You are right. None of this is new. The problem is that most people watch basketball for basketball, not hockey. Trying to injure skill players because you can’t compete with them due to your own inability is not entertaining. The WNBA is filled with individuals who can’t play at a professional level. The skill players have always been a target. Now a highly skilled player has come along and captured the attention of people who were never attracted to and thus not interested in women’s basketball, and people are seeing the pettiness and immaturity that has always been there. And this petty behavior comes across as racist, jealousy, and an attack on sexual preferences. The WNBA is too embedded with this horrific culture to grow and become a popular place to invest in.
