well here are my thoughts on them. 1. Galaxy Quest is more of a paroady, but I can the see fun of analyzing something like that. 2. Haven't seen Mortal Engines but there's definitely a lot to pull apart with. 3. Haven't played infinite but I don't recall if a video game setting has been done yet so it would be interesting to see. 4. I feel Panem's got a lot flaws from their system to analyse. 5. Surpisingly I haven't seen Demo Man but do know of the weird nuances with the society in that setting. 6. Unfortunately I don't know a whole lot about Aeon Flux except for having a unique animation style.

Some autistic remarks to detail: In the 3rd movie, Vaako actually intended to send Riddick home but the bald dude got all butthurt about people suddenly making straightforward deals and went full betrayal on Vaako and Riddick. The whole 'whoever manages to scheme and stab his way to the top in the royal court is boss' scheme actually worked somewhat well for the Turks as it reliably produced leaders who could also scheme well against other nations. Only problem - the public got upset over the bodies of the less fortunate brothers and sisters of the royal family being dumped outside the castle *again*. The Necros have solved this PR problem - the movies show them to have some sort of machine to industrially brainwash the converts to loyalty, so the issue of being ideologically consistent and nice to the underlings is solved. This is probably the reason why their commanders can send axemen against guns just to see what happens. To their credit the Necromongers have also managed to understand their 'magic' in a scientific way and employ it on a wide scale in mass produced devices rather than keeping it the private pasttime of the select few (ie. Star Wars and The Force). tl;dr The Necromonger empire is the typical minmaxing RTS player who wants to paint the map in the minimal amount of turns and their way of going about it is consistent with the methods employed in say for example a Rome Total War speedrun.

The Necromongers actually make a lot more sense as a pre-Imperium Chaos corrupted faction of WH40K. The Necromonger Empire could have existed during the Age of Strife before the coming of the Emperor. The Underverse of the Necromongers could be their interpretation of the Warp. Their worship of death and decay could easily be attributed to influence by Nurgle. As well as some minor worship of the other Chaos Gods being present. For example, the Necros believe very heavily in a philosophy that says "you keep what you kill..." and consider it more honorable to use melee weapons, two signs of Khornite influence. Their worship of Slaanesh is also evident, as the Necromongers are opposed to bringing new life into the galaxy(Nurgle) but still indulging themselves in opulent pleasures, lust and excess. They also have a notable mastery of psychic abilities, utilizing them for communication as well as interrogations. As well as sorcerous powers, as the Lord Marshall displays a variety of supernatural abilities, all of these being a sign of Tzeentch influence. The entrance to the Underverse, known as the Threshold among the Necromongers, looks similar in appearance to the Eye of Terror in 40K. They would fit right into the WH40K setting without having to change really anything about them at all.

As stupid as the Necromongers are, I for one liked the world building that this movie made. It was very much like "Dune" to me (in a very dumbed down, but fun kind of way ^_^). Also, as I understand it, a lot of this world building had to do with Vin himself, who owns the rights to the character and wanted to expand on the background, being a lifelong sci-fi/fantasy nerd himself. As you point out, though, this movie did nothing at the box office, so they went back to the original formula for the 3rd movie, while throwing a scene in that still acknowledged the events of the 2nd, and how it could transition back to something so simple.
@5h0rgunn454 жыл бұрын
The problem with the third movie is that it's a carbon copy of the first. I still kinda liked it, but only because it had Johns' dad in it, and having played the game Butcher Bay, I like the dynamic between Riddick and Johns a lot, so it was cool seeing him with the elder one.

