly and hydration are key as is getting enough solid sleep and exercise. If any of the mentioned things are unbalanced it can make it seem as though the medications are less effective or not working at all. That being said there is a certain amount of medication in each class of stimulant that have what's called getting out of the therapeutic window and causing a zombie like feeling or state or a hyperactive rambling state. So I have been on ADHD medication for over 20 years and I now take 60mgs daily of Adderall (2 x 30mg Adderall IR per day). I also take things like omega essential oils that are prescribed and Vitamin D. I also make sure to get enough Vitamin C though not with in an hour of taken the medications as this can cause it to not absorb properly in your stomach. Lack of enough Vitamin C can cause worse symptoms even at high dosages of the medications. I think dialing back your meds for a while or even taking off days that you absolutely do not have to be your best is rather helpful as well.

I then try to do my daily walk while my Elvanse is kicking in so I dont feel like a zombie, it makes the drug kicking In much more effective and gets me going for the day. Once I've found the right amount for me I will try brakes if I feel it not working, im only on week 2 and on 50mg, next week they are putting me on 70mg so I'll see how that goes and hopefully find a level that's good for me. 😊

@@RadekPilich My cbt therapist specializes in ADHD, at every appointment she draws up homework routines that target ADHD related behaviours and thought patterns. For example, and I'm paraphrasing loosely here, but people with ADHD are extremely prone to low self esteem and depression because of the repeated failures and setbacks due to their symptoms. Through CBT, we develop new routines and and ways to set goals and progress tracking methods that help making progress much easier and organized. I suppose the short answer is, people with ADHD struggle with following through with things and attaining their goals, despite being talented in some areas, and this causes them to develop a negative self image. Through the restructuring of ones habits and approaches to daily life, goals become completed, and self image improves. It's done a lot for me.

This is why I experimented with micro-dosing concertaXL. I learnt how the capsule was constructed, then carefully took them apart. For each capsule, I kept the shell, as the outer shell contains 20% of the drug. Then the pale inner parts contain the drug, and the grey weird part has no drug, it’s just an osmotic expander that’s meant to push the pale part out gradually thru the day. I then put the shell bits in foil, and the crumbled up pale drug part in foil. I can make an 18 mg or 27mg Concerta last 7 days, but just taking a tiny amount of crumbled drug when appropriate. Or half the shell as a dose. This has helped me greatly, as I’m an ultra sensitive person too. And I don’t want to become resistant or damage my brains own neurotransmitter system. Next time I get pills I’m going to explain I don’t want the timed release as I like control over dosing it. I also have a digestive system that doesn’t work properly cuz also have an autoimmune disability too... But it’s really helped!!! I don’t get a downer thing either. ps- don’t copy me lol. Never take an entire dose of a timed release MPH/AMT at once out of its special osmotic push capsule!!! I micro-dose!

I honestly cannot believe you’re encouraging people to deconstruct the osmotic release of Concerta and ‘micro-dose’ the inner contents. If you want more control over your dosing, why not try Ritalin? With all due respect you have no idea how much of the drug you’re taking as you might just be swallowing a whole bunch of filler. Please don’t proliferate this kind of practice on social media, you seem to have little to no concept of the fact that these drugs can be given to younger children who would see this comment and start deconstructing their tablets. There’s a reason it says ‘do not chew, swallow whole’ on timed release medications.

Now I've been off ADHD medicine for quite a long time (I want to get back on it), but I would honestly recommend talking to your doctor before starting anything like this. Now in saying that, I know I was off my medication (when I was on it) during the weekends and summer break- I took it throughout my school career. All I really know is my parents had made me take it during the school week, I did not have to take it during the weekends, and I started taking it again a few weeks before school started (I think).

As a kid in the 90s I was basically a test subject for all the ADHD meds, I never liked any of them. Being an adult and lacking in a successful career I realized I should give it a try. I seemed to grow out of the H in ADHD but still have a hard time. Feeling overwhelmed, unmotivated, can’t focus. The addy’s worked well the first few months but not so much anymore, maybe I’ll take a week off and see what happens. Thanks for the video 👆and the helpful comments 👇.

my body metabolizes any drug very efficiently, and i’m not happy about it. i take the highest possible dosage of a mood stabilizer and an antipsychotic for bipolar, but the concentration of meds in my blood hardly reaches the therapeutic dose. with concerta, it's even worse - i don’t feel the proper effect, and i’m on 112 mg already. it’s been 4 months since i started taking it. i desperately need it to work because my job requires high focus 😪

I think I might have to take up a career which allows me to use my ADHD to my advantage. I had bad reacts to ADHD medication as a child and I want to see a doctor again so they can test how my ADHD is doing then they can prescribe me medications and I can see if I can have a better reaction to them. If I have bad reactions to them now, before I enter college, then I might have to re-think my life. I need something that works with my ADHD or I know my life will be filled with anxiety, hatred, and sadness.

Aerobics can increase your basal dopamine rate, any drug that creates peaks of dopamine will influence in dopamine sensitivity and will need higher doses. Sometimes even switching drugs can not have a effective increase of effects because they work on dopamine levels too. Med dose decreasing is a good way to rebalance your dopamine receptors without having the withdrawl effects. Each brain have a different time to achieve the initial balance of receptors, sometimes months without the meds. So, aerobics is a good way tô treat adhd. And no caffeine.

For the first time in my life, I felt like I was just “in the moment” and my anxiety decreased. I still was easily distracted and impulsive, and still forgetting things. I'd say cutting it out is smart move. Technically, yes they can down regulate the receptors at a faster rate if you take those on top of the meds but depends on how much you have a day and genetic sensitivity. I try to limit it.

I can take as much as 120+ and have a coffee and still be tired or go to sleep even after an 8- 10 hour sleep night. So why do i still take it? I dont know. Maybe i get even more tired? Or maybe its a placebo effect type thing. Id like to take weekends off but i just don't. I just take my roommates because he doesn't take his anymore. Tolerance to stimulants is not very common. Often during puberty, the dosage of the medication needs to be adjusted, but that's not really tolerance. When there is a reduction in efficacy, it is usually not necessary to switch to a different medication. Increasing the dosage often does the trick. 18 mg of Concerta is a very small dosage. I've treat many patients who require up to 72 mg of Concerta.
