See what you actually need is three lists. The first is the every day stuff like brush your teeth and eat. 2nd is the additional things you want to do today. And 3rd is the list of all the other things that come into your brain but probably arent getting done today or anyday soon eg. Clean the oven, start a crotchet project etc.

For me, the 3rd type of list is a brain dump of sorts. I do them whenever I feel like I'm having too much on my mind and need somewhere to park all of this. Then, I draw from the brain dump for my weekly/daily lists so that the oven gets cleaned eventually.
@faescotland41744 ай бұрын
I try to use my diary for list number three to put a possible future date to the idea, then I don't have to keep repeating the thought in case I forget. It sometimes works. My current big to do list pad works well for lists no.1 and 2, it has sections for goals and priorities, where I can write the nice to do if possible things. Tick boxes are a must against the daily brush teeth list - so hard to find the right list pad for it though and it has to go on the long-term shopping list. 5 lists if you include 2 for shopping lists. Sigh.

He's not wrong. I have my "waking" and "sleeping" routines written out separately from anything else I need to do. After 7 months the sleeping is basically every day now without the list, and I'm now trying to get the waking routine the same. Doing it all daily when I'd barely done anything before was too much. Then I have a weekly checklist with 4-5 dots beside the tasks (washing the cats fountain, or taking the bins to the curb, for example). I have a spread every month in my journal that has calendars and all of my daily habits/tasks written 1 per calendar. I go over that about mid-way through the day to see what I've forgotten to do, and check it again at the end of the day when I still have time to do any I think can't wait. Other non-daily/non-regular tasks are on a "To-Do" for the whole week, and usually come from a monthly selection of things I think I'll want or need to do at some point that month. By pulling from a master list I get the dopamine fix of checking them off in multiple spots. 😉 If I still tried to do everything in 1 big daily list that I had to write every day I'd get completely overwhelmed and do 2 or 3 items out of everything, task list or daily, and shut down mentally/hyper-focus on electronics. By picking and choosing from the weekly task I also don't feel so pressured to get everything done if my mental capabilities aren't there that day.
@Avi_Z.5 ай бұрын

What an excellent idea!! I can't count the amount of lists I've written before an appointment that I've included teeth brushing, hair washing, getting dressed... It feels great to tick them off but the other, non every day shiz doesn't get ticked off and that was kind of the point of the list in the first place. The "to don't list" reminds me of a concept from a german satire called "Känguruh Manifest" (kangoroo manifesto). I make a to do list with everything like Rox, I need to because if I can't see it all there in the same place it's too hard to mentally juggle. Yeah. I have a list of "always" to do and it is written on a piece of paper that is one of those plastic paper protector things that go in binders. (It's a 5x7 because I don't like lists on big paper). Anyway, I then can add whatever I want on the plastic part and also check things off my always list - like dry erase - but I use fine line permanent marker instead and then use a little hanky with some rubbing alcohol when I need to clear things. This way, if my permanent list needs changing it is just a piece of paper and I can keep track. I also have a sheet protector on a normal size that is broken up in 5 sections for the work week and that is my "what did you do today?" sheet and I can write whatever I want which can be big or small accomplishments or meetings that I know I have/had. Planners just seem to not work. 1 single piece of paper in a sheet protector is way easier to manage and if I do somehow lose it, it is very easy to replicate and I don't feel as bad.

Welp, speaking from experience, such "always to do list" doesn't work, at least for me; I can get overhelmed in my head by when should I clean the mess or brush teeth exactly among "new to do today"; THE LAG of me staring at that paper sheet and thinking for several minutes instead of just "ok, this one" :.( Additionally, my best schelude is with two sides/columns: duties and ~fun~. Always color coded. Washing myself, going shopping or doing a meal is among duties, as they are often the challenge, 'cause I seriously struggle to focus when I'm comfortable or in panic mode (=getting late or being late already). The extreme example was preparing the dinner with my bf and he asked me to cut tomato into stripes and cucumber into half-slices. We were chillin', talkin'. Of course I cut totato into cubes and so did with cucumber! My mind is very overtalkative+creative all the time, so even such "natural" stuff is what I need to focus on! btw, everything on sky and Earth is showing me I have ADHD since childhood, but still cannot get diagnosis as I am.....on the edge of being poor, maybe even I am just that, just my family doesn't want to accept that as it's such a shame only I might be aware of seeing how some of my friends or coworkers react to me or bought me stuff often :(

I DO write down get up, lunch, shower etc. and then I write down work or other things to do that day. But the space is very limited for each day and on top it goes from Must to Should to Extra, so the more items i add the more i need to be selective. And then run out of space! It's been doing wonders for me, to help me see I can only do so much. I also added a Don't list: if I'm already busy with work and want to read and have shopping this day, then Don't worry about ukulele practice or doing to-dos (the ones in my long term to-dos list) on that day! I would love to show you a photo of it! (And can't wait to read your book, I'm on a waitlist with my library)

I include the basics, I just put a little > in front of them to be like "duh this" to myself lol

Oooh two lists, yaaaaasss let's do that. Or four: Things we want to achieve today; some time that week; " that month; " year

i completely stopped using "to-do-lists" and started doing "already-done-lists" instead. i only write down after i finished something, that way, the longer the list gets the more satisfied i am with my progress. like, look at all the things i've already done! it helps me stay motivated in my everyday struggle with chores. 😅 (of course, sometimes the list is only filled with random non-important stuff but still, it motivates me to think of chores that need to be done.😁)

Mine is more of a suggestion list, really. Sometimes, I'll write things down I've already done just to check it off😂

THIS!!!! I HATE To Do lists so I started calling them "Ta da" lists. It's helped a little..