And the EU is a world political power yes but would Greece on its own have as much power? Or Zimbabwe? How about Argentina? My point was just because things are connected doesn't mean they are true players on a major level. And it doesn't really have to be 1 United force to be a civilization the EU or a form of it could be how they rule it even how the United states is multiple areas technically ruled as 1 though different levels of government
@fountainchristain4 жыл бұрын
@The Jim Reaper™ yes but that doesn't mean a civilization or empire couldn't rise to do it the EU is actually a great example all of the countries in it have different interests and cultures but still follow a guide line. Also no a civilization doesn't mean it is all following the same thing just it is governed from an area and has some cultural similarities. Like the United states or China or any area with large masses of people and different cultures in it. Show that you can govern even tho there are differences. You keep saying oh this or that but what about an empire that just conquers and spreads it own culture like Rome did who said they had to be peaceful or even do it diplomatically.
@barrygormley39864 жыл бұрын
A few counterpoints, just for fun: 1) Violent religious sects being based on doctrines that don't hold up to much scrutiny is hardly anything new, and the fact that The Lord Marshall literally has super-human powers probably helped convince a lot of people. 2) Since we don't know The Purifier's backstory, it's entirely possible that The Lord Marshal doesn't know he's a Furyan. 3) It's implied that very few necromongers are false converts (we only know about two: Kira and The Purifier), as they all go through a very powerful brainwashing process. 4) Vaako believes in the necromonger faith. He simply decided (under the manipulations of his wife: whose true beliefs are unknown) that he would make a better leader than the current Lord Marshal. 5) The Lord Marshal knew he could beat Riddick in a straight fight. The fear was that Riddick would kill him some other way, or that events would somehow play out in a way that would allow Riddick to defeat him (which is what happened). However, once he was confronted in the throne room: he basically had no choice but to fight, since to do otherwise would make him look weak in front of his whole army. 6) The whole “keep what you kill” thing might seem like a problem for The Lord Marshal, until you consider he has super-human powers that would make it damn near impossible for a regular person to defeat him. Even Riddick needed help. 7) Is there an actual (meaning cannon) piece of scripture stating that The Lord Marshal must be without fear, or is that simply something Vaako’s wife said to rationalise his betrayal? 8) The necromongers are a warrior culture who place a high premium on courage, skill and loyalty. A Lord Marshal who killed his predecessor through cowardly assassination instead of honourable combat would lose respect, and hence would have every incentive to cover it up.

I don't know if there is a canon (one 'n', not two) explanation for it, but it does make sense that this religion would hold to that type of belief. The Riddick franchise is one of my favourites. Riddick himself being one of my all time favourite character. The purifier process is what has to be in question; Maybe, it all depends on the "willpower" of the individual? I think it is. When the Neros invade, they over exert to show off their power in numbers, making it seem impossible to combat against. This alone would break the will of the majority of people and have the purifier convert their mind very easily, turning them into somewhat zombies that follow orders. You're right about some that are converted to stay alive and maybe have a little more willpower for personal survival to somewhat have some control over their own thoughts. Those that do have their own thoughts, no doubt wish to engage with the "keep what you kill" rule, but... Would you ever challenge someone who shows such supernatural abilities of killing you in an instant? This is what Zhylaw banked on heavily, which is why his head was always on a swivel. No one would out-right challenge him and he would also not hesitate to kill his own if they even displeased him. Fear, was his weapon. As for adding to his outfit, Zhylaw didn't care for the "drones" of his army. He would sacrifice hundreds or even thousands in his show of power. Which is why he would convert the conquered to *replenish the ranks*, as he said in the movie. He simply does not care for the drones that can be easily replaced. Vaako, did seem the most honourable of the army and wanted to be somewhat of the leader of reform. He just needed the chance but had to do the bidding of Zhylaw till his time came, whenever that was. In all, just like every other religion, there's always something to change, tweak, or totally reform, because nothing is perfect. I would love to discus ideas for a new Riddick story and even a Predator crossover story I have, if you ever want to do videos on movie ideas that could work and people would want to see. It's actually smart if you strip away all morality. She was a psycho for condemning so many innocents.

