John Lennon had 2 half-sisters. After his dad (Alfred Lennon) left, his mother Julia was not coping and was forced by her family to give John up for adoption. Her sister Mimi took him in. Later, Julia got together with 'Bobby' Dykins and they had 2 daughters: Julia (interviewed here) and Jackie. John started seeing his mother again (and got to know his sisters) when he was about 11 and would stay over sometimes. She taught him some banjo. But she was killed by a car when he was 17.

Of course this would be impossible if, as stated as fact, the latter is her biological father. @Ernest_Thesiger2 жыл бұрын
@@kw4224 I can't work out what I wrote to give you the impression that I didn't know that. Anyway, to make myself clear - It is stated as fact that Julia Baird's biological parents are Julia Lennon(John's mother) and John Dykins but I think she looks a bit like John's dad Alfred in this video, who was with John's mother Julia in Blackpool nine months before Julia Baird was born. Therefore, I am suggesting there's a chance that John's parents didn't just argue with each other whilst in Blackpool and Julia Baird is Alfred's daughter rather than John Dykins' daughter.

Yes there is a huge resemblence there. You can tell straight of that she is an educated teacher type. Middle class? Paul used to say that out of the Beatles John was actually the middle class one, it seems that the Lennon family were smart cookies and did well at school. Apart from Ringo all the beatles passed the notoriously difficult 11 plus exam which basically dictated the path you were to follow in life. If you passed you went to an academic Gammer school which was the route to university. So it could be said that John, Paul and George were destined to become middle class. I find it unfair that so many people get the meaning to John's wonderful working class hero song wrong. They think he is portraying himself as a working class and he is the hero of them. Of course he was a hero to all classes. The point about the song is that the song is not about him, it's an observation on society and in the crucial line, "if you want to be a hero follow me" he is not saying I am the leader of the working classes he is just saying open your eyes to what's going on, just like I am doing in writing this song.

Not everybody reacts to death in the same way.
@FreeBrunoPowroznik11 ай бұрын
@@RuthvenMurgatroyd My point was: he didn't ask how it affected her, or at the very least how it affected the both of them; rathee, he tactlessly said to her: you don't count, just your famous brother. And whilst granted it is an interview about her brother, it's too delicate a subject question to only enquire about her brother's response.
@RuthvenMurgatroyd11 ай бұрын
@@FreeBrunoPowroznik She is being interviewed for a book she wrote about her brother hence it seems strange to insult the interviewer for not asking more questions about her when she herself "made it about her brother" so-to-speak and that is what audiences are interested in after all (not, I'm sure, that there isn't a significant portion of the audience interested to learn more about Lennon's half-sister). Yes, I see your point and while that would have been nice, it's clear that he didn't offend her so I would argue that he wasn't wrong or emotionally unintelligent for not asking her about her feelings given the context of the interview in the first place. Plus it doesn't seem like the programme has that much time anyway.
@FreeBrunoPowroznik11 ай бұрын
@@RuthvenMurgatroyd I admire your patience in taking the time to defend Wogan's emotional intelligence in spite of the fact I already pre-empted your argument about the context. With regards to your strawman about being offended: If you listen to her reply, it is pretty clear that she is somewhat offended, as she affirms that they ALL were affected and lists their ages, almost as if to say it was worse for us, what with me still being a child (11) another sibling younger than I and John being pretty much an adult (17). The time factor is a poor argument also, because she answered how it affected them ALL quite quickly even though he didn't ask and it would have not taken any longer to substitute the word "all" for "John" in asking the question.
@reddevil95543 ай бұрын
I'm not sure why Wogan would ask her if she thought John was gay or not. He has a rare opportunity to talk to the sister of one of the most famous men who's ever lived, and he asks her stupid questions like that. I'm sure John was at least bi-curious, and it wouldn't even matter today, but back then (1988) anything like that was still being commonly used as a slur. Julia does look a lot like John. John looks a lot like his father, but there was clearly a lot of his mother in there too with him looking so much like his sister.

So, you can't call someone your sister, even though she's your sister, just because you have one parent that's different? You always have to say "half-sister"? You know what? I've called people my uncle and aunt even though technically they were my dad's cousins. Shock! Horror!

@@utekrause8334 "Half" is a useful term if you want to explain the relationship. My point was just that you don't have to state "half" just because a sibling is half. Same goes for "step". I'm not going to always call my step-brother my step-brother. It's perfectly fine and normal to just call him my brother. However, if I want to clarify the relationship, I would use "step".