I have lists of lists I've written.. I also write lists of things I've actually done on productive days, so I know what it feels like to complete a list, or pretend to 😂

Lol, I can't make a singular, coherent to-do list to save my life! As if by magic, I always end up writing 5 different versions of the same to-do list in 3 different planners--which then somehow adds ups to a total of 137 tasks I need to accomplish that day...

Most important list: next to door you leave your home from: 1 list for when you leave for 1h or the day : lock doors windows keys handbag with purse computerbag mobile phone foid and drink carkey or transportcard. For longer : put off waterheater, put of if necessary electricity or water, empty fridge, take out garbage, clothes & shoes bag . I still have to also put a little card in my daybag reminding me to take phone loader, money, cards, keys,... There are very disciplined "peeples" who add the list to their phone alarm which they put on for 30 or 15 minutes before leaving. If they can keep track of their phone all along they can read task after task and execute them. Makes me think that I've been meaning to buy a small neckbag to put my phone in to carry it - & not LOOSE it(...)- when in the house. Hereby a big tx shout out to my dear neighbours who help me by 1:02 closing my gate , getting my expensive coffee up on the gardenwall and or my frontdoorkeys...when once again I drove off without them, leaving it all behind me. ;-)()( () What would life be in a nasty neighbourhood?

I hate to-do lists and started writing ‘get done’ lists that would never have more than 3 things and every ounce of focus and energy I have for the day would go into making sure those priorities would get done.

The forever list 2.0 could be on a spinning lottery wheel where only one point can win. Then it would actually get done half of the time.

I used to have a to-do list but ended up losing it, no matter the form. I now have systems rather than lists. I have a good day -- the bare minimum: I wake up, the cats get insulin, I may or may not stay awake. It's a 'good' day because I'm trying to remove all the negative words I can. I have a better day -- all the good day stuff plus I do work (there are other schedules and lists for work, too tedious to outline although my brain is saying DO IT DO IT DO IT). And I have a best day. Those are the days where good and better are finished early and I can let myself do as I please, either a traditional list of things to work through. or better yet -- a side quest day. I give myself permission to just follow my ADHD brain where it leads me with the only caveat being I can't leave more mess than I started with. If my next day is a good day, then all that leftover mess from the best day just causes havoc. It's been working pretty well. I sense there are fewer good days, more better days and actually fewer best days, since they're not as productive in a linear sense. They are fun though. :)

I have a “One item” to do list - if there is something I must get done - that’s the one item - everything else is just a distraction - yes I realize this is ‘hyperfocus’ not attention distraction disorder - but it’s how I deal - my ‘one item’ just now was to make a comment on this video - first the distractions - feed the evening animals - turn off the hot tub - share the video - read all the comments - then actually write the comment - I’ve also watched a ton of the ADHD love videos - very good stuff -

Sometimes I wish I had the electronic journal like Skyrim or Neverwinter Nights that tracks what i HAVE to do to complete the mission and gives me a path to follow to complete the goals.... I get overwhelmed with my lists, alarms, to-do's, and if I stop even for 10 minutes I feel so guilty I am not being productive or accomplishing/validating my existence..... I keep trying the approach- "sometimes the best something you can do is nothing" but it usually doesnt last cause my mind races.... I do what I can- there is always tomorrow until there isnt- and then maybe peace

Showering takes a sniff and a bunch of remembering. Laundray is 4 seperate times in 2 weeks. A "forever list" Is the pretend stuff my therapist thinks I'm actually doing..

I love writing to-do lists but then I feel really pressured to do the all the stuff immediately and simultaneously and I end up in an anxiety spiral because thats just not possible all of which eventually culminates in me getting rid of the list.

lol to don't list...yup that's me. Motivation is hard to achieve for us ADHD people.

Unironically, for me it sounds like a memory problem rather than anything else.

I also have to write down to go to the toilet 😂 I tend to put it off or forget! So does my ADHD housemate. Does anyone else do that?
@TheMaximas694 ай бұрын
I would probably lose the first list, then spend half the day looking for it. Then realise it would be easier writing out the list again. Finally, I would become so far behind and overwhelmed I would procrastinate for the rest of the day.

"Tick off tasks" needs to be on the To Do list. I don't remember that part unless I'm hyperfocused on completing the list. 😅