I know that the Necromongers were a hard turn in the franchise, and it was understandable that they wanted to go back to the roots in the third movie. But I am still a little disappointed that they didn't continue the story of Riddick being the Lord Marshall properly. I would have been actually very curious about how an empire of religious purging zealots would have turned out under the rule of a non-believing chaotic outlaw. The possibilities man! -Maybe Riddick does visit the Underverse and is partly convinced that it is a good thing and he struggles internally if he should follow through on Necromonger ideology or remain true to himself. -Maybe Riddick tries to turn the Necromongers into a force of good only to see it all go to waste when he realizes that they simply can never be. -Maybe an even bigger threat appears and Riddick has to lead this army into the field against a galactic scale catastrophe. -Maybe he finds out that the Underverse IS real and the Necromonger religion is correct but was simply perverted and tries to fix it going against the old anti-reformists. And Vaako is unsure if he should follow Riddick or the anti-reformists. -Maybe whateverhisname returns from the Underverse with an undead army and hunts Riddick. What do you think?

7:30 empires arming their troops with melee weapons against firearms is not unheard of, this was standard during WW1 when there weren't enough guns to go around and many people lacked firearm experience. in addition necromonger armor seems to take ranged weapon fire very well. it's possible that new troops are given this role to instill aggression much like bayonet training in the marine corps.

They had a legit strategy a crew of men and one Signalist, take it into the middle of the enemy army and activate the signal, teleporters homing in a whole army around the main army or defense rendering cover or retreat mute, I mean if I had the technology and fearless soldiers I would have the same strategy to save more lives by sacrificing a few. The can replenish their ranks so easy by converting atleast half the planet so I mean why not.

Starfleet security is the WORST. Their ships are constantly boarded, captured, crippled, destroyed or straight-up hijacked. They allow officers and crew to return to duty after being compromised... as in assimilated or brainwashed by alien technology. I've never seen any defenses around earth other than three puny ships in Enterprise. They only send a single ship on most missions. No support or escort ships are assigned when they must venture into a situation that is known in advance to be dangerous or at least dodgy. They let their two most highly-advanced starships - the USS Voyager and the highly classified USS Prometheus - get lost and or hijacked on their maiden missions. Their policy of refusing to make warships while surrounded by several hostile, militant alien territories is reckless and they should have been overwhelmed long ago. Their technology is shoddy. The tech that someone needs the most in a crisis situation will inevitably fail them or will not work in random places and environments. The most important example of this is the HUGE liability of Geordi's VISOR. It was hacked in order to facilitate an assassination (which failed.) Apparently he didn't upgrade the VISOR's cyber security - or construct a better one - because it happened a second time... only this time it was the direct cause for the total destruction of the USS Enterprise, Starfleet's flagship. Despite a clearly HUGE armada as seen in DS9, when there's an emergency, the Enterprise seems to be the only ship in range. I could go on but even though I LOVE Star Trek, Starfleet (and without their protection,) the entire Federation is too stupid to exist.
@NimhLabs4 жыл бұрын
With the "surrounded by militant alien territories" I think they are attempting to play the Belgium Card... where if any of those alien factions invade Federation Space, it would justify the OTHER Alien Factions to attack the invading one. Knowing humans, they are just trying to EGG on those other militant aliens by looking extra invadible, which would be a mistake to attempt Also, like Belgium, the Federation is fucking CRAZY as frick... there are plenty of posts about "Humans Are Space Orks" posts out there, but I enjoy this one [ imgur.com/gallery/qSmHy ]... so there is a chance that those Militant Alien races just know better than to try to fuck with the cray cray Aliens Fucking Belgiums... you don't fuck with them... because then you have to deal with fucking Belgiums

It's interesting. Even though I agree with most of the points made here I still really like all 3 of these films. They aren't perfect it's true but there are a lot of things to like about them. Maybe it's the setting,maybe it's the well done action or the soundtracks, maybe it's the fact that Vin Diesel does have a certain charm to him which helps Riddick as a character in much the same way that Keanu Reeves helps with John Wick. Maybe it's the Dune inspired set designs. At least these films feel a little different than many other action movies now. Whatever it is I hope they make the 4th one they have been talking about.
