In relation to the dual-Pokémon/single-Pokémon episode question, I much prefer single episodes. The Nidoran double header was fine, but the separate videos for Nidoqueen and Nidoking are the way to go.

I think jrose has it right, the nidos were made to be basically identical and it makes sense to directly compare the small details and I think the mid evos could easily share a vid but the final evos are different enough in approach and moveset that they deserve their own videos

The problem with doing them separately is that whichever one goes second has an advantage. I don't think JRose would've taught Blizzard at the end if it wasn't for the Nidoking run for example. Anne - but doesn't learn any additional TMs because even Poliwhirl learns earthquake and submission. Poliwrath's additional fighting type gives it: additional resistances to bug, dark and rock... when you basically never meet rock and bug type moves and dark type moves don't exist. Not to mention you should be able to wash away any rock type move user anyways. A fighting STAB, a type useful against normal, rock, ice, steel and dark... of which two don't exist yet, one can be dealt with water moves, and ice is solely used by Lorelei, and the fighting type move it can use is submission, which is just horrible. It also gains 3 weaknesses, flying (which is ok aside from champ's pidgeot), fairy (doesn't exist yet) and... oof, Psychic. Ofc you have the usual suspects just softlocking themselves, but otherwise, being weak against the best type in the game always is crippling. Fighting type really simply isn't that good in gen 1, and the things Poliwrath gains seem rather small, and the things it loses seem brutal. @MotherBra1n2 жыл бұрын
why? Is it just because of Amensia?
@Gungho732 жыл бұрын
@@MotherBra1n The fighting type is a huge disadvantage in competitive gen 1 moveset wise, because fighting is often terrible but also because of Psychic types and those who can use the move psychic often being rediculously good before the special split. The benefit of a fighting type competitively would be against a Chansey or Tauros typically, or types like Rhydon. But the latter already gets smashed by Polwhirls water/ice based moves which are often better when paired with Amnesia. The former two both can learn thunderbolt and Chansey with physic prior to its special split is just a bad matchup. The boost in speed is not enough in gen 1, with crit chance included. to make up for this. Zapdos is also a matchup nightmare. It's less about the statistical difference, and more about what it "loses" by gaining them. In gen 2, there are still arguments to be made that Poliwhirl is in fact better compeititvely. I think "Freezai"? Was a KZbinr with a 2 minute video on the subject in you're interested in that as well. I'm sure Jrose will offer a great discussion on this as well!
@MotherBra1n2 жыл бұрын
@@Gungho73 that makes sense, especially competitively where electric, grass, and psychic would be super effective against Poliwrath with it's mediocre special. For a solo run however where the AI is awful, the AI hardly ever use any powerful super effective moves, I wonder if Poliwrath's stats would still make it faster. You see Poliwhirl won't learn Amnesia until level 41. Poliwrath starts with body slam and has a pretty good base attack. The biggest obstacle I see for Poliwrath that Poliwhirl can manage better would be Gyarados as Poliwhirl can badge boost which Poliwrath cannot (or just Amnesia then ice beam) but then Gyarados probably won't be able to do much to Poliwrath either, it has decent defense and should tank a hyper beam then finish it off with Body Slam. Poliwhirls best move until Mt. Moon is water gun (and we saw how big of an issue this was with starmie) until it gets mega punch (a move with less power than body slam and with a worse base attack). And whilst fighting types may be awful competitively they have a huge advantage in a solo run: Good AI makes Lance a complete joke. I mean Poliwhirl would probably sweep lance with a single amnesia but Lorelei's Dewgong could lower it's attack both with growl and aurora beam which might make slowbro, Jynx and Lapras kind of annoying. I could be wrong, I guess we'll wait and see but I feel certain that Poliwrath would outpace Poliwhirl until Poliwhirl learns Amnesia and that might be enough for it to win a solo race.

If you run some of the numbers, just the elite 4 is like a 1 in 1000+ chance of happening
@Laezar12 жыл бұрын
@@meiswaffle101 Yeah but there are many other things that could have happened that still result in a win, it still felt pretty lucky but also it was so close to being consistent that I feel slight optimization would evacuate most of those unfavorable ranges (might be wrong)
@RaphielShiraha642 жыл бұрын
@@Laezar1 Agreed even without the luck i can't see the elite four taking more than 5 attempts minimum, 10 attempts max, and that wouldn't change the in game time only the real life time.

I prefer the single episode runs! I know other channels do the double and I still watch them but I come to you for the style of video you do and I think your commentary style alone doesn't need the gimmick of doubling up! In the long run I'd rather you do what you prefer though as it is always quality viewing!

So since this was so close and Nidoqueen seemed to have a bit better luck and you played her a bit better as well (lessons learned from his run), I’m gonna call it a tie. 😆

Liked because, well I like all your vids but especially for the yaaaas Queen! Slay

theres a mew under the truck by the S.S. Anne, way better stats than Nidoqueen and Nidoking

Queen/Charles for the names continues proving your names are just as S-tier as these runs!
@thedragonadvances2 жыл бұрын
That was probably the luckiest run I've ever seen you do. I don't know if Nidoqueen should've actually ended up that high on the list to be honest. Also, Nidoking definitely got screwed by going first, the proteins were the wrong call for sure. Earthquake killed everything in one shot with Nidoqueen anyways
@elblogdelfeno2 жыл бұрын
Same special and Nidoqueen slower, but he ran the physical build with Nidoking. Nidoking probably still better.
@MadMalMan2 жыл бұрын
I think Nidoqueen is better by Jroses metrics, single playthrough whos fastest. Lots of times Nidoqueen nearly died but just held on where Nidoking couldn't. And if you watch Matts runs Nidoqueen interestingly was fastest in first run then Nidoking in the repeated optimised runs All this tells me Nidoking is the pokemon with the higher outright potential, but Nidoqueen is the easier pokemon to use as its more forgiving of mistakes.
@danielcarrilho52172 жыл бұрын
@@MadMalMan not really, Nidoqueen was saved by dumb AI move selection Alakazam and other psychics would have walled her otherwise

I like how you split it up! I like the longer episodes though but certainly I like how you split it all up!

Definitely a little unfair that you used your knowledge from the Nidoking run here. I can't imagine you teaching Blizzard to beat Eggy if that hadn't happened.

I prefer single videos. Keep it up JR! I'm enjoying the full month of vids :)

I don't liked the double video. I hope you separate the middle exceptions. It feels more like you committing time to show us one Pokemon. I think if you made a double episode it would feel more forced and a little more unorganized, if that makes sense

Come on dude. Nidoking used in all the world record speed runs instead of Nidoqueen for a reason.
@tinkerer33992 жыл бұрын
The reason it is used is because items can be used in battle.

It's almost like he addressed that and why that doesn't matter in this video AND the Nidoking one.
