Everything about this is uncanny and mesmerizing. The way Adriano moves and his general demeanor make him appear dorky, but extremely cool at the same time. The way it's hard to tell if this is a lecture or a recital. The sheer enthusiasm of everyone involved. And especially, the sense that all of it is perfectly logical to them and that we're the only ones that don't know what's happening here.

Remember, he’s not mimicking English speakers he’s mimicking specifically 70’s American soul music and how it sounded in general to some. A lot of Americans thought the slang in soul music was gibberish and that’s what this song is (think James Brown).

I first heard this on the Rush Limbaugh radio show. All we could get was a VHS-quality copy of the video. Then I saw a high res version but couldn’t find it later. It's funny to see so many non-Italians enjoying this masterpiece of the 70es, a true example of musical grammelot! It's 1972 (the video should be taken from a later period, as Italian TV switched to colour broadcasting in 1977), and the context in which this song was written (according to the Italian pronunciation of English words) is related to Celentano's well-known critics towards American and consumer oriented lifestyle of the Italian society after the Boom years (1955-1968). Here, Celentano and Claudia Mori (his wife) are for sure making fun of Italian people tendency to perform American songs without understanding a single word of what they're singing, but, in a broader sense, they're criticising the inability to communicate of mass society.
