William Gibson is one of the founders of cyberpunk genre. He also wrote the original script for Alien 3 which was adapted as a graphic novel. While he is listed as screenwriter for this movie, apparently, his script was changed and Gibson himself was not happy with how it turned out. The original short story was also very different. Funny enough, it still had drug-addicted cyborg dolphin.

I always think when people in movies go "uhhhh actually my own input specifically was incredible it was just changed for no reason and don't bother asking for evidence of the good version because there is none" it's a bit of a standard cop-out - would probably take it with a pinch of salt.
@diehard75172 жыл бұрын
@@videogamenostalgia studios cutting films down for no good reason is a common practice that keeps ruining movies to this day, so it's not exactly hard to believe. And when do studios keep original versions of the movie after cutting them heavily? Even Snyder Cut retained most of the original Justice League. I have also read Gibson's short fiction and know for a fact that he can be pretty weird and experimental with his writing, so i can totally see the studio deciding to make the script more mainstream in order to appeal to the mass market. Also, Gibson's original script for Alien 3 was declined for not being creative enough, so it's possible that he learned from this mistake and tried to experiment a bit, which was not something studio was interested in.

TBH, remember that Longo's film was literally stolen from him, he didn't get to direct a good chunk of it, the film was literally going to be a black and white low budget kind of 'anti-movie', but the studios desperately needed a summer blockbuster after deciding the one slotted was complete garbage, and since Keannu was popular after Speed, threw money at what was literally supposed to look more like Tetsuo the Iron-Man, (one of its 'inspirations' by Longo's words) into what we got. It was common for them to last for 10-30 minutes, when we would have to decide whether she needed an ambulance or not. Eventually we got some very strong medication that was for emergencies only. Overall the reality is seizures don'[t have a prescribed "Three minutes and you die" type thing going on. Some people have a small seizure lasting only seconds and sadly pass away and others can have a seizure lasting hours and walk away without issue, this includes an initial seizure scenario. sorry to go all "um acktually" on this but yeah I just heard this stuff so often and it can be dangerous, when someone is having a seizure you have to basically let them just have the seizure, you can't do much unless you have training and even then if it's literally the first time that having a seizure it's prety much 9 times out of ten you have to just wait till it ends. Many of the drugs used for anti-seizure are not great for your body so until you've had a proper diagnosis it's not like you can just pump them with magic siezure go bye bye juice, coz if you get the dosage wrong it can be really harmful.

Regarding the shitty music score for this movie, apparently the movie was premiered in Japan with a soundtrack by Mychael Danna, but this was "re-composed" by Brad Fiedel for the international release. God knows why - the original music is much better. You can get a taste of it in a youtube video called "Johnny Mnemonic - Deleted Scenes". They were definitely going for more of a Blade Runner vibe.

If I had a dollar for every instance of Keanu Reeves playing a character named Johnny in a cyberpunk setting, I would have two dollars, which is not a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

@@buragi5441 You're the one regurgitating a meme long after it stopped being funny because you're surprised about the single repetition of the most common male name in the English-speaking world. @buragi54412 жыл бұрын
@@kimifw58 Also, how common a name is has nothing to do with why I used the meme. It's the very specific combination of three different factors appearing for a second time. Who cares how common a name is. Keanu is only one. And Cyberpunk isn't used a lot in movies or AAA games. So again, you aren't very smart.

I don't know what it is but every part of this movie seems like it was meant purely on an aesthetic level. The story and shit is all really kind of bad, but it rules. I love how Keanu acts and I love the dolphin and I love Henry Rollins being better than Keanu. It's fire. Great film. I wish the internet looked like Johnny Mnemonic hacking.

Isn't the writer William Gibson, the literal creator of the cyberpunk genre? (Starting with his '84 novel Neuromancer) Now, sci-fi writers are not necessarily good "people" writers (just look at Asimov) and writers don't automatically make good screenwriters (cuz it's a whole different genre), but I feel like that info is worth more looking into.
