@@user-pl2qe8jx3t Yeah, it's not hard to do the math. He was a bit over 4 at the beginning of the Saiyan saga. Vegeta and Nappa arrived a few weeks short of a year later. The weeks/months spent preparing for and getting to Namek seem somewhat negligable (you could probably split the difference with Vegeta and Nappa's earlier-than-expected arrival and say it's been one full year). Another year passes until Goku's return from Namek, and then 3 years until the Androids. So about 5 years total since the start of Z, added onto Gohan's initial age puts him at roughly 9-10. EDIT: Forgot to factor in the time chamber. So add another rough year, I guess he was 10-11 when he fights Cell.

Interestingly, this gave me an idea of why Gohan grew so quickly. Goku didn't start having battles and adventures until he was 12. Goten and Kid Trunks aged similarly to Goku, staying small and young looking until they were teens; and despite being super saiyans, they also haven't seen much action. Gohan, on the other hand, was adventuring and fighting grown ass alien men when he was 4. I mean people who were beating up the adults around him with relative ease. Gohan looking 14 at the age of 9 (when he fought Cell) may be an artistic choice, showing that he literally had to mature faster than other characters. More evidence is that Future Trunks is 14 when Gohan dies, and Goten and Trunks are 13/14 in the Tournament of Power arc. Big difference in lifestyle as well as appearance of both Trunks'.

In the 7th edition the timeline specifies GOhan age to be 10 during the Cell Games or close to 11 physically ( rounded up to 11 in the anime). 7y later Gohan's calendar age is 16 during the buu saga a week before his 17th calendar bday.

It contains anime filler as facts and even has bits of “info” that are contradicted when you actually read the manga itself. Its not written by Toriyama at all and him “acknowledging” it means nothing since he does this with every dragon ball related product. The title of “original author” doesn’t mean he wrote the books, it refers to him being the author of the manga. He gets this title in EVERYTHING even in something like Dragon Ball Evolution. Gohan was 9, the date you provided is something created by the anime and reiterated in the Daizenshuus which use anime filler as facts and get their “facts” contradicted just by reading the manga. You either didnt know the actual full details of these Daizenshuu’s or just did a basic google search of the topic because its pretty well known in the fandom that these things are unreliable

I think some of the confusion comes from his age being different in different versions of dbz. Some of the english versions would age him up 2 years. I don't remember how long they were on Namek but they were waiting for Goku to return from Namek for at least a year, making Gohan between 6 and 8. Then they train for 3 years, so he would be between 9/11. Then if you add the hyperbolic time chamber training, he ages a year in a day which would make him physically between 10 and 12.

The anime added in that he's 11 during filler however this causes confusion. Especially since the time skip to the Boo arc is 7 years and Toriyama wrote directly that he's 16 at that point which contradicts Toei's claim of him being 11. Going strictly by the Z anime (not Kai mind you, they removed the 11 year old reference and corrected his age of 16 in Final Chapters) He would be legally 17 and physically 18 in the Boo arc. Possibly legally 19 and physically 20 if Chichi meant his legal age, however that wouldn't make sense with him being in high school at that age.

Well, Cell Games took place 767, ten years after Gohan's birth in 757. Gohan also spent a year in the Room of Spirit and Time, so 7 years later in 774 he meets Videl at roughly 18 years old, aka Adult Gohan. The Cell Games Gohan is drastically different than kid Gohan and Adult Gohan, and he's mature for his age. Goku at 15 in Dragonball looked like a kid until he didn't 3 years later; The Tournament of Power is six years after Buu arc, and is in 780, so Trunks in DBS should be 14 like the History of Trunks special, but he still looks 8 and acts immature. So Teen Gohan sorta just works as well.

I met Kyle Herbert (English VA of Gohan from Boo Arc onwards) back in 2008 and he called his character "Teen Gohan". I've also done a quick google search and there are websites as old as 2012 interviewing Kyle Herbert on voicing "Teen Gohan". I'm pretty sure the only ones who refer to the Cell Arc Gohan as a teen are video games and that is just to separate him from the Saiyan Arc and Boo Arc skins. It takes 130 days to be able to reuse the Namekian dragonballs - which they wait for twice, that's 260 days - about 8 and 1/2 months. That would make Gohan 6 years old. It takes another year after that for Goku to return to Earth, which makes Gohan 7 years old. 3 years preparing for the Androids, he's then 10 years old. 1 year spent in the hyperbolic time chamber. He is then 11 years old. (Piccolo even mentions to Goku at the Cell games about Gohan being an 11 year old boy.) 7 years after the Cell games is when Buu arrives. 11+7= 18 years old. Gohan is 18 years old during the Majin Buu saga.
