WOW! As a professional graphic designer, photographer, and illustrator, I am SUPER excited about another great Adobe tool to add to my magic bag of digital tricks! I especially appreciate the fact that you can use your own art and objects, especially for animating. This is why professionals have to stop feeling threatened by new technology. I agree, having a basic knowledge is very important, you’ll be able to use these Ai tools in a better and even more creative way. Those extra knowledge you have will shine through the work you do. e.g. creating a character animation has a lot of principles important to know about. With that extra knowledge and experience how to use different tools and combine them in a creative way you’ll be able to create much better animations with Ai and that is what going to make the difference.

I’ve been really annoyed by the entire ai discussion. Thanks for doing a sane video that doesn’t tell artists and filmmakers their careers are over and about to be taken over by people who don’t know what they’re doing. This actually shows a path to how this tech can be integrated into a workflow and filling gaps rather than wholesale throwing out people with a deep knowledge and experience base. I wouldn’t use this tech to make an entire film, partly because I highly doubt mass audiences would accept fully ai storytelling, but I can see how for someone like me, who wants to make short films on the side and have extremely limited budgets, can use this to add shots to a timeline that add value to a story while not breaking your savings.

@rastercaster3 ай бұрын
A game changer for this type of tech in Firefly would be able to give a beginning image and ending image sample to complete in-between frames and have it integrate with a frame by frame animation software. Then have it trained to character drawings in a saved archive of your choosing (like a consistent reference "seed") so that AI artifacts are minimalized. The better archive you build for yourself, the less frames needed in between prompts and start/end images. Example: Start with having my character taking his first step on his left foot and another drawing of him landing on his right foot. The AI would finish the walk cycle animation. If you archive is built with various perspectives of your own character you have drawn and saved, you can get the software to animate more sophisticated movements and animations like a fighting sequence.

Thanks, Dave! This is SUCH a great compilation of what firefly can do! Amazing! My question for you- you mention that some of the scenes (from Sushi delivery future-scape spot) took about an hour to create. Obviously, there has to be a ton of preproduction and thought (ie what is the right prompt to get the desired look) has to go in there BEFORE the “one hour and you have your scene” delivery. What is a more accurate time frame and expectation for creating a short like the one you made? How many hours did it take you? *asking because now employers everywhere will expect a short film in 8 hours if they watch this.
@okaysamurai3 ай бұрын
Thanks! I estimated 10 hours total because there's a total of 10 scenes, so an hour per scene - I did it over a weekend a few weeks back. But yes, it was the culmination of using the tools quite a lot, understanding what did and didn't work with prompts, and a lot of Photoshop and After Effects work. I also purposefully chose a simply flying character without a mouth to make it easier to maneuver, so different characters would be more difficult - the video game samurai character in the segment before it probably took the most iterations to figure out how to walk, get the cape movement, have the sword not bend, etc. So there are a lot of variables depending on the character and story!

Nothing to announce yet. I think AI tools will get better with lip sync and character emotion, but it's definitely not ready for primetime yet. If you are making 2D animated cartoons, tools like CH/AN/AE are far and away better right now for giving you control. I also think AI assistants will definitely help with processes like rigging in the future, but those kind of specializations are probably a ways off as well. Personally I would be curious and explore AI tools with a healthy skepticism, and see how they can fit into your existing workflows rather than drop one side entirely.
