6 months ago, I lost my Welsh father to cancer. His brother, my uncle, sent me this song a month later. I listen to and think of them both. My father was my home.

Thank you, DistantDreamer93. All of the singers you suggested are wonderful. I couldn't miss the dobro or pedal steel backup in this song, more typically a fixture in American country music, but it's so effective here. Anyway, I'd rather listen to songs like this. Few country songs appeal to me. It's wonderful that you are such a strong advocate of the music of your country. I'm impressed and admire your dedication, because I know how carrying that weight could become a burden. Dydd Da.

Dear Gwyneth, As an American I am compelled to write you about my Welsh ancestry. About a month ago I did an internet search and was able to trace my direct roots to Rowland Ellis from Dolgellau, Wales. I have become consumed learning about Wales. I found you and your songs on KZbin. I am very touched by your song Adra it is very moving and has a special meaning. I feel connected to my Welsh roots listening to the song. Someday I hope to visit, Dolgellau, the place my Great (10x removed) Grandfather had to leave from religious persecution. The valley nestled at the base of Cader Idris was said to be the place Galahad received his vision solving his quest for the Holy Grail. I am sure it was more than hard to leave this place of beauty, his home, and start anew in the Americas.... 'Does unman yn debyg I Adra', medda' nhw wrtha fi. David Wade Ellis

I'm pleased to hear this but remember that despite your ancestry you're not welsh and trying to pass your self off as welsh will offend many in the valleys that I'm proud to call home. If you're going to visit then learn welsh as it will help you with road signs etc.

cân hyfryd - cofiwch rhoi'r to bach ar y geiriau Cymraeg! ;-) Just a quick note, this is a beautiful song and as Gwynedd is from the North, some of the words are said the way they'd say in the North, and, as Welsh is written phonetically, the words are written as they're said. So, "adra" = adref, in standard Welsh - home, they'd say "adre" in the South, "cartref" is the full form; 'sgin = does gen i (I don't have); "fa'ma" - fan yma (this place here, here). chdi = you (singular, familiar), usually 'ti' for other Welsh speakers. The differences aren't big at all, easy for all speakers to understand. It's great in Welsh that people are free and confident to write and sing using their own words, sometimes in English language songs there seems to be some mid-Atlantic concensus or norm which people sing in - we don't have that in Welsh!
