There’s a bizarre thing going on in Brazil. The way Asics organizes its sizing system means that the size 10 isn’t available for sale, which happens to be my size (and millions of other runners, probably). If I get the BR41 (9.5), my toe keeps hitting the upper up front. If I get the BR42 (10.5), it runs too long. And interestingly, nobody seems to have realized that.

NB V5 arrived yesterday, and threw them right into the fire this morning with 12 x 3mins at faster than 10k...I was shocked how well it performed. I had been using my Superblast V2 a bit more lately in anticipation of my NB V5 coming...and the SB V2 is now a purely long run with MP injections, I can't even stomach it anymore at HMP....it's just too much bulk. It can do it, but I have better shoes to do that. But the NB V5 allowed me to hit targets between 5/10k, when my intention today was between HM/10k. I kept getting stronger each rep and this was in -16C temps on packed snow trails. Impressed beyond belief with the shoe. Unless you are doing heavy volume marathon training, I no longer see the point in the superblast...the NB V5 is that good. Now....with that said my 2 interval shoes of choice are getting long in the tooth (Takumi Sen8 and Puma Deviate Nitro Elite V1) and I can see myself retiring both for a pair of Evo SL...if I can get my hands on a pair!
@SagasuRunning9 күн бұрын
See! I told you! Have I not been saying this on the channel since I reviewed the NB5 at the end of Nov/early Dec? The change to the trampoline effect I think is the real big deal with the NB5. Moving it as far forward on the shoe as they did makes it actually work. The new foam is nice, but it's not THAT massive of a change. The NB5 is am impressive shoe. I'm impressed it perfromed that well in those conditions. Talk about trial by fire (or ice). For the vast majority of runners the NB5 is a much better option, even in a marathon build. I'm glad you are getting on with them. As for a tempo trainer... Yup... ESL all the way.

Sounds like a solid pairing for 2025. I should be covered for daily trainers between the SNR and the Peg 41 though, but I'll consider the NB5 if the SNR gives out some time during the year. I've put 500k in them but I hope they'll still be good for 200-300k more. It took me a while to realise but, you were right, the SNR is better for running slow, which is why I rotate it with the Peg. Some days you just want to go slow.

Nice comparison. I think the NB is a great shoe for daily training and long runs. I prefer the SB a bit more. The NB colours aren’t that great though. The Evo SL looks like good value but I do think you can get 90% of the value from an older super shoe that you have laying around.
@SagasuRunning9 күн бұрын
I mean, yes to the older supershoe, if you have them laying around. I've always been a huge proponent of avoiding tempo trainers and just pairing a good daily trainer with a super shoe for training. Often rotating an older one with a fresher one in the build. I do think the ESL offers something unique though. The fact there is no plate, yet the performance is there matching a super shoe, is something that is quite useful in training.
@Pakperformance8 күн бұрын
@ yes that makes a lot of sense. I would want to try ESL. Seems like a great work travel shoe that could do a lot of things good enough. Long run, some intervals, and just wearing casually. I hate packing multiple shoes. The streak fly was a great travel shoe because they weigh nothing but I got injured on a longer run while traveling with them because the lack of protection.

ZoomX is still the gold standard for a super foam… all other brands gauge their foams to it. Some are nearly there but nothing is quite there yet. Also I travel and mainly running standard Peg… the Peg Plus is a tempo shoe for me. Though I have been warming up to it as an easy day shoe.

I mean...it's a minimalist neutral shoe...so take that into consideration. However, for current 2025 Adizero shoes, it's likely the best one for a mild pronators.
