Gents thank you for you video. I am starting my 1st adjusting company in the St. Maarten, in the Caribbean. I'm nervous as one can possible be but excited to be a free from the 9-5 hustle and bustle. Your stories made me laugh with the roof, and flees LOL. I did adjusting on Irma claims as a staff adjuster and experienced similar clients. Looking out for more videos.

I'll start training for a Remote Desk Adjuster next week in Texas after 25 years as a Chemical Plant Operater. Is there any training online that can help me in that area. Their going to train me but, I want to be ahead of it if possible. This is the first time I've ever changed my career. Thanks Cordell
@allanfreeman6131
@allanfreeman6131 2 жыл бұрын
Let them train you, there is so much to know (not every company uses the same software programs), you won't retain all the information up front and will be asking questions for a long time. If you want to do some online research, start learning materials and how a house/car is built depending on which you plan to do. In my opinion, you can be a better desk adjuster having worked in the field for a few years, but that is not possible for everyone. Just don't be afraid to ask questions.

If you have a drone and are FCC Part 107 licensed, it doesn't hurt, the iPad is great for writing estimates and labeling photos in the field. I did it for several years before becoming a desk adjuster. Lidar is good for the apps that can scan an entire room, however, those apps are quite up to par yet, best to take photos with a camera (you will get lots of comments about cameras-just learn how to take the best photos possible whichever you choose).

@@joeldude76 It is nice getting to work from home, however, I do miss traveling. The hours are more consistent, save a lot of money on gas (especially right now) and don’t have to deal with traffic, but there is not as much freedom to run errands or whatever you like to do during the day. It is easier on my knees, but a little worse on the mid-section (lol). I do like having weekends off.

Would I need to buy a truck to do this kinda work? You said something about seeing a guy with a truck and a ladder and that seems like it would be a necessity
@AdjusterTV
@AdjusterTV 2 жыл бұрын
You don't need a truck. I always tell newer folks to use what they have - maybe put a little money into it if they have to for tune-ups, etc - but don't buy a truck just to carry a big ladder. You can absolutely get away with running claims in a car with a folding ladder in the trunk or on a hitch carrier or even with 24 ft extension ladder on a luggage rack on the roof. Later, when you're making the big bucks and you've decided this work is for you, then maybe consider a vehicle upgrade (keeping in mind fuel costs).

Hello Matt I've been watching your channel on KZbin and appreciate all your info. I've been a property field staff adjuster for about 5 years and am looking to move to the IA world. I set up an llc so I can write off my business expenses, hotel, fuel, etc. As I started to apply to get on some IA firm rosters I noticed that Renfro and Pilot have you as a w2 employee and not 1099. From what I understand being a w2 employee o would not be able to write off these expenses? Is that correct?
@lawlessimagery408
@lawlessimagery408 2 жыл бұрын
I work with Pilot, and they offer both 1099 and w2 depending on what side of the company you work. I work under AOD, and they only offer 1099. As a w2 employee you cannot write much off, you cannot write off hotels, tools or vehicles to my understanding. I am not a CPA nor a tax professional. That all being said I hire both a CPA and a bookkeeper, you must also look into how to set up the taxes as an LLC or an S-Corp and this depends on how much you net at the end of the year. I would recommend being a 1099, but keep in mind you will have more to handle and people to hire as well.
