That's why I am in my world and only work, go home, done! Never listen, everytime people gossip around me, I zone out. I say nothing to the person who is being talked behind their back, because It would mean that I take sides. Small talk? Nope, small talks are dangerous, because everytime it starts with the weather, it will end up with gossips. If people say Hi to you everyday, just smile back and say Hi, then go do your work, don't linger!

These are great rules on how to avoid office gossip. Workplace gossip is the worst. I've been on both sides of it; I've had rumours spread about me but I've also talked badly about others. One time, I was talking to one of my coworkers about how another lady we worked with was so over dramatic, and I turned it around by later coming back and telling that coworker that I was going to give the lady another chance. Having compassion and realizing that there is two sides to every story makes all the difference!

Just don’t talk to anyone at work when you don’t have to (unless you’re actually friends with them). I feel like nurses have a good reason to befriend each other (because it’s very much community-based and nurses in general are of a very respectable, down-to-Earth disposition) but if you work in an office your co-workers generally shouldn’t be anything like friends. Ditto for housemates/random acquaintances you don’t actually vibe with like that. People in general talk far too much and if you give them a reason to have dirt on you in those closed environments, they’ll utilise that opportunity with the most peculiarly-ready alacrity. They ain’t got no chill when it comes to disrespecting and violating the personal space and privacy of the people around them. It’s not something they value highly by default nature. They have to be told specifically to control their tongues and not gossip about unassuming co-workers they barely know, otherwise they’ll just fabricate and babble away.

I just wanted to know, that if we talk with coworkers about topics like hobbies, does that also count as gossip, I mean what is good and bad, should we talk only about work??
@AdrianaGirdler3 жыл бұрын
First let’s start with the definition of gossip…. casual or unconstrained conversation or reports about other people, typically involving details that are not confirmed as being true…..it’s ok to talk about life at work, like hobbies, family, shows you are watching. It’s not ok when we spread rumours that are not true as this hurts people (aka gossip). So chat away but be respectful and if you don’t know details to be true, then don’t talk about. Treat people the way you want to be treated and it usually works out.
