Intel's media engine has always been amazing, even discrete GPUs from Nvidia and AMD cant keep up with its pound for pound performance. So im glad to see Intel is continuing to improve the media engine with Xe2 and not just wait for competition to catch up.

That's actually great! I think it's a very good idea to partner with Adobe and Sony to optimize this kind of high demanding workflows. I hope to see further collaborations with other giants of the video industry such as RED and Blackmagic (for DaVinci Resolve) to extract the maximum from their files trough hardware encoders inside dedicated graphic cards and iGpus. Lunar Lake seems a really great architecture, i'm looking forward to see the first reviews later this month, keep it up Intel!

Hoping to see similar or better decode performance with Battlemage gpus once those release!

This is Battlemage architecture, just not in a hpg high-power hardware unit but an integrated tile as part of their LL laptop SoC line.

@Zxanonblade It's practically a given. I'm more hopeful that they fixed their dGPU power consumption with Battlemage, particularly at idle. If they have, I definitely want to get the Battlemage equivalent of the A310 for my ryzen nas/media server

I wonder why they're comparing software decode against hardware decode, and not comparing previous generation hardware decode to the new hardware decode ... Intel iGPUs on mobile processors have supported hardware encode and decode for over a decade. Hardware support for H.265 decode has been on their mobile processors since Braswell architecture launched in 2015, and encode was added with Skylake in 2016.

It is about AV1 decoders. intel is known for their best h/w decoders and encoders for a very long time. My CPU handles H.265 better than my GPU.

For marketing of course. They want to show the 5x performance increase and 3x efficiency increase or whatever with hardware acceleration on vs off, when that is not even a comparison.

I think they're talking about Quick sync. Quicksync is rather fast despite it being a thing that's normally processor side. @ChuckNorris-lf6vo

Wow Lunar Lake even could render 8K video with iGPU alone. You can't even do that on macbook m4, qualcomm elite x or amd strix point. Intel surely make the best chip to destroy competition !

What are you talking about? Base M2 can edit 8k.

ARM has too many compatability issues, and if they are able to beat their ARM competition on x86, then I don't see why they have to switch to ARM.
