I wonder do you still do sparrings or fights, and if you do could you maybe film them and post them. I also think it would be really nice for you to make like an analysis type video in wich you re-watch some of the best boxing fights and explain what were the fighters mistakes and what should've they done different to turn the outcome of the match. I also love to see you ratting your fans boxing clips and i wish you made more of those videos...Keep up the good content lad!

I agree. It's nothing more than tactics, you did what you needed to do to win. This happens in every sport, you see it all the time in football (shutting up shop), especially in 2 leg away goals double situations. Mind you, coming from Sunderland you might not have seen a defence capable of doing that very often 🤣👍

In my opinion, run if you are only interested in winning but don't run too much if you are also interested in being an entertaining fighter to watch. People don't enjoy it that much, and boxing is supposed to also be entertaining since people pay to watch.

But I want to improve my footwork and so I tried this tutorial. I can tell you, it works, as well as the other footwork drills of Tony here on KZbin. Everyone who wants to improve footwork, try it! 16:16 There it is! I'm practicing mixed martial arts but I've been doing my own little training camp to get better boxing because my hands were always the worst aspect of my martial arts, I do good at both attacking and defending against kicks but it's because I'm using a traditional karate stance. Karate stance is that exact position Tony Jeffries is talking about. It's not bad by itself but it doesn't lend to good rotations and balance for one-two's and other traditional hand striking. I need to stay conscious about my footwork and how even seemingly insignificant changes in my feet positioning leads to drastically different outcomes. Thanks so much for all this free knowledge, Tony. We really do appreciate it. 👏

I consider your tactics fair. Boxing is a sport. In a sport we must use tactics and our brain first and foremost. So not engaging in order to get the best result for you is tactics. If your oponent has slow feet then using your feet as defense is a great tactic to tire him and make him frustrated. Whoever says that your defense and your strategy is cowardish needs to think again. For example, if I have an oponent who has great body shots and is taller than me , I need to play with my chin very low and using my body moves left and right to avoid the body shots and attack from the low with uppercuts and hooks, without using my cross and jab so much because I risk my game against a good body shot boxer. So this is a tactic. Also what you did is a tactic, fair, and you exploited your strength (fast feet) and your opponents weakness. Thanks for your impressive and detailed videos. I train myself using your videos, mainly for fitness purposes, and from every boxing youtuber you stand out for your athletic spirit, your kindness and knowledge and also for your badass British accent! Love you Tony! Keep it up!

Wonderful video bro. Can you make one with the same approach but a follow along version? It'll be easier to just watch and perform instead of pausing and pressing forward and backward every few seconds. You can make beginner and advanced versions. Just make em follow along. Also please add more moves to create angles.

This is great channel. I think that pushing the pace and a fighters pressure should be taken into account when scoring a fight. That would stop fighters from refusing to engage. It works in MMA.

I'm using this when i begin my training on Monday. I've made my own training routine... book essentially. I've merged my boxing routine with my basketball vertical jump training, found a way. Nothing is impossible as they say. It has EVERYTHING I need to enhance my training to a high degree. I'm new to boxing so, this should be interesting. I can punch, I have punched before lol. What I mean is I have not taken boxing that serious until now. Things change, what can I say. I'm a 20 year old hoping to be a great boxer someday, which I'm certain will be due to my hard work and dedicated mindset, always been that way. Just the way I am. I don't want anybody to wish me luck. I dont believe in "luck" anyway. I just want to show that it's never too late, and that anybody can be whom ever they ought to be IF they just stick to it. Simple as pie. Don't stop, EVEN when you had enough, because if you really loved the sport... you would NEVER have enough. Strive to win. I know I am. See you at the gym. 👊🏻

I do not think it is cowardly at all! You know, some fighters will be all about the engagement, others are tactical machines both intellectually and physically. *I 100% agree that fighters should use footwork to move away in the LAST round.* If a fighter is up 6 rounds to 0, and then runs for 6 rounds, I think that’s not okay. But if it’s the last 1-2 rounds then that’s fine.

Great ethical question, from a spectators point of view it's a bit boring and a little frustrating to watch but, if it was me and I can comment on what I would do and what I'd do is exactly the same as you, why risk it when you're ahead. With regards to your question, I think there is a balance. If you know you're up going into the final round, then I think its a valid tactic to switch to a more defensive style, however I dont mean running away, I think you should still be showing your skill, cause the fighter to miss shots, set up counter punches of your own, but avoid taking any big risks.

I don't think it's cowardly, it is a strategic skill, sadly its not always judged as so and doesn't always work to your advantage when it comes to scoring, I'm reminded of Dela Hoya vs Trinidad he out boxed him and danced for the last 3 rounds, thought he had the fight but lost, think if he'd engaged more in those rounds he'd of won. First defence in most MA is don't be there! Just discovered your vids, brilliant... Thank you

As a boxing coach on FMW team i agree with with what you did in the olympics. What young heads do not get is it is not about “being a man and get your brans bashed in. Footwork is crucial it is about hitting and not getting hit. Remember you got to be on your toes. You taught us a good drill. phase is a good technique. I think you should use the heavy bag i never thought about the cons of on your toes. Actually you want to mix it up, I noticed the good fighters do this well. sometimes be on your toes, other times flat footed is good. The con is you lose power but on your toes also gives you a speed advantage. If you are on your toes, you can phase in, phase our and do quicker. I agree on your toes takes energy. Your outside punches are good and you don’t have to worry about using head movement all the time and getting hit Would you say mix it up? Sometimes it is good to fight flat footed to conserve energy and get morn-power but other times it is about speed and footwork. I prefer footwork defense and on your toes but in the later rounds. I might utilize flat footed to conserve the energy. I saw your how ro punch faster. I admit you look good on yourself toes. , you did the same phase technique on that as well.

So your question hit home for me. I actually used this exact tactic in my first boxing match. I was positive I had the guy so I just stayed away from him in the final round and just tired him out. It worked like a charm. Of course I was wiped too from keeping the distance between us too long to engage. In the end the guy actually beat me. My recommendation, stay engaged. It's easy when your in there to be like yeah I'm doing it and I'm beating this guy while I'm doing it. But the judges may not see it your way. So do EVERYTHING possible to dictate the outcome. That the old proverb, never leave it in the judges hands? That's a real philosophy I fully believe in.

Fantastic Tony! Thank you so much. I'll teach my boxing partner your footwork drills tomorrow. If you'd ever be interested, I'd be forever grateful if you could teach how to punch with the pendulum step in different directions. I realize that this is more Soviet school (Bivol), but I like it so much.

Hi Mate. Yes once in the ring, the idea is to win. Not get needlessly hit,if you know your infront, it's only smart to out fox your man with footwork. Tim P S brilliant video

Love your videos, been looking for a local boxing gym but I guess I'm lacking confidence atm so I've been using your videos to improve at home. Keep up the good work ❤️

GO TO THE GYM, the first opponent you have to defeat in boxing is fear. Skill comes only with repetition and the influence of the ones around you pushing you to go above and beyond yourself, no one starts off great. Perseverance builds character!

Agree with waiting out the clock when you’re ahead. It’s a sport just like football or basketball.
