The Adler is hands down the best splitting tool I’ve ever owned

Do you have a Fiskars splitting axe by any chance? If so, do you like the Adler more?

@@MatthewAmsbaugh totally agree

@ the Adler does better work on bigger, tougher stuff. Seriously impressed me. Love the fiskars though. It’s tough and works well.

I really enjoy it as well so far. The head is very similar to the fiskars. The heel curves down more. I guess that’s where the name Adler comes in. I learned that Adler means “eagle” in German. It seems to work maybe even a little better than the fiskars for large rounds, down the middle. I’m not sure that I will favor it over the fiskars for the style of splitting I do though. As far as splitting from angles goes. I plan to try it soon. I’m thinking the extra weight and shorter handle will actually not do as well with that style but I may be wrong. It certainly has an edge over the fiskars for traditional splitting though! These are just my opinions and assessments so far. I really enjoy it and I’m thankful they sent it. You were the one that got me interested in it to begin with, Matt 🙏 and James spoke highly of it as well. I was confident it would be a great splitter with that head design! And it is indeed

I knew you'd never do it, but a small absurd part of my brain was convinced that cat wasn't walking away with that tail still attached.

😆 I was thinking similar things when I was editing it. I thought that people may get the wrong idea with a cat on a chopping block and me doing a review on a splitting axe lol

I'm a huge Fiskars fan but I like to swing different axes. I'm frugal so it hasn't been much, lol! I'd like to try a Helko Vario 2000. The smaller splitting head though. 3 1/4 pounds similar in weight to the Fiskars X25. I think it goes for $160.

Nice swing and strikes, too.😉👍

This really looks like an ideal splitting axe. Around 32" is perfect for me, the weight and head shape seem just about perfect as well. Sometimes I want just a tad more power than a Fiskars X25 offers, and this looks like just that. Can I ask where you got it and about what it cost?

They are made in Germany. Adler sent it to me to some reviews on and I’m very thankful for it! They are around $150 but they are very well made. They have a leather sheath that come with them and the handle has a metal over strike guard as well. If you plan to split a lot of wood, I don’t think you would be disappointed with it!

I've been doing a lot of research on splittingaxes, and the Adler is going to be just as good or a little better than the fiskar. This will be interesting with all your splitting experience on how these 2 axes rank .good bless 🙌

I think so as well 👍 I believe the Adler may be better for traditional splitting. For my style of splitting with no chopping block and splitting from angles, I don’t know that it will work better than the fiskars. I haven’t tried it for that style yet but I’m interested myself to see how it will do. For me, that style of splitting is what produces a lot of wood in a short amount of time. And the fiskars is perfect for it!

It really is so far, Michael 👍 I love the fiskars and for my style of splitting it’s my favorite I’ve used yet. I haven’t tried this one for that style of splitting yet but I intend to soon.

Nice properly sharpened blade will dplit anything. And the factory edge is intentionally not sharp, so folks can put a real edge of their choice on it. Same with knives.

The shape of the head is more important than a really sharp edge in my experience. I personally like a sharp edge that bites well and helps sever the stubborn bits of stringy wood like Elm, Hackberry, and Hickory though. In my experience, both is best. A sharp edge on a well shaped head like the Adler or Fiskars
@bluegrassoutdoors3 күн бұрын
The factory edge of the fiskars are extremely sharp. The edge of the Adler are fairly sharp as well. I agree that a fine point is important to penetrate the wood and then the wedge does the work after that. And the force you put behind it.
