Thank you so much for this tutorial. My husband has a big beard and works at a sawmill doing heavy labour and regular masks didn’t fit and fog up his glasses so he used a homemade bandana that didn’t work very well either . He was talking of shaving until I seen this and suggested this mask for him. Well worth the $5 patten. He loves it. So simple to make with a great tutorial. I have made 4 in less then a couple hours. Thanks again, and I will be following for more for sure. ❤️😊

Hi Kim, Thank you for the feedback - it made me smile after a long day of filming a new video (with many blunders) I wondered if doing this was worth it - people really have no idea how involved making these videos are. Many are quick to judge and be a critic of your every word. But then - your message came into my inbox at that very moment. It made me smile, and reassured me this path is a worthy one! Thank you for the need inspiration! - Be well, Dawn

Thanks for the tutorial and pattern! Made this for my boyfriend - sewed a piece of elastic down inside the top of each side casing, then created separate ear loops with elastic that attached to the mask sides. Also added a dart at the top of the nose bridge, and top stitched the top of the nose bridge and the bottom edge of the mask. I elongated the pattern as his beard is long, however I think I could have gotten away without lengthening it.

I'm wondering what purpose the knit fabric serves here (as opposed to a woven). It doesn't seem like the stretch of the lining would really be needed. Does it just feel better against the skin? Does it help wick moisture into the thirsty flannel?
@StreamlineSeamstress3 жыл бұрын
Hello Janet, This is made of a woven fabric, flannel shirting. I used the rayon blend internally as a lining. Rayons/knits have electrostatic properties that help protect and it makes the mask soft, cozy and comfy! Thanks for watching!

Dawn, of all the mask making videos I have watched you are the first sewist to discuss grainline. THANK YOU! I think there are a lot of videos out there made by folks who don't have a history of sewing. I learned the basics in school in the 60's and had grainline drummed into my head. Since my hubby wears a beard, and I cringe when I see it peeking out under every mask I have made, I think I need to use your pattern and make him a new one. He has worn his Star Wars mask to death!

Thank you very much for watching, and for your comment it means the world. The pattern has been used on several guys, and so far I've had nothing but great feedback. Extend it for a very long beard - otherwise it fits 'most men' - honestly I love it too, it super comfy! I used shirting flannel which is a lighter flannel FYI. Best to you in New Years! Hi, Dawn -- I just finished sewing your "Dream Mask" and am quite happy with it. My daughter was also thrilled with its comfort and ease of wear. However, now I find your new video with what I suppose I would call upgraded techniqes, for example the nose triange. OK... I get that. But how does this apply to your Dream Mask that uses metal nose wires? I just bought the wire for this and now you say it's unacceptable. Hmmmm. I am confused. Do you have plans to rework your Dream Mask or should I keep on sewing it with your present teaching video, which is fabulous, by the way?
@StreamlineSeamstress3 жыл бұрын
Hi Joan, Thanks for the feedback, it is appreciated. It is the 'Dream Mask' pattern I created with the option for a nose wire, and a removable one at that. I was never a fan of them, for a million reasons but many don't feel 'safe' unless they have a mask with a wire. This is why I purposely made it removable - so if you want it - bingo, and if you don't then you omit it when sewing. I personally do not put the wire in my Dream Masks for myself, or my family unless they specifically request it. The Adjustable Beared mask is quite different, and I found that the flannel nose bridge keeps glasses from fogging - which in all honestly is the primary reason people want a wire in a mask. At least it is what I have found as the year has progressed. In my next video, I will explain more about why I prefer no wire, and defeat the myth that it is needed - it's not. Thank you for supporting my channel - a big new video coming soon that I'm working on now! I am very excited to share - soon! Be well, Dawn
@joantinsley34733 жыл бұрын
@@StreamlineSeamstress Thank you very much for your great explanation, Dawn.... yes, my daughter put the Dream Mask on, took out the wire and said "OH...I love this mask." She promptly took it home. :-) OK... I get the wire thing. I will make your Dream Masks so they can be with/without for my friends. I am going to make the Bearded mask for a man in our church. He's to be my "guinea pig"! Thank you very, very much for your videos. You are a wondeful teacher and a good person to do this for people like me who need just that little bit of encouragement and confidence. All the best, be healthy and be blessed..... Joan

Hi Dawn. I don't see a link in the description for the pin cushion. It looks magnetic. Are they making magnetic pin cushions any differently these days so the pins lay better? (Without so many that face outward and jab me when I'm not so careful about how I grab them) I think mine is from the 90's. It's round. I'm curious about the one you're using anyway. I'm also curious about the little pincushion (?) on your wrist. At least I think it's a pincushion. I don't see a link for that one either. I even checked your website, but didn't find anything like that among your products. I did enjoy reading about your background though while I was there.

Hi, Dawn. Could this mask be made with two layers of quilting cotton? Thanks!
@StreamlineSeamstress4 жыл бұрын
Yes, it can. You may need to add a little to the width for the drawstring hems, I'd say 3/8" It's not going to be as fluid as the flannel, thus that adjustment would help. I'd also make sure to cut on the cross grain, with a tiny bit of stretch and cut the nose bridge as the pattern details. Thank you Jane, good luck!
