Hi Tim! I'm a teacher so I know good teaching when I see it. Super mask! Great tutorial and excellent filming. I made one for my husband and I. I cut my elastic 8 inches and his 8 1/2. When finished I put two tiny quarter inch deep darts on the sides of each cheek, making the dart about 1 inch long. It really tucked it into my face nice and tight. My husband did not need the extra dart. The best thing for sure is no fog on my glasses!

What a great idea! And your video is so easy to follow. Also, you have captured the secret to great sewing with your liberal use of that steam iron! However, my tailoring teacher back in 1972 would say you were pressing, not ironing. Ironing was for when we laundered but pressing was for when we sewed.

I love to quilt, not many guys will confess to that but I find it quite relaxing to just sit and sew, odd I guess. It's so grand to have a guy providing a mask tutorial, and you certainly do a fantastic job :) The world needs more Tim Tuttons! Bravo and many blessings to you and all those you care for. (I did add a center layer of 3M Filtrete filter for extra protection; the simplicity of this shape made that addition very easy.) Thanks again!

I'd love for you to explain how you added the filter! I'm a novice sewer and I've been searching comments to try and figure out how to add a filter pocket to this. Thanks.
@gwynngriffin35084 жыл бұрын
@@blueleafblueleaffarmsllc1898 Hi, Stephanie :) To be fair, what I added isn't a pocket in the sense that with filter pockets I've made before, the filter is removable and replaceable. For this pattern, I simply cut a piece of the Filtrete smaller than the seam allowances and placed it so it would become a middle layer. It doesn't even require stitching it to the other two layers; it actually makes the pleating too thick if you cut the filter the same size as the back and front. But it stays in place just fine as a "free" layer. You can even tuck it inside after you've turned the mask right side out. Hope this helps!

Good idea. I am getting this red mark where the metal piece at the top of the mask rubs against top of my nose. I thought about creating a soft extra casing for this bit but your idea is even better still. But, even with the vertical pleats, I still would do a bit of gathering or insert some shirring or hat elastic to have the sides sit more snugly against the face. So less air can get in on the sides. I've been considering the balaclava mask idea. It would give the best cover is correctly designed. With the added benefits of keeping your entire face warm in cold conditions or keeping face from burning in hot sun, like in Australia in summer. The summer version could be of washable light fabric but three layers around mouth and nose area. The winter version could be of knitted acrylic or wool etc fabric with a removable cotton or similar washable lighter fabric in three layers, for the mouth and nose covering. This could be removed and washed daily, no need to wash the rest of the covering as often. Less virus could get in with such a versatile mask. The only drawback is people not able to recognise their friends, which is also a problem now, in their masks we are all required, by law, to wear here.

Would love to see measurements for various sizes, I’ll have to learn more about you tube to find them and whatever other videos you’ve made, as I only know that channels exist here but not how to find or navigate them:) I’ll be trying this out tomorrow and since it’s all based on a rectangle I can try different sizes and wing the corners. Thank you. This is a great design, effective and comfortable without a nose wire. I’ve just made two.

Tim - what a great tutorial. I started making octagon masks, since I needed something easy to talk with, and I really like them, but they’re SO time consuming. I’m going to give these a try. Thank you!

I just found your channel tonight and I'm so glad I did! This mask is great and I need to make a few for myself and others too. It seems to be much easier to make than the other kind I was making. I'm a quilter, so I have a LOT of really cool fabric to choose from. After watching this video, I subscribed and hit the bell.

Well done! I find this mask better than the regular ones. My glasses prefer your style over any other style. No more steam. 🤓 Thank you, definitely my fave mask.👍 😘

Search “silicone cord locks’’ to find the doohickies on the big online retailer (or probably on other smaller online retailers too!). Loved this video. Your teaching style is so easy to watch.

Just to give you the up to date info here in Canada we are advised to use 3 layers now. I must say I have made one of these already from another video, but yours was much easier to get the same result. As a lady, I added lace on both sides and around the nose and get lots of compliments.
