Preparation is key - never go into a meeting without having done your prep. And I HATE being late for anything. I usually arrive 30 mins early and sit in the carpark until it is meeting time :)

I agree with being prepared. I started with no preparation and flunked on some meetings. I also come in super early. I rather be early than late. I just sit in my car sometimes.
@AdrianaGirdler6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing your personal experiencing with this, QSI Social ! Totally agree - Once you've committed to attending a meeting, it's important to review the agenda and what's expected of you. This gives you time do any prep work that may be required. Been there, done that with the sitting in the car :-) but it's way better than being late!

I'm preparing for VidSummit Conference in LA next week so preparing some business cards. Any tips on networking?
@AdrianaGirdler6 жыл бұрын
Sounds like an awesome conference to attend! I'd love to hear what you learned in one of your future videos. As for networking, thanks for the question, I'll add it to my list as a future topic to cover. Until then, I'd say the same tips apply from this meeting video. 1) arrive at the sessions early; that's a great time to meet new people 2) participate in conversations 3) have phone etiquette (you can't meet new people if your heads down looking at your phone). Enjoy your conference. Cheers!

Very true. Participation matters. I worked intern with an Accounting firm and my boss asked me to tag along for taxation advising meeting with a client. I haven't even participated. I felt so guilty about it after I got back to the office.

Meetings for me have to have little fun in them, and one thing i have observed and learned. Younger staff need multi-sensory meetings, or tactile stuff to help keep them engaged. Do you find that true as well?
@AdrianaGirdler6 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, Rich! No one wants to spends hours in a boring meeting. I try to zap as much fun into them as possible. I always bring toys when facilitating (play-do, balls, turny tops, rubiks cubes, ect) - I also encourage people to stand if they need to, whatever participants need to do to remain engaged is the most important element really. Cheers!

I always hate seeing people on their phone. What's the point of the meeting if you're going to be on your phone. It's rude and shows you have something else more important going on. I use to speak up all the time when I started some new jobs and felt like everyone thought I was the young one and ignored me. On day I got tired of it and then one day I quit and never went back :(
@AdrianaGirdler6 жыл бұрын
Yup, cell phone use hurts in-person interactions, and is a conversation killer for those sitting right in front of you. Even if the meeting is boring, it's never a good time to pull out your cell phone. Thanks for sharing your personal experience. Cheers!
