Topic suggestion- what the first few days, weeks, months looks like when adoption a kiddo. What can you do to help the bond, support them in their losses, etc

I agree! This would be great info to have and so helpful for adjusting. Also, on the same topic, helping the kids you may already have to be prepared for welcoming a new sibling.

My top tip: if the child is small enough to fit in a tula carrier or tula toddler carrier, then baby wear them everywhere you go and even around the house. Next top tip: nest (or cocoon ). You don't leave the house or have visitors, you don't bring any new people into the child's world for a month or two or three. And when you do you make it clear to the child that they are coming home with you - even make plans like, after we see grandma we will play dolls in your room. If the child is under two, and maybe older, absolutely consider them sleeping in your room or in your bed (as long as this isn't tied to trauma for them). Bonding takes time but schedule, structure, routine, predictablilty and consistency are key. Firm but fair discipline is as must too.

I'm from Brazl and my mom has been working with adoption for over 30 years. Let me tell you what I know about adoption in Brazil. - the whole process is FREE. - there's no foster system. - there's no open adoption. - the birth mom can't choose who will adopt her kid. - you can be single or lgbtq. - you fill a form, go trough a home and psychological study then get in the line. If you want a baby under 1 year old, the waiting takes 8 to 10 years. - if you want to adopt an older kid/kids it's faster. - siblings avaible for adoption will not be separeted. - Brazil is open for international adoption, but you will have to live here for 9 month after getting your kid. - when an adopted kid is 18 they can have access to all the information about their birth parents if they want to.

My "Aunt" (a family friend of my actual aunt who I grew up spending a lot of time with) is single and no longer wanted to wait for "the one" to come around so she pursued adoption from Kazakhstan. Her work actually covered half the expenses. She was very blessed. She traveled there and stayed with the child for 6-ish weeks before bringing the babe (was not even a year old) home. My cousin is now 15 and the smartest, most compassionate, sweet, tender hearted, loving person I have ever met!

I love how many experiences you bring into this. Already in the last video, you mentioned something was rare and you still knew multiple families in that situation. You know other people who are single parents adopting, same sex couples adopting, people with children adopted in birth order, from all sorts of different countries, with embryo adoption, who homeschool..... Important disclaimer: Apparently this goes for same-sex parent adoption from citizens, not international applicants!!!! For the question about same sex parent adoption: I researched a little and found a map and most of Central and western Europe, North America and Australia allow it, as well as some South American countries including Brazil and Argentina and South Africa. Unfortunately, the rest of Africa and all of Asia aren't on the list. But most of these legislations are young and have only happened in the last ten, most even three years, so the situation might be different a couple years from now and if you were to adopt in, say, a decade chances are good you might have more options.

Brazil allows adoption from same sex couples. In Brazil there are no agency or state fees either, so the cost would go down to a lawyer in Brazil and an agency in the US. The downside is that you have to live in Brazil for six weeks.

Thank you for these videos! I started watching your channel some time ago for the homeschool videos and then was quickly pulled in when I realized your heart for adopting. I have felt a burning desire to adopt for a few years now and it keeps growing. My kids all want to (we have 4 boys) but my husband has been resistant to it. I've just kept praying over the situation and he is slowly warming to the idea and has begun asking questions and thinking about it more. He says he isn't opposed to the idea any longer, but there is still a lot to think through and figure out before we jump in. He's right of course, but his heart is being prepared and I'm very excited about that.

Dearest Angie--- you are amazing and so inspirational! I am a single woman and felt called to adopt a daughter (or son) from an Asian country, most likely (special needs) from China. A Thai child was on my heart, but sadly there was a marriage requirement at the time for that country (and so few adoptions are done with US families.) Most relieving... I was thrilled when I heard that Vietnam was going to open up adoption with the US again. Anyhow, I was so invested, that I even chose my employer based on their benefit package that included a 5k donation for every adoption. Sadly, I was in a hit-and-run car accident in 2006 that left me with constant agonizing pain to the face. In fact, it triggered Trigeminal Neuralgia which is considered the worst pain known to mankind. It's been 12 years that I've suffered with this intractable pain, so my dream of adopting a child waiting had to end. However my interest in international adoption continues...and I'm so excited to hear your perspective and witness your beautiful children as they grow. Every waiting little one deserves a loving home...with the many loving, waiting families on hold to embrace them. God bless you and all who save a child. Lastly, I LOVE your channels -- thank you for sharing your life, family, and knowledge.

Love your channel and the way you explain to the point and clear information , thank you for sharing. I've been happily married close to 4 years in November. we don't have any kids but due to my age I'm scared to have my own kids (im 30 btw, my motto is "why have a baby when there are so many babies waiting for a family" *but i respect those who decide to have their own babies) I would love to adopt a newborn baby that can grow with us and give them a loving home. But i know not much to nothing about the system and difference between domestic adoptions vs foster care. I know it can be very expensive to adopt through a private adopting agency. And I've heard that it can be very difficult to adopt a newborn baby through foster care (it may take years to make it official) and also have heard that foster babies have gone through a lot of trauma and it may be difficult for the adoptive parent to deal with drug withdrawal or abuse etc. How long in advance should we be able to get a placement through foster care vs. domestic adoption agency?? can you choose your race or gender (not that it matters to me, but would prefer them to look like us for different reasons) .. husband is open to adoption but fears that the child will have alot of physiological/health problems due to the misconceptions about foster care (mistreating/drug abuse etc) i would like to clarify a couple of things so he understands better & i would like to know which type of adoption will be best for us. if it's for foster and then adoption and in the US, I know from Ohio laws that it's best if the dog has obedience training. We have 3 dogs, and was able to foster our daughter and then adopt her a year later.

When we looked into same-sex International adoption, the majority of countries either don't allow or if they do it is only for hard to place children. The only international country that gave the options to same-sex couples as heterosexual was South Africa.

Almost all the kids available for adoption in South Korea are in foster homes. Orphanages are rarely used there😊

I don't know whether they still do international adoptions but South Africa has legalized same sex relationships, and I know some same sex couples have adopted from there in the past. And I think Taiwan has just legalized same sex marriage, I don't know what that means for adoption or if they even allow international adoption. I know there are also some countries in South America that have legalized same sex relationships/adoptions. I think, off the top of my head, that Colombia, Brazil and some parts of Mexico allow same sex adoption but I am not 100% sure.

For closed adoption domestic in the US i dont think mama’s choose you but the agency does. I’m not sure though. I’m adopted in the US as a baby and my biological grandparents did know some about my new home, I’m not sure how they knew.

Interesting video. I would be wary of adopting a domestic child here in the UK simply because as a teacher, I can see daily how 'difficult' children with a traumatic infancy (neglect, abuse, abandonment or attachment issues) can be like. By the time they are available to adoption, such damage is done that there is little foster or adoptive parents can do to help them. The challenge is real. Of course, these children are absolutely lovely and deserving of love. Of course they can defy all such predictions and grow to be happy. But my fiancé, who has worked as a social worker in a children home, and who can hardly be accused of being heartless, is against adoption as a result of his experience.

Dayanara Diaz I believe that its where the adoption agency visits your home and assesses your home and lifestyle and finances etc to make sure you are fit to bring a child home! From what Angie said it seems like every country/agency may have different requirements. I have been watching Nikki Philippi too and she said some of her homestudies have involved detailed medical questionaries too. Looking forward to the video where Angie explains in detail :)
