I have one rule, don't expose yourself to any toxic person. Just imagine having a boss that no matter what you do it isn't right. I had to put a boss in his place because he didn't know what he wanted as his mind constantly was changing and nothing I could do was right no matter what T I followed. Everyone on the team felt equally frustrated. After a year of dealing with this toxic asshole and on my final day when I gave my resignation as I had a job lined up I asked him, "Do you think support, encouragement and gratitude are important attributes for a successful managers should have?" I then handed him my resignation and walked out. A month later another key person on his team left as well. My current boss now is a great guy to work with and my job is once again enjoyable.

I don't exactly know what you been through. But I had an experience before. Being a newbie, I made lot of mistakes in my reports. That was very frustrating. Working in a bank, you need to assure everything is correct up to the last cents. I'm not to blame because being new to the report means you need help from your boss on how to do everything. But my boss is a type who give less instructions. It was like, "how can I do this.job right with little instruction" and your limiting conversation with them because you feel toxic with them... Your job will literally be easy with proper guidance. You ended up being blame for all the mistakes. This days were challenging. Yeah, it leave me some kind of trauma and a lesson to be equipped with knowledge. These will always remind me, "This is hard but I have to adopt, get all necessary skills to make myself better on my work". I'm here also to remind all young professionals. This is the right time to enjoy life and also to equipped yourself with knowledge. That's why I'm here always for some tips😊

Reminds me of a manager I went to for advice on a bad boss saying "have you tried talking them about it" 😂 If you go to death row in jail you will find a lot of innocent men or say they will tell you. A bad boss doesnt just stop being a bad boss because you are nice to them, or talk to them or work hard. A bad boss is at their core an unhappy person. And like a drowning person they will drag you down with them if you try to help. The only thing you can do is save yourself and let them sink.

I don't care how busy a manager or colleague is they should not be talking to you like that. People seem to be condoning toxic behaviour as normal. I know I am good at my job. The manager has no clue how my job works to advise me on how to do it. You get told off for things without being asked what happened. Even striking employees about working conditions are being told they didn't know there was a problem. Just stick your head in the sand. I was doing a great job until this manager came along. Poke it popeye I've got a new job.

Excellent tips...over the years I used all your tips (including documenting) and learned to live with it.... on the other hand...happiness is the key. People quit their jobs not because of the company, it is only because of the difficult boss they have to deal with it everyday. In fact, "dealing" with a difficult boss everyday is not good for your mental health...you bring home everyday on the kind of things you had to deal with at work. So, my advise is try to be happy...find another way. You cant control to change the boss, but you can control what you can do. You dont have to deal with the difficult boss everyday. Find another job and quit!! Belive me, just the action of quitting itself will bring happiness to you!!

Know what's important to your boss - if not clear, book one on one meetings. 3. Don't try to fix your boss - understand their behaviours and patterns and adjust yours to theirs. 4. Stay aligned with your vision and goals - who are you and what do you want. 5. Put yourself in their shoes - It's not about you it's about them. [My own insert here - change how your boss perceives your personality by focusing on them.] 6. I just don’t understand how you can combine 4 and 2. How can you stay true to your values and at the same time adjust yourself to your boss patterns. These two do not match.
@AdrianaGirdler Жыл бұрын
When you adjust to your bosses patterns it is NOT at the expense of your values. If that is the case you need to evaluate the situation and decide which is more critical to you and move forward from their.

My boss is weirdly competitive with me. I know him a long time, so I know how he thinks, so for example if I'm late with an assignment, I usually know when to write him to confirm I'm indeed working on it and will send it in few hours. So he knows I didn't forget. Most other people I worked for ususlly responded with "OK" when I did this - my current boss responds with things like "telepathy, I was just about to write to you" to sort of establish he is ahead of me and in control of the situation. It's really weird.

