Tim Totten from Lake County Mask Creators shows off a mask design that one of the members, Winnie, suggested. Winnie figured out sizing and made some modifications while Tim suggests a few new ways to sew it.
It doesn’t require any nose wire.
Can be made with either elastic loops or ties.
Check out a cool version made by KZbin user Cheerful_something_something to look like a PUMPKIN!!!

Absolutely love this, I have worked in health care for 29 years now and can honestly say, the use of a simple MASK can and WILL reduce the transmission of this horrible bug. I love to quilt, not many guys will confess to that but I find it quite relaxing to just sit and sew, odd I guess. I really appreciate your sharing this simple but yet so beneficial video to the viewers. Please take care and by all means, encourage people to wear a mask. Thank you for all you do. God Bless.

Super mask! Great tutorial and excellent filming. I made one for my husband and I. I cut my elastic 8 inches and his 8 1/2. When finished I put two tiny quarter inch deep darts on the sides of each cheek, making the dart about 1 inch long. It really tucked it into my face nice and tight. My husband did not need the extra dart. The best thing for sure is no fog on my glasses!

I have made about 300 masks since March, but the first vertical-pleat mask was a great hit with my schoolteacher daughter, who said it was super comfy and it poofed out so that it didn't touch your mouth. She asked me to make another for her and one for her larger hubby. Thanks for the simple and easy-to-follow directions. I also like lots of ironing.

Not everyone has extra money for a machine and supplies. They decide to feed their children instead. And if they do not have food money and a no sew is the best they can do at the moment, at least they are trying to not suck in and eat sick slimy snot from a sick person into their mouths.

It's so grand to have a guy providing a mask tutorial, and you certainly do a fantastic job :) The world needs more Tim Tuttons! Bravo and many blessings to you and all those you care for. (I did add a center layer of 3M Filtrete filter for extra protection; the simplicity of this shape made that addition very easy.) Thanks again!

@gwynngriffin3508
@gwynngriffin3508 3 жыл бұрын
@@blueleafblueleaffarmsllc1898 Hi, Stephanie :) To be fair, what I added isn't a pocket in the sense that with filter pockets I've made before, the filter is removable and replaceable. For this pattern, I simply cut a piece of the Filtrete smaller than the seam allowances and placed it so it would become a middle layer. It doesn't even require stitching it to the other two layers; it actually makes the pleating too thick if you cut the filter the same size as the back and front. But it stays in place just fine as a "free" layer. You can even tuck it inside after you've turned the mask right side out. Hope this helps!
@brucewmclaughlin9072
@brucewmclaughlin9072 3 жыл бұрын
Well that was interesting and there is more hope of doing pleats as you showed how to do them. I too want the fabric away from my face as my current 3+ layer does not leave gaps on the side of the face but is also a bit tighter to the lips than wanted. Thanks for a well explained demonstration.

Great tutorial. Great idea for vertical pleats. I would suggest one improvement; don't sew both ends shut. Leave one end open, because then you can put in a filter (if you can find one), a tissue, a paper towel, a piece of non-woven interfacing, a piece of silk, or other material with a different weave (helps block viral particles).
@conisims1728

Or you can just iron on a non woven interfacing to one or both fabrics and that acts as a filter and keeps mask looking nice and crisp through washing’s.

This is SO easy! I’m making it easier still by making a cardboard template that I can trace around, then cut. It saves lots of folding/pressing/measuring/cutting steps. Glad I found this video.

Just to give you the up to date info here in Canada we are advised to use 3 layers now. I must say I have made one of these already from another video, but yours was much easier to get the same result. As a lady, I added lace on both sides and around the nose and get lots of compliments.

I know it's not relevant but I'm a vocal coach and like someone said earlier, I know great teaching when I see it. You have the gift! Some say 'those who can't DO -teach.'. I say- few can truly teach WELL. A great teacher anticipates things not to do as well as thing 'to do'. You explain things as well with sewing as my mother did to me as a girl. And she was a great teacher. Ive subscribed because I just got sewing machine this Xmas. I think this Chanel is going to grow HUGE if you're patient and consistent! Keep going!

That mask is genius, and your detailed instructions are perfect! I wish you’d make an account on that giant online seller named after a river, and then link both the elastic and the doohickeys 😉 We’d know which ones to buy, and you’d get a teensy percentage of our purchases 🤓 Win-win!

Great video, thanks!! I loved how you stitched and then folded the rectangle to trim using the mat, and pressed in creases based on seams and corners, instead of using a template and measuring. So obvious now I’ve seen it! I’ll be looking for the cord locks and soft elastic. Would love to see measurements for various sizes, I’ll have to learn more about you tube to find them and whatever other videos you’ve made, as I only know that channels exist here but not how to find or navigate them:) I’ll be trying this out tomorrow and since it’s all based on a rectangle I can try different sizes and wing the corners. Looks like one could create side channels for elastic without too much trouble, too. Thanks again to you and Winnie, I’ve seen a lot of mask videos and this is the best by far; you’re very good at this!

Good idea. I am getting this red mark where the metal piece at the top of the mask rubs against top of my nose. I thought about creating a soft extra casing for this bit but your idea is even better still. But, even with the vertical pleats, I still would do a bit of gathering or insert some shirring or hat elastic to have the sides sit more snugly against the face. So less air can get in on the sides. I've been considering the balaclava mask idea. It would give the best cover is correctly designed. With the added benefits of keeping your entire face warm in cold conditions or keeping face from burning in hot sun, like in Australia in summer. The summer version could be of washable light fabric but three layers around mouth and nose area. The winter version could be of knitted acrylic or wool etc fabric with a removable cotton or similar washable lighter fabric in three layers, for the mouth and nose covering. This could be removed and washed daily, no need to wash the rest of the covering as often. Less virus could get in with such a versatile mask. The only drawback is people not able to recognise their friends, which is also a problem now, in their masks we are all required, by law, to wear here.