Tips for Dealing with a Difficult boss: 1. Focus on your Job, make sure to are doing what you are supposed to be doing Accurately. 2. Know what is Important to your boss. Physco 101, if a micro manager, make sure your boss understands that you know your job. 3. Don't try to correct your boss. Never try to change a BOSS or micromanager, that is their way of managing. a. Understand their behavior and patterns so you do no feed into it. Adjust your behavior too not feed into more negativity. 4. Stay Aligned with your Values and Vision and Goals. Stay true to who you are, you cannot control other people. 5. Put yourself in their shoes. See the pressure they are under. They may be very busy themselves, and some just have quirks. 6. Take another Look at how you're approaching things. You may be misjudging your boss, do not point the fingers. Is there some validity to their accusations, am I performing? Bonus Tip: Document the H_ll out of everything and meetings. Show the proof that you boss is after you...and doing wrong things on your behalf.

I work in a classroom as a teacher’s aid and my boss (the teacher) is totally inconsistent with her expectations of the classroom rules and gets mad at me when I let the kids do something that she was allowing them to do the day before. In addition, the always gives me “suggestions” but never actually spends one on one time with the special needs kids herself. Suggestions from a distance that don’t help.
@AdrianaGirdler3 жыл бұрын
I can see how this can be very frustrating for you but for the kids as well. As we all know children need structure to learn and grow. Maybe you can schedule a time to chat with her about your concerns. If that is to no avail then document if you feel it need to be shared with the VP. Outside of that you may want to see if you can transfer to a new class the next school year. Wishing you the best as I can only imagine how frustrating this is for you. Cheers!

My supervisor has a "fix it yourself" attitude--if I ask her any questions, she's very curt and won't give much information. I've caught her lying to me about things in the past because she didn't want to directly come out and tell me she had an issue with the way I did something. Then, when the workflow does mess up, she always takes her angst out on me. I see her laughing and carrying on with other employees, but the moment I step in her direction, she's bone silent.

How do you know if your boss is overly critical or just trying to get rid of you? And how do people really deal with this every day? I’m the one constantly reminding him, he has ADD, yet he is constantly on top of me when I think I’m bringing my A game. I’m exhausted.

A good boss is truly supportive and protective of you. Any action shown outside of those qualities is toxic. Many, unfortunately are out to get you and keep a “file” (negative, only) on you. Going through this now. He wants me to ask questions. He’s vague in his instructions, so when I ask a question, he takes it as insubordination and notes it in his file. Yet he says he wants you to ask questions!! Brings up those points at evaluation time and indeed keeps a folder anytime he feels dissed. I’ve never had a boss like that. If they kept a file, I never knew about it and they never brought it up.

This has been really helpful. You're right. I just have to focus on my job/work and stick to my values. And it helps a lot because we are currently working from home so I don't have to see him at all. My boss has been unsympathetic to many employees. For him, reasons are no different from excuses although they were urgent. He couldn't care less at all. So, I'm learning how not to care about what he says and just focus on my job. He's the kind of boss that is generous with criticisms but stingy when it comes to appreciation.

If you're doing the best you can and show your boss respect, do not tolerate disrespect from your boss. I once had a female boss that did that and I basically turned into a landmine just waiting to be stepped on. One day she stepped on the landmine and I told her to go eff herself because it's obvious her husband isn't and I walked off. She was speechless. As I was walking away I shouted "You're doing great at shutting up for once, keep it up!"

I think everyone has had a difficult boss at one point in their life if they have been around for any amount of time. Taking a walk around to the other side and putting yourself in their shoes can really help to at least understand the situation and if you can have a positive effect on the that or deciding it is time to move on.

Well just a part-time job, at a grocery store, my immediate supervisor would wrestle/horseplay near the customer service counter with an underling and neither just understood why it is inappropriate behavior. After running thru the store heirarchy, I filed a complaint with the district hr manager so not sure if he is pissed because he cannot good off or feels like I stabbed him in the back. He spends a chunknof time watching videos while up front near the self-checkout counter.

I'm 15 months from retirement. My boss doesn't care how many hours the team members work to get the work/goals accomplished, but then in the same breath, tells everyone that family comes first. In fact, he said in an unnecessary team meeting, "if you have to come in 2 hours early and stay 4 hours late to get your work done, so be it, I'm not moving your goals!". Of late, 12 hours a day is not uncommon. I'm tired. This video (and others like it) will help me get to my ultimate goal without quitting early. Thank you!
